We've released three new themes!

Screenshots (http://synthesize.us/Maemo_themes)

Install Kobayashi (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/raw/OS2008/kobayashi/?get_installfile)
Install Tritanium (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/raw/OS2008/tritanium/?get_installfile)
Install Meta (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/raw/OS2008/meta/?get_installfile)

With this release, we've moved all of our packages (including LCARS themes) into the extras repository. Finally, there are some actual Maemo themes under the 'Themes' category in the Application Manager. :) Feedback is welcome. Enjoy!

Hmm, no promises there... Kinda busy right now :/

Since this thread is about new themes, Qurgh's Klingon (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/klingonpadd) version of the Okuda (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/okuda/) theme is worth mentioning. (Screenshots here (http://synthesize.us/User:Qurgh).) His extras package (which contains startup graphics) is incompatible with our new themes, but that'll hopefully be resolved soon, and in the meantime the theme itself works fine.

Im going to make a personal menu icon...sometime today when i get a chance.... for which theme do you want it for? Im going to make some for kobayashi first. Can anyone help me on matching the backgraound color of the yellownotes applet to the background on the kobayashi theme perfectly? Theres no "dropper" color selector, anyone know if theres a file or something to edit in gconf that can change the color?

Looks great! I can imagine it tooks many days to put this together. I have tried making a Maemo theme myself a few times but I found the process too tedious. Making a 'regular' desktop gtk theme is much easier.

Yeah, it certainly is time consuming, and some parts do get tedious. But all in all I enjoy doing it, especially when people seem to appreciate my efforts.

These latest themes took less time than LCARS or Okuda, since I had my earlier work as a starting point. All my theme templates are SVG files, which makes them easy to modify.

If anyone's interested, the way I did the templates for these new themes actually makes it easier than ever to create different color schemes, since they're essentially two-tone themes. For example, Kobayashi's background color is #bbcca8, and all the UI elements are black (#000000), with different opacities for different parts. You can just use a text editor to instantly search and replace every occurrence of those two color values in the SVG template, export it as a png, and rebuild the package. (Icons are all in their own SVG template, so they're just as easy to edit.)

Glad you guys like the themes!

After playing with themes my left menu icons disappeared - I see only labels as Web, Comm and Menu. How can I recover them back? I tried to switch to my old themes, reboot a device but nothing helped.
Thanks.

LATER: fixed it by (I believe) updating icon cache and rebooting. Found an answer somewhere in this forum.

The font is called UFP, and it gets installed in /usr/share/fonts/ by the Okuda theme.

Our source packages are here (http://repository.maemo.org/extras/pool/diablo/free/source/h/), but we built our themes using hildon-theme-tools, and I'm not sure what it would take to get Theme Maker to work with our custom layout. Our themes also include many more icons than Theme Maker currently covers.

You could ask Urho Konttori (who makes Theme Maker) about the possibilities, but honestly, I think hildon-theme-tools is your best bet if you want to modify our themes. All you need is Ubuntu (or another Debian-compatible Linux distro). We have a HowTo (http://synthesize.us/LCARS_PADD/HOWTO_modify_these_hildon_themes) page, and Leif and I would be happy to help if you need us.

The icon themes do require a full reboot (or "killall hildon-desktop" in the terminal) to switch properly (Maemo bug 3659 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3659)) but you shouldn't have to update your icon cache; our themes do that during install and removal, but it shouldn't be necessary when switching themes. Is it possible that you did a soft reboot (was the power cord plugged in)? If you don't see a progress bar during startup, it's not a full reboot, and that could be why the icons weren't reloaded.

Now I see how it works. After selecting one of your themes Web and Menu icons changed to words, but Comm icon was still there until I rebooted. After reboot everythings looked good. Same if I am going back to Titan theme- two icons get changed right away, but the middle one (comm) changed only after reboot.
Another qustion- how can I set bk color? Looks like theme does not set it by itself and I could not figure out hot to set it to exact color .
Thanks.

I assume you mean the background color on the wallpaper/sidebar? Each theme comes with three background images, which are listed in the 'Set background image' dialog. One of those is the theme's default background color. If you want the sidebar drop shadows (as seen in some of the screenshots), select the background image labeled 'transparent sidebar' and then set the background color to whatever you want.

Silly me:( There are indeed bk images, not colors.

Hi! Beautiful themes!
I think I am missing something in the install - the top panel icons did not change... How do I get the icons shown on the picture?

reboot tablet or kill hildon-desktop...

I love all of these but especially Okuda. The only negative thing that I have to say is about the way Application manager displays. All of the applications are black on black unless individually hi-lighted.

I have solved this by installing the application manager modification, but it is a shame that I had to.

Hope that doesn't sound to negative because I really do appreciate and love the work that you guys are doing.

heh, meta plays nice with the mostly white icons of the "tray".

but it seems it got issues with modest. the second line of text pr mail is permanently black.

i also discovered that webkit, unlike microb, uses the colors of the theme as background for the input boxes on webpages, but keeps the text color (gray/black on dark blue anyone?)...

another one, the feeds sidebar in the rss reader seems to stay black...

Good news, that was Maemo bug 3503 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3503) (fixed in the 5.2008.43-7 release). No need for the modded app manager, just update your OS.

I'm not sure what you mean, can you clarify?

Yes, hardcoded text colors on theme-defined backgrounds are troublesome, and all one can really do is file bugs on the apps that do this. The RSS reader issue is Maemo bug 3678 (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3678) (already on our known issues (http://synthesize.us/LCARS_PADD#Known_issues) list). In the case of webkit, maybe we can come up with a CSS hack to make text fields use black text on a white bg, regardless of the theme, like we do for MicroB.

whhen modest lists the mails in a dir, it uses two lines pr mail.

first line shows the topic, the other shows senders address, and date.

that second line stays gray/black no matter the background color...

We just pushed a minor update to all themes (http://synthesize.us/Maemo_themes). The color-picker palette now includes the theme background/text colors.

Well, I had a problem with the default theme. I've installed a new theme and the third default theme just disappeared. :( It was a black one and I think "Stitch" from Lilo and Stitch was the monster presented there. Does anyone know what is that theme name and how can I get it again? Thanks!

Hi,

I love the the themes posted here. Is there any chance we can see a beautiful theme from the movie Tron Legacy? I assume it would look very similar to the Okuda theme but with the Black and glowing Teal graphics :D

Hoping to see that work of art in progress here at maemo.
