The 1st-person shooter that started it all.
As the Allies hero, B.J. Blazkowicz, you run around 3D mazes and blast away Nazis until you can find your way out of their fortresses, prisons, and secret laboratories.

To play, you will need the files from the original game.
It was compiled for Wolf3d Full v1.4 version (.wl6 files).
Copy files to MyDocs/.wolf3d folder to play the game.

This is great, mate!

I wonder if you could cook up a bit more advanced keymapping, though... For example - I use the following setup for Doom:

LEFT THUMB
A - strafe left
S - forward
D - strafe right
Z - previous weapon
X - backpedal
C - next weapon

RIGHT THUMB
: - turn left
UP - fire
ENTER - turn right
DOWN - use/open

Now, without dedicated strafe left/right buttons the whole thing gets kinda difficult... Also -- auto-run, or some kind of run-lock would also be extremely welcome.

@CepiPerez: Great work, this stuff is just perfect! :)

But, one thing I'm missing is support for the shareware version, as I don't have access to the full game files right now. So I did some digging around and have come up with a build for the shareware version (attached.)

This is basically the same thing with some tweaks:

Made it so that the data directory isn't hidden, i.e. MyDocs/wolf3d instead of MyDocs/.wolf3d, as this is easier to install IMO (no terminal required)

Eliminated the use of sudo gainroot in the launcher script

In my limited testing it seems to work fine. Note that this package was just thrown together by me in like 10 minutes, so it might conflict with the full version, so don't try to install both at the same time. I'll see about cleaning that up tomorrow and then maybe we can think about uploading it to the repos...

Wolf4SDL was not compiled for these data files:
vgahead.wl6 contains a wrong number of offsets (159 instead of 150)!

Please check whether you are using the right executable!
(For mod developers: perhaps you forgot to update NUMCHUNKS?)

Any solution for this?

Same happens to me before.
Seems like the engine doesn't support it.
If I change numchunks the game crashes.
So, google for the game (as I did) and get the correct one, or PM me.

The sound effects are played too late...

Hello,

Thanks a lot for writing this.

Unfortunately it is not working for me. I tried both versions (the full one with WL6 files and the shareware one with WL1 files) and both go to a black screen with the spinning star at the top, then quit to the task switcher.

Any ideas?

Yeah--You have to change some defines in the version.h file to correspond with the data files you want to use and then recompile it. That's how I got the shareware build working.

I got it working with the 1.4 version already :)

Game is awesome!
The Sequel to the game (Spear of Destiny) is also great :D

Hello I've installed the package, but I couldn't find the .wolf3d folder in MyDocs. So I created it myself, an afterwards copied the .wl6 files into it. But it keeps on crash whilst trying to start.
Can anyone help?

hi guys
i had my n900 for 4 month now, every thing is working fine and perfect, but to be honest I'm new to Linux biased platforms, (no shame in that), and i have been trying to play doom, wolfenstein,..etc and no success , and until now i haven't seen any instructions to follow for beginners like me , it all sounds wonderful with coping the game file to my docs/ blah blah, but for me this doesn't sound like any thing i can see on my n900.

maybe i sound stupid but excuse my ignorance ,i have to ask cuz this is how i learn.

please will any of the developers or the maemo Devils here try and put it in a simple 1-2-3 steps so beginners like me can enjoy it also.

i hope I'm not asking for much and hope somebody answers my cry for help.

PS: please if there is such a thread or a topic here or on another website please will some one refer me to it.

Just pay the 2.99, you either want it or you don't and it's already been expressed here that piracy isn't promoted here, people have told you they won't tell you how to get it for free - 2.99 is hardly expensive.

No MyDocs is the root folder of the internal memory. If you open file manager and select Nokia N900, that's MyDocs. documents is a folder within MyDocs

PrBoom uses the shareware WAD by default. For completely dfsg-compliant Doom action, the Freedoom WAD could be used instead; but the shareware version of doom is freely distributable.

Edit: @richwhite: files that begin with a dot in linux aren't visible in some modes of access. To be sure, use xterm and the command
ls -a <directory name>

So, open xterm and type
ls -a MyDocs
and see if the directory in question is there.

The files and folders appear but not .Wolf3D.
I've installed Wolfenstein from the repos, should it be there automatically?

Edit: found it in filebox in opt/home there's now Wold3D (not .Wolf3D). Is that the folder to add the files? Also, never used steam before but bought the game from there, when do i find the actual files? It's put a game icon on my desktop and clicking it just opens the game automatically

When you download something from Steam it is installed to (the folder you installed Steam to)/Steam/steamapps/common(or a folder with your steam account name in some cases). If the .Wold3D folder doesnt exist on MyDocs try creating it yourself.

Thanks for that, not looked for the game files themselves yet so hoping there won't be a problem. My concern right now is where to put the files when i have located them, because there's no .Wolf3D in MyDocs. I have found a Wolf3D folder in Filebox in opt, should i put them there?

OK, just tested the game myself. I created the .wolf3d folder to MyDocs, placed my datafiles there and the game worked fine, so I would suggest you doing the same.

Rich, create a .wolf3d file under MyDocs (/home/user/MyDocs/.wolf3d) and copy your .wl6 files there. That should do the trick.

Which keys are used to switch weapon? I'm not sure, but for PC version keys from 1 to 0 were used. They don't work on my N900.
Is it possible to switch weapon by clicking on the screen? It doesn't work for me. Maybe because I've set action "open" (door opening) on left mouse button...

- I got all the .wl6 game files placed in (/home/user/MyDocs/.wolf3d)
- I click the game icon, it crashes back to desktop
- I don't get any messages or notifications of any kind

Any ideas ??
