Okies seems we are now getting somwhere thanks to Smoku's work

So far i have tested

WWF Warzone - Get 26 - 34 fps games works untill you go actually into a match then the camera seems to dissapear elsewhere. Game still runs and can hear everything and move but theres no screen.

WWF Smackdown - Bios loads before the game starts it crashes

Crash Bandicoot Warped - Crashes after bios loads.

Mine were all tested using bios's i downloaded they seem to not want to working when i run them under no bios and use the emulators bios.

Confirmed: Final Fantasy IX freezes after new game.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater (1) works: hardly playable.

Chrono Cross freezes at beginning (intro movies)

Oddworld: Abe's Ody, works. But not able to sneak on R2..

Silent Hill seems to work just fine, needs further testing.

Star Wars episode 1 phantom menace.. worked until i started game.. got some nasty graphical glitches.

Tekken 2 - works but screen is covered in long spikes (best way i can describe it) when ingame

Grandia - working at 20-30 fps average with sound (choppy sound though)

Final Fantasy VII - 30fps~ runs well, intro runs smooth aswell, just lagged sound.

Final Fantasy VIII - works fine till you start the game, just black screen when it tries to run intro.

Chrono Cross - boots up but freezes when u press start.

Digimon Worlds - actually the best game working so far lol, 40-45fps, even sound is pretty good, *peaks at 58-60fps at certain parts.

Tenchu Stealth Assassins - gameplay runs at about 35fps, quite playable.

Metal Gear Solid - sometimes closes psx4all in the intro when ive started a new game, i dont think the textures are loading correctly Snake is just a solid black figure, might be game though. But emu shows 40-60fps~ EDIT:Think the cycle multiplier at 5x caused this, tried it at default 2x running, no messed textures but 15-20fps~ stops occasionally to catch up.

Diablo - runs pretty well 35fps~, but as mthmob said cant access stats or inventory.

Command & Conquer - runs at about 25fps~,in-game sound is good, gameplay is playable, intros sound is choppy but runs smooth


btw got cycle multiplier set to 5, seems to runs smoother and smooths sound aswell.

ill try a few others and just edit my post :D

EDIT: cycle multiplier seems to run best at about 4 or 5, roughly 5fps increase, tried x10 for the hell of it, reads 45fps but game actually runs more choppy, and slightly slower i think

great idea :) the wiki could also contain setup instructions and settings tested with what game, and recommended bios's. and so on. that might take some of the pressure off the psx threads.

Anyone get Raiden Project or Raiden 2 to work? Movie demo plays, but can not access the game. "Works" in PCSX, but at about 1 FPS.

Demo is MUCH smoother with PSX4ALL and since 2D, my hope is it will play decent.

UPDATE: Did not have bios loaded :rolleyes: Raiden 1 & 2 play "decent" with sound. :)

Just tried driver 1 demo and it plays quite well 50% ish speed i will try the full game soon and report back.

wipeout 3 demo is smooth with sound at about 50%,
agian i will try the full game once i dig it out.

just to clear up the fps counter, when it reads fps:2587 i take it that means its pushing out nearly 26 fps????

The emulator segmentation faulted (I was running from the cmdline) after the BIOS before the movie. Oh well, back to trying to find time to get wine on qemu to work, I was close before.

Well I tried geting castlevania SOTN to run, but it crashes on load. Well it actually says load failed. I'm using the 1001 bios. I'm not sure i'm doing everything right though. Could someone post a quick checklist on what they did to get any of their iso's to work?

1. Raiden 1 & 2 play at about 80% with sound (pretty good)
2. Deads or Alive plays at about 50% with sound (surprised it was that good without GPU assist).
3. Gunner's Heaven plays at about 70% with sound

An option to turn CD audio off and a way to use the GPU would probably make all three games play at normal speed. Never thought that would happen, so I am surprised in a good way :)

GTA2 seems to work but when I begin a new game I cannot see my character, others, cars etc. but the walk of a ghost in ghost town is very smooth!

Be nice if there was a way to rip CD audio out and video out of my PSX CD collection (yes, real games). Most games (90%) are actually 20mb to 150mb of real game and SFX data. Rest is movies or cd audio.

Hey, I was just wondering when someone was going to bring that up.

