I'm very new to Maemo and will be getting an N900 when it comes out.

Is there somewhere I can read all there is to know about Meamo? Such as installing widgets and apps, and everything else. Also I read about a thing called pidgin, what is this and how do I use it?

Can't wait for the N900! :D

Well, there was for the old Maemo used in the N800/N810. Tablet School (http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/), thanks to hard work by Krisse. Note also the tutorials by category (http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/2008/01/contents-page.html).

To search this forum, use my Newbie link below. You'll find info on Pidgin, and lots else.

For the N900 and Maemo 5, I don't know what there is. Some of the old will carry over, some won't.

maemo.nokia.com (http://maemo.nokia.com/) is probably the place you want. Expect more content once the N900 is actually released.

Don't worry about Pidgin, there are plugins available for the built-in client that will give you support for nearly any IM protocol you need.

Now that question is broad. :-D Maybe the Wikipedia article is a good start? Stuff that can be installed will be available in the internal Application manager, if it has been uploaded to the official repositories.
Device-wise speaking it seems that the official N900 manual by Nokia is already available on their webpage.

Pidgin is a third-party app that provides multi-protocol instant messaging, see http://pidgin.im or the Wikipedia article.

You could also check the N900 manual, linked via http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32333, which will give some general advice about how to add widgets and apps.
