Ok, so I've got the PipBoy 3000 in perfect 4-Squared blank wallpapers. Will post them shortly if its allowed.

I need to blank out some of the text entry so the screen looks blank.

there is one screen like the health status screen there just for novelty.

What I want to know is can I make

a)the shortcuts on the homescreens be "perk" images from the game.
b) have the menu buttons and entry menus in that glowy electric look
c) if its possible to add a "static" transition
d) if I can make the menu icons pipboy perks too on my xp computer

ill be working on changing the menu icons for perk or bobble head icons over the next few days, and music player widget, web widget ect could be changed to look like the pipboy, ive got a few fallout boot videos too

If your wanting to do a proper theme don't just edit the png files in default theme folder. You need to get a copy of the template. I'm willing to help you guys if you will send me some images to work with.

Looks like game designers have shutdown the BlackBerry and Windows Mobile Version of this theme. Looks easy enough if you want to send me any work you have this weekend I'll work on this theme. I'll even push it ahead of my Star Trek one I'm working on. If anyone wants to work on icons for me let me know

You're right. The pipboy look is identical to the old monochrome green monitors. If you've ever seen one of those, you've seen were Bethesda was going with the pipboy.

I know this post won't win me a popularity contest, but the whole idea of a Fallout3 theme is to have the N900 look like a pipboy.

While I truly appreciate the effort Leetut, I think this is where you're going about it the wrong way. Don't try to put a pipboy border around every icon, and don't reuse Fallout3 icons for app icons. The end result is campy, and doesn't really capture the Fallout 3 mood.

The blackberry theme you linked is as close to perfect as it'll get. If you can replicate that, or something close to it, that would be great. :)

Edit: Leetut, that last screenshot shows a lot more potential. Now if you'd give the icons that green monochrome look it would work much better. :D

A little thing that would be extremely useful would be if you could run your own application on the desktop, that way you could actually paint a pip-boy over your current background and have application shortcuts, widgets, etc. under the different tabs on the pip-boy.

I don't know if it is a published feature anywhere but I was told by a member of the Maemo UI team suppoet for html backgrounds should be in next release. I was told that most of the needed things are aleady in place. I was also told that you would not be able to include them in the theme package until a later version though. It would be easy to have a seporae package for them.

I don't like the icons at all....

I prefer the green button from one of the pipboy themes in the repos... (which has the same color of the pipboy and even the outline stuff :P)

the low res iphone theme backgrounds are the only ones that i know of that look like scanlines.

there is also this psp wallpaper but i couldnt find a way to get it out of the theme and it looks just as low res as the others.

Why not do some kind of Pip-boy with HTML when support for it gets here? That would be awesome. Are there any examples for how you would do this? Or can you just write whatever you want as long as it fits in 800x480 and renders in MicroB?

For fun I downloaded that PS3 pack some pages back and fired up Dreamweaver and did some coding, here's what came out:

(Yes, those bottom links are click-able in the .html document(they don't lead anywhere though) but the pictures are not)

I thought the easiest way was to use tables and position it absolute, but I probably have to rethink that idea(I normally don't code using tables anyway).

I should probably use those bottom buttons. But first I would need a better Pip-boy image, preferable ripped from the game files directly. Anyone knows how I could do that?

to post them in full resolution they have to be hosted some where else once you upload them to tmo it resizes them.

i've got a visual bug with the dark pipboy theme, the top left icon (switch tasks) sometimes gets a dark visual artifact partially hiding it, when multiple windows are open at the same time.
otherwise the theme is really superb !

Joppu, the pipboy theme looks great. Combined with andrew's wallpapers it'll really work (the red water background doesn't do it for me to be honest). I'll test it out more to see if there are any bugs, but so far it works. :D
Same here, I love that theme, but replaced the red wave with horizontal scanlines. I love how it looks now.

Red wave was the default wallpaper for the theme template and I didn't bother changing it since the first release was for testing only. Expect the scanlines in the next version.

That would be great. Obviously the desktop background can be easily changed while running the experimental pipboy theme, but not the lock screen background.

Just as a suggestion, but having a black lock screen background with the slider made up of scan lines would be cool. That would allow pretty much any desktop background to be used without having a mismatch to the lock screen background.

Can someone take the best of all those examples and merge them into a single theme? It feels like the base structure of the theme is made but if I want backgrounds or different font I have to fix this myself. It would be nice for a maemo-noob like myself to just download a theme with all these nice things implemented. :)

no luck with changing the fonts...
renamed the 4 copies of the font to the names of nokia fonts, in that dir. after reboot, nothing. tried changing theme and back, no change.

did you delete the original ones or just placed them in a backup dir (what i did) ?

you have to reapply the original fonts and reboot before changing any font again. i saved the originals on my computer and drag them back in with ssh each time.

whenever i try to replace the nokia fonts by the visitor.2.ttf font, the phone switches to a default font, slightly bigger than the original, but it wont take my visitor font :(

try a different font, i had those probs too when i first changed the fonts in that other thread and wasnt sure why, thats why i posted info to change font back to original before trying a new font, that seems to work for me, although i havent tried the above font

no matter what anyone does, everyones gonna have their own opinion of what they want to see, thats why i dont share the fallout themes i created, infact i dont even look in this thread anymore, no disrespect to joppu and the fantastic 'green pipboy' theme he created, but i personally dont want a 'green' theme, i wanted a 'fallout' theme, and to me that means 'nukacola and 50's style game posters / wallpapers ect.. and all the icons on the phone changed to colorful fallout icons and all the notification sounds changed to fallout sounds, (basically a full phone mod) but making everyone happy is a bit of a struggle, and dealing with ungratefull or demanding comments is not worth the time and effort, thats probs why the theme makers gave up too, if everyone kept their negative opinions to themselves we would probs have a nice selection of different fallout themes by now and everyone would be happy

I don't think its that weird I was fed up with several people downing my work. I was also tired of what t.m.o is turning into. I know I shouldn't have ranted so much but sometimes you just have to get it out. I have come back to t.m.o but I only read the Themes and Design Sections.