You need an app called PocketISO. Current version seems to be 3.2, which will compress audio to MP3 as well as the normal business of deleting video (as you say, that takes up the bulk of most PSX game CD's).

which is the best bios to use for psx4all ? currently using schp101.bin which is the 2003 one . its working ok for the most part but the sound spits get on my nerves . stuttering . sounds like popping

update: i think i was reading the fps wrong, i was getting 30-40fps. i tried the scph1001.bin BIOS and it now runs consistently @ 40fps with less graphical glitches. raising the frame skip makes the game go blank and any cycle multiplier higher than 3 pauses the game (the paused start menu comes up inside the game) and i am unable to resume until i set the multiplier back down to 3.

this is the only game i really care about on PS1 and I've run it in emulation on a few other systems. even in this alpha state psx4all runs this game better than my old TYTN2 running the newest version of fpsece. best i could do with fpsece was around 22fps with a 3 frameskip. so i am excited to how this develops, if it can achieve around 50fps this fast racing game will be very fun to play. thanks and good job devs!

The only game that has not worked for me is Crash Racing (I have been trying less taxing games- that was the most taxing I tried). Frankly, I will be happy with Raiden 2, Dead or Alive,Gunners Heaven and Hot Shots Golf. I never expected those to work well, but Raiden 2, Gunners Heaven and Hot Shots are very playable :)

If there is some way to get GPU support, Dead or Alive should work well too (about 60% speed ATM).

.mdf is a file produced with alcohol 120%, probably you have to convert it in iso or bin if it is possible...

if your using the latest 0.3.9 the bios directory has moved now from home/user/ to home/user/MyDocs i had the same problem, moved it, runs fine again.

thanks for the reply, but since then i managed to pass the fight, updated to the newer version, eventually ignoring dependencies and such, and now psx4all wont even load no matter what i do, havent seen anyone else with this problem and i reckon i've bugged people enough over this app so i'm just gonna have to have some patience and live without it for now!

thanks, actually checked the other psx4all post and realised i had the 3.5 version from a day or two ago, got 3.9 and its working... til the exit after the first fight, still, improvement! and its only happened once so i'm not worrying, try again in the morning since i've seen the intro vid sooooo many times i may gouge my own eyes out if i have to sit through it again now!

and these little tests just make you appreciate things more when they finally do work eh? :)

definatly lol, makes it all worth while, ive had no problems with the fight scenes as of yet so hopefully its just a one off for you matey, if still no good i could post my memory card file one save at sector 6 and the other at the first reactor after meeting barret. And as for red alert ill see if i can find my rom file, but you know there is a port for it called Open Red Alert but it is buggy though only skirmish and crashes when telsa fires.

hello, I'm new to this but want to help. have tried the following;

FF 7, works fine. cycle multiplier to 7
carmageddon. very slow. graphical glitches.
pandemonium. crashes at load screen.
x-men vs street fighter. slow but playable.
colin mcrae rally. crashes at load screen.

I am using the 3.9 version but have old firmware (2.2009.51-1.205.1) so dont know if this affects the emu

Will try more later once I have ripped some discs.

Some Q's. 1, Can I place more than 1 bios file in my docs and if so how do i select which one. 2, anybody with advice for running colin mcrae please (my fave ps1 game):)

i keep trying ff8, for me boots up the title runs the main fmv, press start, then select new game and you get a black screen the fmv wont play but it is running because you hear the music though extremely slow. so i think it might be the format of the intro.

iam now running my n900 at 900mhz which is approx 50% more power for psx4all to use

if you havent i would look at overclocking for an added boost in performance a user in the overclocking thread has reported quite big gains while using this emulator

yeah i can see the reason for doing it, with like 50%-70% more power id imagine the emulation would be near full speed, but everything comes at a cost, forced increased performance means the device generates more heat and drains battery life faster. I'd just worry about something going pop, i still havent found out how reliable the hardware is, but as far as i can tell it is reliable but obviously forced performance is gonna make it less reliable :(

what game are you trying? there isnt a wide area of working games at the moment, for example chrono cross freezes the moment its loaded. Try a game thats been reported as working.

