View Full Version : Forum quotes to new stories contain HTML entities?

http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226

The quote in the first post contains "—" several times, which makes the quote harder to read than it should be - some are unreadable due to the proliferation of entities.

I suspect these entities are being cut & pasted as text from the source.

Can more care be taken when posting these quotes, so that they are more readable?

And that makes me wonder what is the best encoding for the widespread readership here... Unicode UTF-8 ?

I should let Reggie handle this, as he is the webmaster, but if you will note, this site is an amalgamation of both vBulletin forum software and WordPress blogging software (with additional features on the way).

I assume this is an artifact of that joining together. When I post a blog entry, the content gets copied over into the forum software. WordPress needs the entities; vBulletin doesn't take to them.

I guess I should bear the onus of not going back through and cleaning up the blog items once they've been copied over. I don't update them either when I make changes to the blog or when I add more material. My bad.

During the weekend, we modified the script that handles the HTML to TEXT conversion. You should all see better formatted text from now on, for new articles.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Me thinks we may still have a way to go to improve the formatting. I know it's petty, but I honestly can't be bothered to read a summary that is a mish mash of HTML and English... :)
