As you may have heard by now, CompUSA is closing over 125 stores, so everything is
on sale. As of last night a check of two local stores showed 10% off everything. The
N800 was $314 and the 770 was $275. Prices will continue to drop as they get closer to closing in 60 to 90 days. Inventory varies and you can only get what they have on hand with no returns, but someone might be able to get a great deal.

TROGDOR!!

Just to make it clear, I think this applies only to stores that are closing, rather than the entire chain.

I was in a the CompUSA in Emeryville, CA last night, and there was no sale on N800s (or anything else beyond the usual weekly sales).

The ComUSA in Woodland Hills is closing while a nearby Frys prospers. I think that Frys is basically the Wallmart of computer stores, but that's ok; I like Wallmart.

i dont think CompUSA is going out of business, or has a financial need to close the stores. i have heard rumor that TigerDirect might be buying the chain, and cutting overhead is one way to make a buyout more likely to succeed.

Sounds about right. They are cashing out on stores that have weak performance, and the owner is rumored to be considering selling the business.

CNet/Reuters story: http://news.com.com/CompUSA%20to%20close%20more%20than%20half%20of%20U .S.%20stores/2100-1041_3-6162933.html

As was said, only closing stores will have the discounts. Here in Connecticut only 1 out of 3 of our stores are closing. We have no Fry's... CompUSA only has to compete with Best Buy, Circuit City, and Staples.

It seems all the Compusa stores in Los Angeles are toast as well... the Compusa store locator now shows the closes store being in Fresno!!! :-(

being that they are closing, they dont list the stores as "active", but the timeline for closure is 30 - 90 days. its most likely that your local store is having a bargain basement sale, and they dont want to attract the heathens on all fours...

For NorCal users:
Concord has 4 left and they are marked down to $280
Pleasanton has 1 demo unit left and it is being sold for $320

Got my N800 from SoCal Fountain Valley for $302 out the door. Had to drive out there cause the closer Redondo Beach store doesn't consider them cell phones so only 10% off instead of 30%.

compusa rip-off, i can understand why they are going out of business. I went to the store closing near vegas and they wanted 350 for their n770. No customer service what so ever.

why does it seem like everybody here is from Cali?, in Garden City NY they had it for $319.99, but unfortunately I already had one. But the rest of the store, what ripoffs for stuff, I wouldn't pay 44 bucks for 100 store brand DVDRs, and thats with it on sale.

Compusa had like 7 stores within hours drive from me, all will be closed cause they are pulling out of the over compedtive markets (theres nearly a Best Buy & Frys near every single one of them) Same is happening in population centers in Norcal. Theres just no profit in selling computers anymore.

Manager told me on the phone that each store is being liquidated independently, so each are being picky about discount pricing.

I also am very happy with my 770. But I walked into a closing CompUSA today here in Houston and got an N800 for $279.99! I just couldn't pass it up either. It's the Willowbrook Mall location here in Houston and they had three left after I got mine if anyone is in the area and interested. No 770 there though.

Great SeRi@lDiE! Yep, though about ebying the others too, but outside of here, just never met anyone else in person who had one of these (770 or 800). I may wait and check the prices/quantities again later too.

Been hunting the local (closing) stores for various items. As for the N800, Sugar Land store was out, and I was going to go to the FM1960 near I45 spot after Willowbrook, but I spent enough and decided to head back to work before I got too crazy.

And in a few weeks, I'm sure I'll say that "gee, I should have waited" when I hear some one got one for under $150, but really I am happy with what I got at the price.

wow, looks like a lot of 770/800 user in Houston. I was just at the Willowbrook compusa yesterday and saw they had 3 left, but the price was 319.99. I'm still pissed at Nokia, but it's getting harder at these prices. I just might give in and buy one today at 279. I'm going to check it again after work.

I assume you mean the one beside Office Max??? I was there yesterday and it was 319 still, so when I saw this post I went back and there's still 3 left and it still says 319. I ask the guy there and he said no it's not 279 that that sticker 319 is the price.