I get it running at about 60-70 % speed and all is good. however it seems the enemy A.I is completely absent. they just stand there doing nothing even when I attack them. you need to play around with the cycle multiplier and frameskip.

for a 900Mhz clocked N900 i used multiplier 3 and frameskip 1/2, for stock (600Mhz) i use multiplier 3 frameskip 2/3. some combinations will work. also, turn OFF frame limit.

also, i'm using scph1001.bin

works really well @ 900Mhz :)

Incidentally I got marvel vs capcom going fairly fast (70-80%) on a stock 600mhz n900 using multiplier to 7. Is it worth overclocking or will future iterations of this excellent emu be based on a standard n900 clock speeds?

Me neither, but for faster interface, browser, much smoother Flash games / video, MAME and PSX4ALL, the 800MHZ is appreciated. If you use your device 24 hours a day, it may be an issue, but even with the most aggressive degradation curve, 200 more mhz is not going to be a problem unless keeping your device for years. In that case, 600 mhz is an issue as well ;)

The N900 performs as it should have with 600mhz- fast and responsive :)

GTA2 seems to be a no go though I might have a bad image, it runs however:

- The cars seem a funny colour (mostly all blue so maybe there are some damaged textures, need to check on laptop)
- Sound is there although the intro FMV either has choppy sound or too fast sound depending on the cycle.
- Menu works fine but race won't start if above cycle 5.

Wipeout 3 Special Edition on the other hand looks damn near perfect! Full frame rate, all the sound although lacking the awesome trance music they used to have but maybe because the audio is CDA like they used to do and PSX4ALL can't play CDA tracks from the mounted image :(

The scaling is a bit sucky at the moment though :)

one thing to mention final fantasy works at aprox 20~30 frames per second if you overclock the core speed of the n900 to 900 mHz an awsome performance boost!

well just thought id share this, somebody mentioned about using other bios so i renamed scph7502(41a).bin to scph1001.bin using FF7 as my test game. On the initial boot up big difference speed wise and gameplay was slightly faster with better sound/music just sounded a little slow but not choppy. And im not OC.

It's not a good idea to ask where to pirate games, I guess there should be some policies here.
If you own any PSX games, you can rip them yourself into image files.

I'm using the built-in HLE withouth having any other version than the current one installed before. FFVII stops working when the first battle screen should appear.

Are other bios files recommended? Cycle multiplier was set to 10 and 5, both not working, default for the rest of the settings.

While using a PSX emulator my device is overclocked to 900Mhz. Although the sounds still seems to be a little "behind", the intro and the loading screen run almost perfectly.

Anyone willing to give advice? ;)

Using the '97 PSX BIOS now but couldn't find time to test it out. Hope I'll have it later.

Sound off (but there is sound)

Games:

-Silent Hill--works fine (with built in bios it stopped at the first screen)

-Colin Mc Rally--works with 90% speed but sound in movies is a bit lagged (with built in bios it crashed a lot)

-Crash Bash--works fine

-Final Fantasy VII--works fine (with built in bios it crashed at first fight)

-Final Fantasy Tactics--works fine but videos lag a bit

-Power Shovel--works fine

-Gran Turismo--works really bad cars move very slow but all is ok :D (with built in bios it didn't want to start)

-Tony Hawk 3/4--works with 90% speed

No bios, You need to set multiplier to 1 also. The only Tekken 3 iso i got working is a ripped one, where movies are stripped from the iso. (still crashes after first fight in arcade is over).

This is just my own experience. Maybe others got further.

As far as I understand. The emulator isn't illegal, the bios and the games are. This is why we can't link to these from this forum. You will get banned if caught. The only thing any of us can do is say to Google for them.

The bios is copyrighted, Sony can legally shutdown any emulator distribution if that has the bios.

One of the first PSX emulators, Virtual Game Station (VGS, I have used that on PC which was very good)
It didn't need the PSX bios at all, run PSX game right out of the box. So Sony couldn't shut it down after a lawsuit, and later Sony just bought out that company.

Thanks, tried Mortal Kombat 4 and Metal Gear Solid with 100% framerate increase (40ish) with 850MHz titan's kernel but still not full speed :) but the question is can N900 survive the often 100% cpu load(with 800+MHz speed) for say 30mins to an hour :(??

I don't think any game is running at full speed at the moment as I guess it still is a work in progress and I guess this thread is about the games that works without crashing the app.

