A very odd question that was asked of me, and I couldn't answer this question at all... searching has yielded nothing thus far either.

Do you know if Maemo5/N900 will have a method to see how much data you've used per month or session? I might be missing something via the commandline, but any answers will be welcomed.

How do you check data usage on the N900?

Sorry for starting a thread on this. I know the answer is very simple because I have bumped into it like 5 times in the past. But as is typical now that I need to actually use it I just can't find it despite searching for it over and over.

Going abroad next week and mobile phone company does 10mb data usage whilst roaming for £20. So need to check to make sure I don't go over 10mb. Also want to check my usage between now and my trip to see if 10mb is enough. Come to think of it that is ridiculously little isn't it?

Settings > Phone > View Data Counter (or something like that depending on your locale package)

That makes around 1, 1.5 MB per day. It's very little, but if you use it only when you must, and stick to mobile versions of the websites, maybe it could work.

Also don't forget that unless you have manually loaded the GPS files for your area, they will be downloaded from the server as well, and those files take up quite a lot of space.

Download the GPS files from here:
http://www.maemopeople.org/index.php/jaffa/2009/10/13/downloading_ovi_maps_without_a_network_c

and also avoid using any sattelite view on GPS as those are downloaded always afaik.

Oh lol I fell for that not knowing the phone settings section scrolls. Can't believe I could fall for that again.

You can also install the personal data counter widget onto your desktop:

I believe the package is available in extras.

Thanks. Will take a look. Do both sent and received data count towards the permitted data allowance?

I don't see the data counter. I actually installed the data counter widget works great. I am just trying to reset the data counter usage.

That's always been my experience, when roaming on U.S. T-mobile in UK.
