Free Heroes 2 is now in extras-devel!

We'll use this thread for bugreporting at first.
Instructions:
Install the program and copy your data and maps files (under DATA and MAPS folders in the original game) to /opt/fheroes2/files/data
and the map files under /opt/fheroes2/files/maps
You can have them elsewhere if you modify the fheroes2.cfg to point to the correct location.
Please note that Campaign mode and Kingdom view is not implemented in the upstream, so we'll have to wait until the developer implements those.
This is due to the fact that There is a demodata package coming to extras, with the demo data automagically installed.
if you don't have the game, you can download the demo data package from extras-devel, and be able to play it right away.
the config and save files are stored under ~/.fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg and ~/.fheroes2/save/
so if you have save files from playing the earlier versions, you can copy them there and they will (should) show up in the game.
Gameplay:
It seems to work very well on my device at least. Right click is mapped to ctrl-click, or you can enable longclick by changeing the line

in the fheroes.cfg file mentioned above.

PS: if you installed build 6 or earlier, you will have to modify your fheroes2.cfg file, or copy the new fheroes2_default.cfg file over it to get the correct data and maps paths for the demodata package. reinstalling will not automatically replace your cfg file.
The packages are optified. They will however take up 5786 bytes of data on your rootfs.

To install the data files from your original game you need to transfer the MAPS and DATA folders to your phone.
You then need to copy the contents from MyDocs to opt:
I have my data stored under Mydocs/Games/HOMM2/
so I would write the following to copy them to the proper place:

There is now a new package in extras-devel which is called fheroes2-demodata, which contains demodata for fheroes2. It contains one map for the game.
You can just install the demodata package if you want to play the game right away, the actual game will be installed with it.
if you have the original files, then just install the fheroes2 package and copy the data and maps files to /opt/fheroes2/files/data and /opt/fheroes2/files/maps.
You can also move the data files to MyDocs if you want, but then you have to modify the fheroes2.cfg file in ~/.fheroes2/ to point to the new location.

uninstall and delete the config file, and then reinstall. That should do it. Do you have the data files? Those are required. If you don't have them, download the demodata package.
EDIT the config file is /home/user/.fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg

got music working. i uploaded the ogg files onto 4shared:

unzip these into your /fheroes2/files/music directory
edit your fheroes2.cfg file so that the line
music = on
says music = ext
you may also want to uncomment the music volume line and change it to 8, i found that to be about the right loudness.

I had a crash with the demo map while I was moving the hero on the map, but after a new trial with the true game maps, everything seemed ok.
Except that texts are damn small. I fear what it would have been if both screen and games were 800x600 instead of the "small" 640x480 :D

you can change the size of the fonts if you modify the fheroes2.cfg file like this:
# use ttf fonts
# unicode = off

I can still see the entire map. Both updated to rls 8 and did chown user commands. Maybe its not fixed in the engine remake yet?
Btw tested music addon. works great.
If i start up the game and go directly to play *standard game", half the time, theres no fog of war so the entire map is shown. And the other half of times, fog of war is there, no problem... thats wierd?
Update: after further testing its almost as if every second time it works and every other it dosent, as if the game modifies something every time it starts.. and what ever it modifies, its affecting fog of war.

Its the full game files, taken directly from retail disc.
It happens on all maps, and its completly random. Sometimes it works several times in a row, other times its the opposite. Wich makes no sense :)
should i try and enable debug mode? dont know how it works though, but it might show something.

well it is installed in home, as ar all other optified apps, opt is really /home/opt/
Anyway you can move the data and map files to MyDos to free up some space in home.
Here's how:
in xterm
root
mkdir /home/user/MyDocs/fheroes2
mv /opt/fheroes2/files/data /home/user/MyDocs/fheroes2/
mv /opt/fheroes2/files/maps /home/user/MyDocs/fheroes2/
then edit /home/user/.fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg
and change the lines
data = /opt/fheroes2/data
maps = /opt/fheroes2/maps
to
data = /home/user/MyDocs/fheroes2/data
maps = /home/user/MyDocs/fheroes2/maps
and you're good to go.
@mthmob, i have same problem. Before chown its happend allways, now its completly random.
I have all maps too

and all files in the maps directory is also owned by user group users.
If it is, try moving the map and data files to MyDocs as I described in a post above and see if it helps. I can't seem to recreate the problem on my device.
Ok now I have the same problem too.
I might have jumped to conclusions with the full map problem. It doesn't seem to be affected by the ownership of files after all.
Will investigate further. A workaround seems to be to, if you manage to start a game properly, then you can save that. when the problem occurs, load the saved game, and after that you can start a new one. at least for me the new games start properly.

the root of the file manager is /home/user/MyDocs/
so anything under that (e.g. /home/user/ is inaccessible to the file manager.
EDIT using MyDocs to store data files makes the game really slow...