Depends on the game, I guess. I'm OC'd at 900mhz and so far FF7 is pretty flawless. Fiddle with the cycle multiplier a bit maybe, sometimes having it too high up can mess with it. FF7 runs best for me on 3, without frameskip.

I have need for speed road challenge running perfectly @1000mhz (it took me a while but now ive finaly got a decent driving game working on the n900) WooHoo:D

I can't manage to get Crash Bash to boot properly, it freezes with a sound at the "Sony Computer Entertainment America Presents" screen, right after the playstation logo screen.

I have n900 @ 900Mhz (Titan's) psx4all 0.3.9 and bios scph1001.bin at /home/user/MyDocs. Every game stops after the second sony logo! I uninstalled and reinstalled... but nothing, still the same prob. I had also Lehto's Kernel @ 900Mhz but still nothing! I even changed the bios to scph7502.bin (renamed to scph1001.bin) but.... It crashes at second sony logo every time. Any ideas?

hey guys im new to the ps emulation and i started up because i heard people were geting better results with games like ff7 but for me its completely unplayable can people who got i working good please let me know what their settings are etc?

no warez for me! i have a lot of games but i couldnt rip em anything else than .iso. i found out that any of my games aa .iso coudnt be run so i download a game that i already have (so legal) in another format like .img and .bin and now its ok!

Hello guys i have a big problem, but i cant find a way out!
I have n900 @ 900Mhz (Titan's) psx4all 0.3.9 and bios scph1001.bin at /home/user/MyDocs. Every game stops after the second sony logo! I uninstalled and reinstalled... but nothing, still the same prob. I had also Lehto's Kernel @ 900Mhz but still nothing! I even changed the bios to scph7502.bin (renamed to scph1001.bin) but.... It crashes at second sony logo every time. Any ideas?

Colin mcrae was crashing on mine all the time on the second screen....don`t know how I fixed it but I think I was pressing 'space' and 'x' randomly and then, voila, it passed the second screen....since that time it never crashed!

First of all.. im running a pal version. And using bios scph7502 renamed to scph1001.

Second, you need multiplier set to 10. Can work with lower setting. And you can try turning frameskp on to 1/2, but do not turn frameskip on for poly, sprite or line. Anything else should be fine.

Installing PSX4All took only 5 minutes, only had to copy the BIOS and it worked :o

I tested so far:

- Spyro 3 (Working quite fine, just the sound is a bit laggy)
- Diablo 1 (Works very fine, but its sadly crashing with strange blue spikes once you enter the dungeon. May Smoku can have a look at it? The whole game is working good except that)

well just thought id share this, somebody mentioned about using other bios so i renamed scph7502(41a).bin to scph1001.bin using FF7 as my test game. On the initial boot up big difference speed wise and gameplay was slightly faster with better sound/music just sounded a little slow but not choppy. And im not OC.

Confirmed, also games with issues will work with the alternate BIOS. Diablo works for example fine with the SCPH5702.bin, no more crashes in instances and even the videos / sound plays smooth!

I haven't tried any games myself, but planning to do it soon.

I compiled this list (Mostly copy & paste from the thread) for the games.
It is a mess, but at least you can look for your game there, and if you want more info, then look in the thread.

It would be nice if it is updated avery now and then, but I don't think I'll be able to do it.

Scratch that, since the new app update, I can now use custom bios, and it is fully playable with cycle at 4

Interesting problem, using the cycle at 4 and frameskip at 4/5:

with 1001 bios: everything works except accessing the memory card (via title screen or in-game)

with HLE bios: game crashes zooming in on the first village after the giant wall o' text. Memory cards work properly. Performance, based on the title sequence, seems much worse despite equivalent framerate.

Any ideas?

Looking for a decent game to screw around with with my PS3 controller. If I wanted to play RPGs I'd play SNES. Seriously keen for some action games, getting wipeout.. but nothing else comes to mind that would be expected to run well.

On topic:
Found Micro Machines runs almost 100% (with 0/1 FS and 1 multiplier at 850 MHz)
FF7 runs fine with x3 and 1/2 FS at 950 MHz

Wipeout 3 runs extremely well, playable at 600 mhz, flies at 1.15 ghz...

Frameskip 3/4, I had multiplier at 8, but noticed today that it meant the game was running fast. Setting it to 4 made it run about right, and fixed some odd behaviour that was happening.

