Amazon does price match??? I still would rather order from amazon though, no restocking fee, and plus I bought a few things from buy.com and tried to return it because it didnt work and they never reply to my email for an RMA.

Laughing Man
2009-10-06, 02:29
Amazon doesn't price match in the sense that if you tell them that X is selling it for this price then they will lower. So I'm sorry about misleading you.

But they unofficially price match (usually often for videogames) when a major store like Walmart or whomever that they regard as competition is selling it cheaper then they are. You can't get them to do it though, it's more a response to X retailer lowering their price and Amazon matching it because they rather people buy it from them than X retailer.

Well you order from Nokia I would suggest a couple of possible advantages

1) First round shipping
2) 1 Year extra support for 20 bucks
3) Magic unicorn .....

Ok #3 maybe not.

the way they are discounting this phone before its release, I can't wait to see the pricing after Christmas! Sub-500 most likely, hopefully sub 450 if we are lucky!

Hmm could you buy the 1 yr extra support from Nokia if you bought it from a 3rd party retailer?

I emailed Amazon to ask if they'll either lower the price so it's the same as buy.come or if they'll price match. I know they probably won't price match, but with the amount of business I've done with them it doesn't hurt to ask.

I purchased the extra three year warranty through Amazon for $49.99, so purchasing the phone through Buy would save me $20 ( yes, you can use the warranty purchased through Amazon because it's a third party entity and not operated by Amazon) which would offset that extra warranty cost.

As much as I like Amazon, $20 is still $20.

What does the Nokia warranty do? Will a third party "Extended Warranty" be just as good, and does Buy.com offer one (I can't see that just by adding the phone to a shopping cart)?

I went ahead and canceled with Amazon and ordered with Buy. I used the promotional coupon, along with a $25 dollar voucher I had from using my Paypal credit card, to bring the grand total to $530 with 2 day shipping.

Buy.com does have a warranty, when you're looking at the N900 pagge, underneath the price it says 'SquareTrade 2 Year Warranty $80'...LMAO $80 for two years through the same company that offers the three year, $49.99 through Amazon

Hmm...get the Buy.com credit card and get an additional $30 off. First bill comes, pay it off, cancel the card. No annual fees or anything. $524.49 after $10 coupon+$30 off new account and that includes two day shipping.

$524.99 + $49.99 extra warranty from Amazon. $575.97....awfully tempting.

Buy.com is an official vendor. Nokia must honor any purchase of their phone as long as you bought it with the package fully sealed and can verify the purchase date with a receipt from the vendor you bought it from.

Will the Nokia warranty be honored if purchased through Buy.com as it is with Amazon?

You have to use a Package Forwarding company.

You sign up with the Package Forwarder and they give you a US Address to use on your order at Buy.com or Amazon.

Buy.com/Amazon ship your N900 to that US Address and then the Package Forwarder does the international shipping to get it to you.

The prices at buy.com are great but if for any reason you have to return the N900 get ready for DRAMA! I have tried to return a faulty E71 once and a monitor with pressure damage once. The monitor managed to be replaced after about a week of back and forth. The E71 turned into a month long saga involving managers and threats before I got a refund for the faulty phone. Needless to say I will never do business with them again.

I am familiar with a few mail forwarders but not sure which to use. I am only looking to use it once as I only want to buy this item.

A site called Price USA offered me about 650 all up with shipping. Which is about $90 more than what someone in the US would pay.
Are there any better deals out there in terms of mail forwarding?

I'm using Bongo International. Int'l Shipping should be about US$40 plus, for a one off shipment, they charge US$8.50 so you are looking at about US$50 on top of whatever price you pay for the N900 and local US shipping.

Without a doubt, after probably 25 Amazon purchases and zero problems versus 3 buy.com purchases and 2 problems (never a problem with delivery, they are very fast actually), I'll leave my money over at Amazon and eat the $20 for peace of mind.

On another note, I was browsing UK cell company sites and WTF??? I wish our damn cell providers here offered us free Nintendo Wii's, Sony 12 megapixel cameras, GPS units as well as getting free phones... :( :(

That's ok. Unless it is DOA, I can't imagine I would ever be bothered with trying to make a warranty claim in the USA for a AUD$700 device. Wouldn't be worth the time, hassle, shipping costs etc.

Buying, in effect, without a warranty is part of the price of wanting to be bleeding edge here Down Under.

Does anyone know if you can take a "Dead on arrival/Faulty" unit to Nokia Flagship store and have them to ship it back to Nokia for you? You'd hope that Nokia would send a new unit instead of trying to repair it and probably easier than dealing with buy.com