I've already done that, doesnt work. My files are in MyDocs/fheroes2/Music, as I changed the link direct to MyDocs.
Also, when I install fheroes2, it says package broken but upgradeable. Strange... It runs well, but in app manager it's shown as broken.:confused:

@mece: I solved... I moved data file to /opt and everything is working perfectly.
But the engine shown in app manager is still broken, although it's working.
I tested music as midi but it's not working. The problem of ext music is everytime it starts from beginning. But midi is not(from the orginal H2)

sorry to keep asking basic questions, this is a learning experience for me.
Ive got as far as moving the data and map dirs to MyDocs but when I enter edit /home/user/.fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg into the xterm it says:
-sh: edit: not found
Have I missed something?

Scomic, there is no edit CL app in n900. I suggest you setup mc from extras-devel and edit your files there.

The AI is (much) more stupid than original H2, this makes the game much easier. And sometimes there is only one "row" of enemy when fight againest creatures standing on the map. In original H2 there were at least 3 "rows". The roumer from the traven is funny.
The creatures seems more easily to join you. BTW, the music on the sea is not working.
It's great fun to play H2 again! :-)

yep, the sea music seems a little buggy- it just continues playing the current track. even if it's the enemy's turn music. it's also not listed in the /music/README file so it might have just been left out?
i agree about the ai, one issue that i've run into is the enemy attacking the closest target even when there was a ranged attacker a few steps away (this is in hard mode).

Editing config file is really easy with leafpad that you can find in the repositories.
install leafpad, and then, instead of starting it from the icon, just run xterm and type
leafpad .fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg
I'm not saying it's not easy, but it is easier for 90% of people if it's in a package and we just need to do and install..

Heroes2 is not open source and not free so it's better not upload the full retail version due to the copyright.:)
thats a very good point. but surely we could package the config files and stuff? Cause I assume most of us own the game, or we are using the free demo which is legal, but then again I'm 100% clued up on legal law and stuff

I still don't know why occationally sometimes all the maps can be seen. Quite annoying. No clue why it happens...
Found another bug: Is Necromancy actually working? I don't get any skeletons after battle...

If you want the complete game installed all you have to do is copy the content from DATA and MAPS content to the correct places (/opt/fheroes2/files/data and /opt/fheroes2/files/maps) and it's ready to go. No config editing needed.

I think what he / she / it meant is that you need to get the data to the phone somehow. However if you do it via PC on a windows platform you have no access to the OPT folders. So have to fiddle around somehow, either by adjusting the cfg or by copying the folders within the N900 to the right place. Both which is not easy for the 'common' user.

I guess the natural thing would be to default the data folders to MyDocs, but since that really hurts the performance of the game, and installing stuff directly to MyDocs from packages is generally a bad idea, I don't really feel it's a good idea. Perhaps I could use two folders to look for files, having two different paths by default. That way a non-techie persons could install the files to MyDocs if they want.

Perhaps when you install the package it if gave you access to a sh file that did the copying for you , all it would require would be for you to have the files in the correct place in MyDocs and then they would be moved to opt or is this not possible?

thank you guys! I love this game!
the all map revealed problem is debug mode. there should be "debug = off" line in your config file. Perhaps there is some other config file that is sometimes used or something. Really annoying being without the phone right now because I can't test it. Anyway that problem does not appear on a clean install, but I've had the problem and I'm not sure how it appeared.
I've check the fheroes2.cfg file and there is a line that says "debug = off".
I'll have to wait for you to get back to you phone, but thanks for the update.