Also, I noticed that if I let the intro animation play, every 5 - 10 secs in game the framerate would drop dramatically (ie 3-4 fps) and this would carry on even if I restarted the emulator and skipped the intro. The only way to fix it was to restart the device...

Ridge Racer 4 Pal : slow playable, perfect full motion video and sound! (cycle 4, frame skip 0/1)

Fade to Black: Mess with polygons
Diablo: Fully Playable with sound! (cycle 4, frame skip 0/1)

What is cycle multiplier? I have read a lot of pages but i can't find an explanation...

Normally PSX processor runs x instructions per second. The hardware processor is faster, so after finishing emulating one instructions it needs to wait some time before it starts processing next instruction. You may shorten this waiting time, and have emulated processor running y times faster. This is the multiplier.

But, there is a BIG but... The emulator has many more things to emulate, like I/O and GPU and it usually takes place in the described "waiting" time. N900 does not have enough power to emulate it all with the current codebase, so you may compensate the lag using multiplier only to some extent.

SIlent hill plays fine (cycle 4 skip 3/4) although there is a like a grey square round the main character (Not sure if this is supposed to be there or not)

Syndicate wars plays okay too, slows down a bit when there's a lot of action..

It's looking like there should be lots of games to play once the GPU plugin is implemented .. :)

GTA 2 runs amazingly fast, but cars and characters are not drawn

MDK runs but is glitchy. First part is slow but then okay once you start on the ground. Not tested different multipliers

Ridge racer works but at 60% speed

Tony Hawk 2 works but is slow 60% or so...

Tiger woods 50% speed

Metal Gear solid runs fine, 70% speed.

All at 1.15ghz

streetfighter alpha is very slow but runs

Civ 2 runs fine

Cool boarders 4: runs fine but very slow 30% at multiplier 8

Medal of honour underground runs but slowly

Gran Tourismo 2: cycle 2, Works but at about 30% speed, colours of cars are all messed up too.

Okay, I forgot I restarted my n900 so the above post was at 600mhz...

Wipeout XL now zooming along at cycle 10, slightly slower than it should be (Jusdging from timers) probably about 90%

R Type Delta works but various graphical glitches depending on ehat cycle multiplier you use...

Vib Ribbon works for a start, then hangs if you select either play or how to play. (Not tried with cycle 1)

I'm getting an identical issue with 2 different Wipeout 3 ISO's.. manage to find any solution to this? I assume it has to do with the sound.. but my disable sound button doesn't actually do anything (assuming the same for all).

i had ff7 working perfectly (at 1ghz oc) but theres a glitch as soon as i descend in the submarine on disc 2 it wont move anywhere, just spin in circles and i have to reset. is there any known fix for this?

Do you use any specific bios? I know my n900 isn't overclocked, but was hoping a specific bios would help on the speed.

As i wrote on the other thread try this. When you are playing press volume button once. I tested this thing with 3 games and i gain 10-12 fps.

N900 600 Mhz cycle 6

Ridge Racer 4: 31 fps normal, 40fps with volume button pressen once
WIp3out 35fps normal, 45fps with the trick!
Diablo 34 fps normal, 42 with trick

had another go on tony hawk's pro skater 2 today - runs well on frameskip 0 and clycle 5. This worked at a decent playable speed (judging from the timer, not sure how the fps meter equates to actual fps. Is 5600 56 fps?)

This was with the device o'c'ed to 1.15ghz mind you, and it crashed shortly aferwards...

It's incredible but it seems to work, i tested abe's exoddus and simphony of the night and i gain 10 - 12 fps. More games are now playeble, i hope this can be of any use to smoku.

It's strage but yes. you need to let a message appear on screen or a background process to run. I tested this thing in a lot of way. You can obtain the same result without volume button but simply connecting the N900 to an access point. If i use Ridge Racer with an internet connection in background the 3D part of the gain runs at 42 fps (33 without trick).

Try it, so we can know if it works for everyone.

The fps you gain aren't few, the difference is really noticeble

P.S. It works with Psx4all official release. Doesn't work with new unrealeased version.

Team Buddies - Playable, a little laggy sometimes. Can probably be made better if you play around with the settings.

Red Alert Retaliation - Very playable. Sound in FMVs is glitched. Can slow down when there's lots of units on the map, granted it slowed down on the actual hardware too. :p
