Hey everyone. If any of you live in NYC and want to see the N900 you can now go to the Nokia store on 57th ST in NYC since they now have the device on display again :D.

I would describe my experience in detail but I don't think explicit language is allowed on this forum...:o

The only thing I will say is that the keyboard WILL take some getting used to. Everything else seems to either be there or if it's not there we know it will come later on, specifically auto rotate and portrait mode. Correct me if I'm wrong btw.

I hope it was good explicit language, and not cursing....;)

If u used it for 50 minutes, did u notice any large drop in battery power? Or it getting very hot?

Well it was plugged in so I can't tell you. I was very curious about batter power tho. I did however notice the battery area got warm but for a plugged in/charging device that's normal.

I have an E90 and the keyboard on the n900 is noticeably smaller. The space bar, as already known, is not int he standard place. After about 15 minutes however i was typing normally. BUT since I had an E90 right next to it the keyboard was still noticeably smaller.

Yes it was smaller...actually the perfect size for a "phone"

They layout of the keyboard should not be as much of a problem for me as it may be to a communicator user, as I am currently using a blackberry bold

What I am also interested in about the keyboard is how responsive it is. Do you get a nice click feel when you press a key?

The bolds keyboard is really very good and very responsive. This is what I am looking for in the N900

You don't get a click for each key press. I would say it's similar to the E90's keyboard feedback, just smaller...If you can picture that then you should know how it feels.

Hi!!! I don't have an E90 nor have I ever had one, or seen one for that matter here. So.... Is there good travel on the keyboard? Or does it barely move like the N97's?

lefteyecc

There is feedback on a key press. So you will feel like the button has been pressed. I haven't spent much time with the N97 but the spacing of it's keys, to me, are more comfortable than the n900, also consider that I do have rather big hands...

Oh what? I thought it was being released in the US before Europe. Does that mean that the N900 will not be released later on this month, here in the UK, as I heard they were a few weeks ago?

Yay for Nokia who even confuses the people who work for them. I think I'll trust this email since it's closer to the "heart"

I certainly hope with the manual released as well as it being listed on OVI--at Nokia's up and coming tech show or w/e it is, they release it their.

The fact that NYC is allowing demos again (it was locked away last week) might be a good sign (final firmware?)

lefteyecc
2009-10-03, 14:37
Well when I asked the rep what firmware it was running he said it was the latest, but he did mention that the firmware is constantly being updated with changes so even that firmware may be a little outdated.

As for the release date I am just riding the wave right now...it's pretty clear that even Nokia themselves do not know when they're releasing this device.

Stopped by the store earlier and had a little demo myself. All I can say is that I'm very happy I pre-ordered the device, putting that aside, I'm really depressed it's not in my hands anymore :(

went to the nyc store today. they had just performed an upgrade to the software. i don't have a lot to add except that i didn't find any bugs.

i liked the software more than the hardware. i hope it'll be backported to the n810. i thought the screen was too small and got smudgy too easy. It was more responsive to the finger than to the stylus, which was a pleasant surprise.

I didn't like the keyboard either, but then again i'm spoilt by my n810.

Ahhh I see I'm not the only one who found the keyboard quirky...btw the small screen is an acceptable trade off.

Yes as I remember the n97 manual released around May 30, the the n97s starting shipping like June 20th. So we will see if there is a pattern. Since the n900 manual was out like October 1, then perhaps October 20th the UPS guys will bring us our toys.

Can someone check the OS version of this NY device? It's somewhere in Settings, About Product. And I think a lot of people are waiting for the dmesg output after boot.
