Hi guys, i just wanted to share this with you. I made a video for booting, it's 21 seconds long, and i know, it's little too much, but i kinda like it this way. There are already few posts how to put it as your boot video, so here is one of them: link (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=40803)

You can see how the LONG version looks here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6Kf1qQsAls).

Download link for LONG version (WMV) is here (http://www.4shared.com/file/213402247/cf459cc1/n900_3.html).
Cheers! ;)

EDIT:
Ok guys, i made a SHORT version too. It's 10 seconds long. Somebody wanted an old TV turn off effect, and I am no Santa, but.. :)

See it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT4yW8Vy94s).

And if you like it, you can download AVI here (http://www.4shared.com/file/213740375/d2b9d8fc/n900_short_3.html).

I think my next video will be ~5 seconds long, but i'll try to make something more stunning. Cheers. ;)

EDITEDIT:
Surprise! (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=43187) ;)

pretty awesome, although a bit long...
Can you make a shorter version, maybe without the booting up part?

I agree, Get rid of the "Is Booting Up" and instead zoom in on the N900 sign quickly giving the appearance its shot towards the screen, sorted :)

Very cool, I would use this if it were shorter and instead of "is booting up" it just switched off like an old tv or monitor.

Doesn't seem to work on mine.

Yes, it's placed in /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media and the default.conf file has been edited...

Just a side note, if everythng seems to be set up properly, (video in the correct forler, conf file updated to reflect video name, etc), make sure you set the correct permissions for the video, once you upload it to the N900.

I prefer to use cyberduck, and it seems to not populate the correct permissions when uploading some files.

Could someone please provide an alternate download of the short video. I can't access it. I've enabled all the scripts on that page, but it just keeps sending me back to the download page and never actually downloads it. It is probably blocked on our network. Thanks if you can.

rm42 send me your e-mail.
If it's possible to change that logo with video while the device is turning off i can make a really short video (3-5s) with TV turning off effect. So, if somebody can tell us how to do it, and if it's possible to do it, i will provide another video just for that.
Thanks guys, i really appreciate it. Will try to make something new as soon as i can. Enjoy. ;)

Did you substitute new vid name for the original video name?
Also, not sure if it's necessary, but I inserted a dash character in place of each word space in the video title.

Ok this is what I did. I renamed the n900 short 3.avi into n900short.avi.
Changed the values in the default.conf to:

[hildon-welcome]'filename=n900short.avi'

copied both files via usb into my document folder. Disconnected the usp.

opened x terminal and typed the following:

sudo gainroot
mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/default.conf /etc/hildon-welcome.d/
mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/n900short.avi /opt/
cd /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/
ln -s /opt/n900short.avi n900short.avi

closed x-terminal

rebooted device....
result: no vid playing

Ok by doing so, I managed to get the original vid back.
guess I'll have to delete all instances of the n900_TV version and will try to uplaod it back. At least now I know what I am doing and I might actually get it there a lot faster. installed leafpad, which helps as well. This way I can just alter the dafault.config right there.
I'll keep you guys posted if it works.

I guess the idea behind this is not to fill up your memory for apps, since this way it is simply linked into the apps folder rather than taking up space.

Don't use leafpad man....use Mad Developer and WinSCP!! You just open up your computer and go to any folder...drag, edit, whatever you want to do with the file...so much easier.

Will check them out. Meanwhile, I did get it going by just copying it directly into the '/usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/' folder. For some reason the linking into the opt/ did not work for me. I thought ln -s would create this? So I had the file in the /opt/ shouldn't
'ln -s /opt/maemo.avi maemo.avi' than create that link (the file did show up...). Weird I'll have to try it again some other time.
Wife has been calling me to come home for dinner ;-)
Thanks all of you guys for your help.
The more I get into this, the more I love the n900. I am not saying 'phone' because the phone is the only part that pretty much sucks about it ;-)

I try what you did by creating a shortcut linking to /opt/...it works for me. Wow, i saved root space by doing that...i DID NOT KNOW THAT! Anyway, i typed exactly what you did and it created a shortcut in /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/ and it works. I also notice it LOAD MUCH FASTER TOO!!

So don't put the file directly in /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/ like i did before, it doesn't save root space and it doesn't load as fast. I don't know why your not loading....so did you see a shortcut in the /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/??

You have to be root (before running mc)...:

sudo gainroot

(requires rootsh installed)

And be sure to use the AVI file (wmv files won't work).

Don't use Notepad to edit that file. It is a long story. Just use a different plain text editor. If you don't have one you could do it right on the N900 with Leafpad. (I always use vim, but it takes a bit of a learning curve. Well worth learning it though.) Download the file again and edit it afresh. Let us know if that works.

when in mc just look at the bottom u see a line wich shows available space, for me it currently shows "29M (12%) of 228". and for example i see "sounds" folder is taking this space so i moved it to "/opt/share/sounds/" and made a link for it to "/usr/share/" where it should be, voila free space gained. i also did this to some other folders.... :D But if you do this i take no responsibility of your actions if you brick your device!!!

How 2 set up 2 videos on boot?
I have tried for a hour now and looked through all the threads.
I just need a copy of the config file you guys use..

This is my setup:

[hildon-welcome]
filename=maemo_flyby_xvid_lame_r3.avi
filename=short.avi

It only plays the last one.

Like this the same:

Hi, maybe It's already answered but I dont know where to look, so:

If I apply this video as my boot video-instead of hands- then remove it-accidently?- what happens? Does it still boot without a boot video, or revert back to hands.. and even worse: not boot at all?
