I thought i heard somewhere you could charge the n900 using the old nokia chargers through the audio out? Dont want to break anything by plugging it in if this is not the case though.

Cheers

who gave you that idea?
of course you can't use the audio port for charging...

It sounded too crazy to be true, but i remembered people talking about using the old chargers with the n900 and the charger fits perfectly into the audio port!

Anyway, thanks SubCore

They probably use the charger adapter to usb which was in the package. I would not suggest to put the charger into the audio jack ;)

Haha, that won't work, that would require the audio-jack to have a pin in the middle... And it doesn't...

Best case: Won't work
Worst case: Will fry your audio chip

Errrm Audio plug is 3.5 male connector to female reciever of N900

Nokia charger is a female connector well kind of...

This sound quite absurd. I wouldnt wanna connect my headphone if this was the case in fear of small shocks

i think you might be referring to the 2.5mm and 3.5mm power pins to microusb adapter that some n900's came with.

maybe got confused with the lengths as they also have 2.5mm and 3.5mm for audio.

Ha! Don't. Trust me, even if it were to be wired that way, there's no chance the audio can handle the current needed to charge the phone - it draws over an amp.

Do you smell that?

Maybe you should try it out and tell us what happens :D:D

To extend a bit on this: N900 sold in the US don't have the adapter included in the package, whereas in other country it does (at least that was what was observed in another thread). The rationale behind this:Nokia's marketshare in the US is smaller than in Europe, so it's less likely that potential N900 customer already have a Nokia charger onto which put the adapter on.