I really appreciate every work that anyone has made/done.

I don't think its that weird I was fed up with several people downing my work. I was also tired of what t.m.o is turning into. I know I shouldn't have ranted so much but sometimes you just have to get it out. I have come back to t.m.o but I only read the Themes and Design Sections.

Due to the release of N900, I'm sure there are at least 10 folds more active forum members than before. (just guessing but maybe even 20-50 folds) Not everybody will like your work no matter how nice they are. That's expected and "normal".

I'm sure you know that people in general express hate/complaints more than love/compliments.
I usually say, if it helps at least 1 person out there, it wasn't a waste of effort.

So don't take them too seriously. :p

Removed the pipboy theme because I decided it wasn't for me , but i still have a lot of leftovers. Regardless of the theme i switch too , the contact shortcuts on the desktop are still ringed green and the drop town at the top is also stuck green.... any ideas how to undo this?

If you just installed the release from joopu their should be no problem. If you installed some of the other stuff floating around in zip files then it might have over written your stock theme. Try chaning to another theme and rebooting to see if it goes away.

A second reboot has fixed it, thanks for the help. The pip-boy-3000 theme is pretty solid but I want to change some icons, and get a scan-lines background before i use it long-term. I'm also considering some paintwork on my otterbox case to achieve a grungy post-apoc look, haven't attempted a mod like that before but there are a lot of guides out there so it's tempting.

I got the Pipboy 3000 theme as it rocks but it doest work right on my N900

Menus are solid green intsead of black with green borders, and some text is unreadeable

any clues why?

Until joppu finishes his theme, I'm using D-livils D-THEME SimpleBlackGreen.
It's obviously not the same but is sort of similar and at least fully finished. =)

Some things I notice after using your Carbon theme are:
(I have applied the theme and rebooted)

1. Calender month view still showing Carbon theme. maybe just bug in my phone)
2. MSN/Google talk etc account fonts in editing contact is red.
3. Conversations font for names are magenta and blue.
4. Wallpaper is still the red splash one.
5. HAM main screen is a orange/purple color.
6. Media player main screen isn't a consistent flat green style.

I guess some I listed were intentional? Anyways, it feels it's not as complete as your other awesome themes such as Carbon or Array that's all.

I have been wondering, what are the risks of me downloading either of fallout themes, I understand the risks of downloading extras-devel apps, but even in that risks vary, sometimes the risk is not too high to repel me from downloading it; what I want to know is what should I watch out for if I decide download the Fallout theme?
it doesn't seem that dangerous from the posts I read, but then why is it in devel?

well I see, I just installed your theme and it's pretty good.
I manually set the wallpapers after downloading them from your post; I beIieve what is left in my oppinion is having some of the vault mascot guy (boy?), I think I heard that changing icons is either too difficult or impossible. so just having the mascot is good.
there is an iPhone/iPod fallout theme with moving scanlines, what does the iPhone have the N900 doesn't? html support?
anyway thanks for your hardwork, and I appreciate it.
PS. I'm trying to help by suggesting Ideas because I can't develope.

It'd require a 3rd party software to do that on thr N900.

anyway this is an image that I made using your (joppu) wallpaper, and Photoshop,
this isn't the best I can do, just a simple demonstration of the idea if you or anybody likes it. since as I see, the closest thing to an Icon alternative..even though I personally wish for that; is simple images sewn with the wallpaper.
I changed the hue/saturation of your wallpaper then added layers of images that I downloaded and colorized using the brightest green color Photoshop CS3 has and colorizing them (since they are originally white) with light set to -31, it might look a tad better or more original if it was set to -20 or so. anyway tell me what you think, is it worth to work on to produce a few?
by the way is it possible to change the font to visitor.tff using this (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=527559&postcount=8)method?

Pip-Boy 3000 seems pretty nice. Only Icons and Font, and it would be totally Awesome. (+ mentions from above like name colours in messaging etc).

I changed Fonts to visitor, following the Guide. It was pretty easy, and it looks amazing. Maybe I'm gonna build an Iconset. If i find some time, I will do.

I think I would do that. But anyone here knows a decent Tutorial on how to make Icons for the N900? They need to be png's, and transparent background or stuff like that. Then i would do like the basic icons. I think this is quite makeable.

Edit: I gave it another 20mins today for some new items. If anyone, who knows how to make that acutally work in a Theme, is interested. Please let me know.

Last I checked a few days ago it was still version 0.1 without a working PR1.3 keyboard. I think there's a manual patch somewhere in this thread for the keyboard, but it's not built into the extras devel package.
