I'll start. I like to use vocal trance songs as ringtones, especially ones that begins with vocals.

From the days of the oldest nokia communicators they could play arbitrary downloaded wavs. Something rare on phones od the day. I tended to copy ringtones from phone to phone as I upgraded. On the 9500 I liked the built in snapdragon.aac. Incdluding on the 9300 and copied it to the e90. But others started using it and so to tell my phone apart; I switched to Nuance.aac on my e90. I then found it didn't come on the N900 so I copied it from my N97* and still use it. Oh and the sms Message3.aac coped too.

* I had to write a quick python line to read it in from Z: and write to copyoffable memory as I didn't have a uk sim and so my wifi would't work on ch13. I only had python installed no 3rd party filemanagers!

I do get a lot of texts, and they're less urgent. They are signalled by a little bit of drifty celtic music.

And my alarm starts gently with birdsong increasing in volume till I'm fully awake.

Not sure I've ever heard Attraction, but I'll take your word for it ;)

I just like how simple yet effective it is; you can hear it really easily in all kinds of environments, yet it tends not to disturb anyone who's not listening for it.. I've had it go off in meetings and presentations quite a few times without anyone even batting an eye.

I was actually quite surprised to discover the N900 didn't support MIDI ringtones, but I suppose there's not much *ahem* call for them these days..

For Ringtones i mostly use songs which have great guitar intros or solos. Im varying often between Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, The Who and stuff. My current one is Walk of Life by Dire Straits.

As for SMS tone i have an 5 or 6 secs clip of breaking glass :D .
Love to see the reactions of people when riding on the bus und suddenly they hear a window or a bottle breaking.

For Email notif. i didn't know what to pick but i didn't want to use the default either so i now i enjoy the sound of Super Mario Bros. Theme.

I have never liked such ringtones that usually come with a phone.

Why go with half-measures :p ? Go with classic grindcore instead. In fact, Napalm Death's seminal album "Scum" has pieces short enough for both ringtones and message notifications!

This reminds me of being on a train once, sat in a quiet carriage where phones/ipods etc are banned. A guy had a similar ringtone and his phone went off - it was in his coat, folded up on the luggage rack.

It was one of those ones that got louder the longer you left it, and by the time he got his phone out to switch it off, he was VERY embarrased indeed! :D

I hate "Ringtones" and any products associated with them. They have good aspects though, like it is easy to spot m0r0ns when they have Shakira or 50Cent set up as Ringtone, but in general it is just annoying to be confronted with all the Lookatme!-squeakage. There is a hint in it, showing that music became noise, but thats a whole different story. My N900's call alert is called "Low". Pretty boring and generic i guess, but its a call alert. If i wanna listen to music, i listen to music (although noise works better as ringtone).

i had to take it out of the memory of the 9500 and add it to my e90, then from the e90, i had to convert the file to a mp3 and send it to my n900.
