Hi All,
When i open the default media player i have 4 icons across the middle
MUSIC - VIDEO - INTERNET RADIO - SHUFFLE ALL SONGS
which is fine .... i know what they are.

at the bottom left it has a bit of text saying
'Intel Media Server (AN' (on the first screenshot)

when i press it on the touchscreen it then goes to the second screen shot screen I have included with full text at the top saying
'Intel Media Server (ANDYS_HOME' ....
my home pc is named ANDYS_HOME_PC so i am guessing i can use this function to listen to music and watch movies on my home pc???

my question is .....
1) what does this function do
2) why does it say (no files/folders)
3) how do i get files/folders added to it from my home pc? i am running vista?

it' a Media Server whith that you can share/stream Media files over the Network.
So you have somewhere a PC in your WLAN-Network where Filesharing is active

DLNA, your PC is configured for sharing files on the network, I'm not sure what the exact process is on Windows but it should be in something like Network and Sharing Center.

[QUOTE=fraaaaanka;544152]
1) what does this function do

Play music shared from other devices in the network via UPnP/DLNA.

2) why does it say (no files/folders)

Nothing shared?

3) how do i get files/folders added to it from my home pc? i am running vista?
Start the Windows Media Player and search for an option about sharing music (somewhere in the menu); then you should be able to select which stuff you want to share; at least that's the way I have seen it on my brother's PC.

It streams the files you have in media players media libraries. So go add some directories to windows media players media library and see what happens.

I don't know if there's a post
At home i share Media files over my Lapot (Win7) an they are shown in a List (see your second screenshot).
So I'm able to watch films that are stored on my PC on the N900 which is connected to my TV.
you just have to share the files or folders with the media content

cheers scharel, so how does it work?? is there a post somewhere on it?

In my windows vista a dialog box pops up asking if I want to allow sharing files with the detected device which is N900 so just click "Allow" and restart the media player(not sure if this is required) and tada.. hope it helps.

first of all you have to setup a password to your pc to be accessible over the network.

thanks to all who are trying to help here ..... this is a great util to have on my n900 as i connect my n900 to watch movies i have copied from my pc onto n900 in my bedroom ... if i can get this working i no longer need to copy and prepare what i want to watch!

I cant see my n900 on my pc anywhere ... do i need to activate something on my n900?

in the screen shot i have gone to
1) network and sharing centre and clicked 'view computers and devices'
2) clicked 'add a wireless device'
3) it searches then says 'no wireless devices were found'

1. in Windows Media Player (V11 in my case), do Tools/Options/Library/Configure Sharing
2. this should show "unknown device" (if it has already seen your n900) - if so, goto (3). if not:
2.1 select "settings" and then tick "allow new devices and computers automatically"
2.2 click OK and go back to previous screen. It may now show the device (if not, exit/reenter the dialogs)
2.3 once the device is shown, go back and uncheck "allow new devices" (its insecure)
3. In the settings, select types of mdia to share (you can choose pictures, audio, video)
4. n900 should then show you a set of folders, one for each type of shared media content, when you click your XP box's name in MPlayer's home screen

Hope that helps