I guess it wasn't meant to be. Fate is trying to tell me not to buy it. I was all excited to get one, but now that I calmed down, maybe it's a good thing I didn't buy it. Oh well...

Damn...I should have let them scan to check the price...that punk at compUSA just doesn't care about selling anymore...most of them just goofing off at the store.

Another thing I just comes to mind. All those people who bought extended warranty from compusa are probably screwed now.

GREAT! I knew I wasn't dreaming. Now go over to MicroCenter and get a couple of 2gb SD cards for $12.99 (each).

SO when you went back did they still insist it was $319? I had one weasel of a sales associate who seemed scared to say anything, but then another there, female with synthetically red hair who was very nice and helpful. Both were just poorly informed and reading what was on the yellow tag, but once scanned by the computer at the register, the correct price came up. I never went back to either sales associate to inform them...my bad. At the Sugarland store, they were all just hanging out it seemed...much more relaxed, but when approached they were all very willing to help. I think it's just chaos in CompUSA now-a-days and I agree they probably don't feel very motivated. But under the circumstances, who would?

I hadn't checked this site in a while...and when I saw the thread on the main page I was like "Compusa is closing!?!?...I better spend this $400 store credit I got from returning my 770..."....called my girlfriend and told her to go over to the one right by our house...since I was at work, and she said it was dry. SHe said they didn't have ****. So I left work early to get to the one by my work. They had 3 N800's and 1 or 2 770's but the 770's were also $280...

I almost faught with one of the guys there because one guy told me it's %30 off of the $399.99 meaning it's $120 off, I was waiting for my girlfriend to come with my store credit. The guy which told me that was busy and some other dude helped me out...and while I was at the register, I was about to pay, when he came back and said "uhh, they're only taking %5 off"...I'm like "What?!?, why!?", He says, they're treating it like a computer and computers are only %5 off, yet the laptops and PC's were %10 off, NOTHING he said made sense. I found the first guy that was helping me and told him what happened, and he eventually straightened it out.

$279 US??????? You guys in the USA are so lucky... in Canada NO RETAIL store sells the Nokia N800... Tiger Direct Canada did for like 1 week when I was broke but not since... so I had to go on eBay and pay $385 + $30 shipping = $415 US total... but atleast it was unopened with a seal on it and so far not 1 problem with it... I would have gone as high as $500 US for one though.

And here's the issue with buying from one of these closing stores...they won't exchange it. Last night, out of the blue, my new N800 could no longer see the WiFi connections. I reflashed with other problems, but still no WiFi. I'm calling Nokia tomorrow. The closing CompUSA store told me not to bring it back to them. Hmmm...I wonder if a non closing store might exchange it. Left a message in the troubleshooting area to see if there was anything else I could try.

If you buy it in a Closing store your product is not exchangable you have to go thru manufactures warranty... When I bought mine they stamp my recipt with a label that said "NO REFUNDS" Maybe you can get lucky and try to go to a non closing CompUSA and try to return it by saying that you bought it in a CompUSA out of state and you lost your recipt..... Make sure you say you pay cash.... It worked once for me at Microcenter :D

If you go to a closing compUSA make sure to have them RING it up at the register. They keep on telling me this too until I MADE them scan it. Which comes out 279. Hope you get yours before it runs out. Most of them don't care about making a sale.

The one I went to only had 2 left (after I bought mine), I would be willing to help out other itT members by buying the last 2 if they still have them, and shipping them out to them, I don't want to make any money out of the deal...just pay receipt price ($304.something + shipping to you). I'll see if the other store in my area has them still as well...let me know in the forum, since I rarely check my PMs.

For those not in St. Louis, we may be able to work something out via paypal.

In any event, they bought them from Nokia. :)

I bet Nokia is happy. It's got to skew user projections a bit with more units now on the street than expected. Do you think they will step up a little more than they have been?
I looked at that dang Tableteer site again last night. No new content since January.
