Just for curiosity, will the N900 be able to sync with outlook or you have to have evolution since it is linux based phone?

Also, does anybody know if Garmin Tx mobile will be able to work with it just like it did with N95.

Thanks

Oh maaaan,

I wish, at least from time to time, somebody actually RTFM and docs. Then you'll know that n900 is not symbian it's linux like the n800 and n810 and using the search button of this forum you'll know the answer to your questions.

Please ask Garmin if XT is supported on the n900 and ask them to support the n900 if it's not.

Hmm, where's the un-thanks button? I think the original poster is aware that the N900 is Linux-based, as mentioned in their post. And what's wrong with asking a forum if device X is compatible?

I know it is a Linux based but does that mean you'd have to have a Linux base system in order to sync with other applications? Can you download the applications from maemo.org without the need of having a Linux system? To sum, I just want to know if the phone is made exclusively for those with linux system.

Thanks

As far as I know, the PC-based software than the N900 will link with, Ovi Suite, is Windows-only. So actually, Linux desktop users are at a bit of a disadvantage, strangely.

I don't really know what Ovi Suite does, though! Can anyone explain it? Can anyone answer x61's specific question about Outlook syncing?

if by outlook sync you refer to the calendar, then at least one workaround has been suggested, involving google as a third party (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=306853&postcount=7).

according to maemo.nokia.com, it will also be possible to sync to an exchange server (http://maemo.nokia.com/features/email/).

on a general note, i wouldn't say that the n900 is made exclusively for those with linux system. but the more specific you can be, the better. and may i also promote the habit of searching on this forum, there is a lot of information here. typing in some keywords and then searching for specific keywords within a thread is often a winning combination.

N900 has Mail for Exchange, as such it should work and sync just like any other Nokia Mail for exchange device (at least over the air).
so thats Mail, Calendar, Todo, and Contacts for Outlook users

Since it will be able to sync with Exchange you can also sync ist with Google. They just added ActiveSync to Google Mail (and a while ago Contacts and Calendar).

I really need to be able to sync my Google calender. I don't care much for contacts and mail as I know there are other workarounds for that but I definately need the google calender to be able to sync.

Also garmin would be nice, but at least we got nokia maps :)
