My Sony ericsson bluetooh doesn't seem to work too good with the N900 (disconnects, cuts off after 5mins of call use).

I want a Nokia one, but when I click into the Nokia store and select a bluetooh it only comes up with the very expensive BH-804

http://shop.nokia.co.uk/nokia-uk/product.aspx?sku=5096140&culture=en-GB

Is there a bluetooth headset that works with the N900 but doesn't cost the earth?

I have a Nokia BH-214 and am happy with it. You should also consider the BH-103. From a chat with a friend who also has an N900:

Me [12:29]:
You mentioned a stereo bluetooth headset at a decent price a couple of days back...
Him [12:30]:
yes, it's a BH-103
http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/accessories/all-accessories/headsets/bluetooth-headsets/nokia-bluetooth-stereo-headset-bh-103
still very pleased with it - leave it on all day on standby, works well switching between calls music
‎‎Me [12:31]:
Cool.
‎‎Him [12:31]:
haven't really pushed the battery yet, but supposed to give 150hrs stdby, 6 hours music

I'd still pick the BH-214, as you can unplug the included earphones and hook plug the 214's little control pod onto your computer speakers or stereo. It's a nice way to listen to music.

FYI: BH-905 works really well with the N900. Only issue is that it seems that the bluetooth stack is quite buggy. The BT stream gets out of sync every now and then, so playing a tune can sometime result in either a tad fast or a tad slow.
Using it with the 5800 its has no issues... Sound quality that is.

All in all 905 is is a great pair of cans.

plus it makes for a nice remote for your N900 media player when you are using the FM transmitter in your car

What i really mean is a bluetooh headset for taking calls. Not for listening to music.

I have the BH-804, 904 AND 905. The 804 is a very beautifull and elegant solution, but the 905 is the real performer.

The 905 sounds very good, but not practical for everyday use.

BH-804 or 904 are verrry good.

I'm currently using my Platronics Discovery 925 with my N900 and it works great with it.

My only current quirk with it would be that it can be a bit uncomfortable in my ear for extended periods of time.

I can't decide between the BH-804 with the docking station or the BH-904 which has two mics and much better battery life.

Can you comment??

The BH-904 sounds louder, works farther away from the device, has VERY long battery life.

The BH-804 is sexy, just a piece of art and sounds very nice. Feels much more comfy compared to the 904.
But the battery life is shorter, much shorter than 904 and performance is less.

I simply can't choose. But if you must have only 1, take the 904, but I have seen the 804 at $56, making it possible to get both.

I have a BH-103 and it works fine except that it insists on beeping when I receive a call for about two seconds making it so that I have to wait for the beeping (four or five beeps) to stop before I start to talk. The people calling are disconcerted by the lag time as well. Has anyone else had that problem. If so, is there a solution?

Other than that they work fine (much more reliable than the HBH-IS800s which are cooler but as the opening post said they randomly disconnect sometimes in the middle of being used).

Do the folks using the BH-904s have the problem I describe?

Thanks,
Fred

I just got the Jawbone Icon for the N900 and so far it is great. Very small, reasonable battery life. Much better than my previous Motorola bluetooth headset. One thing I didn't like about the Motorola was that the maximum volume level wasn't high enough. The Icon is working fine.

@jsuggs and jjg:

I have an Icon a Prime and a Jawbone 2 and am having problems with all of them. They are very choopy and stutteing in the audio. The icon is a little different than the Prime and 2.

I would really like for the Jawbones to work.

I have a Blueant Q1 and it is working great, just not great battery life.

+1 for the Plantronics Voyager Pro. Love it - comfortable and callers come in clear on both ends. Great accessory.

This problem is solved in PR1.2.
Now I use BH-214 - definitely better choice.

Since I am also looking for a wireless headset, the BH-904 cought my eye too. But I am wondering about the additional power consumption. At the moment bluetooth is always disabled on my device. Does anyboday know how large the additional battery drain will be when the N900 is always connected via BT to the headset?

i got a BH-104 work like a charm. Very cheap and very affordable. Anything with bluetooth 2.1 will work perfectly.

$29NZD for bh-104 and $39.99 for bh-105.

Not much drainage at all with bluetooth 2.1 headset. I left it on all day IDLE but don't really notice anything. But i listen to music for 4hours through bh-104 and it's like listen with the headphone on N900.

The bluetooth (v2.1with A2DP) protocol that the N900 supports, does have a low power consumtion mode. The power drain when your bt headset is in standby should be minimum. Once you start talking on it, well thats when power consumption goes up, probably even more if you transfer large files, or are listening to music using bluetooth stereo headsets.

If you are looking for a bargain on a stereo BT headset, this would be it:

Nokia BH-503 for $33 delivered:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30407~r.60561251

For some reason the seller has obscured the brand name, but read the comments.
I have the older BH-501, which has excellent sound, but lacks music control buttons, and the folding arms are prone to breaking.

I'm using BH-501 and it's working Just Fine [TM]. No surprises, call quality is OK, buttons work etc. The only "issue" is the music quality; I like to enjoy my sound with a good quality, so I usually plug in my Sennheiser HD 228 headphones and use the built-in mics, but when in car or bicycle I wear the BH-501.

Boy was it expensive, but it's just brilliant in a car, because hearing the conversation with both ears just makes it easier to listen to. Without blowing your ear drums with sheer volume...

Has anyone used the Voyager Pro, BH-904, and Jawbone Icon?
The 1st two have similar qualities I know, but I also like qualities of the Icon.
Can anyone speak from experience having used at least two of these?

My thread....
Which of these is the best monoaural BT headset? (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=791391#post791391)

I have a set of BH-905 and they won't work correctly with Maemo (and some android devices) If whilst listening to music I receive a call, when I end the call or the other end hangs up, rather than jumping back in to the music player the head phones actually hard lock up..

You have to press three buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or so to reset the head phones..

It appears to be a bug in the headphones. They appear to be sensative to linux bluetooth stuff.. this might be a bug in linux bluetooth... but a) seriously? and b) the headphones shouldn't crash when dealing with a bugging bluetooth implementation..

So... they're wildly expensive, the buttons are not supported on the N900 when using cabled mode (the 905 can be wired or bluetooth!) and they hard lock up when calls end..

Other users report the same problem and the common solution is "reboot the headphones"... not really a solution in my books, but there you go

very disappointed as on paper, the BH-905 / N900 should be awesome.. :(

(they work really well with Symbian phones though.. designed for symbian rather than designed for bluetooth I suspect)

It's well documented why corded don't work well with n900, BT is a different story in most instances.
But what does this have to do with recommending BT headsets? Are you warning users about the 905?

cpitchford
2010-08-26, 13:08
yes, I would warn an N900 user away from using BH-905s.. There are problem using them wired (the button issue that as you've said is well documented) and wirelessly (they lock up)

With other Nokia handsets, however.. they're pretty good.

Yep, also use the Motorola S9 HD with no issues.
Good when jogging and don't make you look like you have donuts on your ears.