I've tried new game 2 times, and on the first one it was debug mode (full map + super hero), the second time was ok and I'm currently playing that map. So if you're facing the issue try reopening the game and starting a new map - you should get a correct start one time, and then just save your game.
I also have couple of other issues, not sure if it's only me:
1) Kingdom view doesn't work for me. The one that shows all your castles and mines.
2) Battle options (grid and shadows) are only saved for a single map. So every time I start a new map I need to set these options on first battle. Would be great if I could set these options in some config or if it was saved globally like in the original game.
3) Horisontal map scrolling is triggered when you reach right side of the screen. This makes up+right scrolling almost impossible, as you always end up interacting with minimap instead. I suggest modifying the scrolling to be triggered when mouse pointer reaches left side of right pane.
4) Long tap right click - style seems more usable to me than ctrl+click, but I couldn't get this to work. Tap mode = on in the config wouldn't work. Maybe there is some specific place in the config to put this line? Or this might be some issue in cfg parsing code that also causes debug mode on.
And I also have one enhancement request:
Since all the buttons are kinda tiny it's inconvenient to close windows, especially 640x480 ones that have buttons in the very bottom edge of the screen, which is not very responsive. My suggestion is to implement winow closing on a tap outside of the window area. That would work even better for hero/castle view, since there are areas to left and right that show map view. This would also make the interface more maemo-friendly. In fact I was trying to close the windows by tapping outside of them first, and when it didn't work I suddenly understood it's just a desktop port with desktop-style interface.
First let me say thank you for allowing us to play this awesome game on N900. Its perfect game for such a device. One odd bug I encounter during play:
(Im using HOMM2 GOLD from GOG, data and maps files in MyDocs, config edited, so far I was only testing small maps)
AI problems - AI sometimes breaks and stays on the spot, or repeats same routine (like traveling from obelisk to town over and over again). Seem to be quite random, most easily spotted on Skirmish map.
Repro steps: New Game/Standard Game/ (small maps) Skirmish/set difficulty on Normal, player as Knight (but it shouldn’t matter). Start the game. Visit hut of the Magi (on the right side, visible in the beginning of the game). Enemy position should be revealed by doing this. Now press End turn over and over again. Enemy hero will enter the town on day 7 and stay there for the rest of the game. Same thing happen while playing Dungeon Below (where enemy hero is constantly traveling from hometown to first obelisk).
ok, debug mode bug should be fixed in the newest version in the repositories (fheroes2_0.5-maemo-11) It's currently in the builder queue. Unfortunately tap mode (long click) does not work, but it's next.
Many of the reported bugs, like AI bugs, and are from fheroes2 source, and as I'm merely working on getting the game ported to N900 I don't feel it's my business to muck about in the inner workings of the game right now. The main developers of the game are active, so I'm sure it will be updates coming that we'll use for the N900 port once they are available.
The scrolling and window closing might be something I could take a look at, once I get the long click fixed.

I believe it's pocket pc = on in this version. It doesn't work in the current version, but it will in the next.

fheroes2_0.5-maemo-12 will have longclick for rightclick.

Checked latest version - couldn't reproduce debug mode issue, so hopefully it's gone. Tap mode works like a charm.
Noticed interesting thing - when in battle you tap on a monster you can reach, a popup menu shows up. It contains all possible positions to attack and a question mark. This is extremely cool since it makes aiming with dragons on the go much easier and enables force melee attacks with titans. The problem is that question mark wouldn't show monster stats.
Another interesting thing I noticed is "config" button in start game menu. It contains a lot of useful settings (confirm save file overwrites, in-battle settings) and several useful mods, like buy units from well screen. This config seems to work well, however, it's not being saved upon exit, which makes me sad.
One more issue - I'm not able to input numbers using the keyboard. Not sure if it's worth fixing, unless there are some gate passwords that contain numbers.
And once again, thanks a lot for porting and maintaining the game, I can play it forever, which officially makes my N900 a gaming device.

Another thing that bothers me is that the game exists when i press end turn, lets say 20% of the time. Does that have something to do with the fact that i didn't copy the data files ?

But i cant get campains working. It simply does nothing when clicking it. Is it possible to get it working?

Thanks for the info. I think it's a XL map issue. Two things i's like to add;
When you enter the castle, because the castle view is 640x480, there are margins showing the map view behind the castle view. Can there be something done about it ?
The maps files are mp2 extensions, so i get a lot o files in my music player in unknown section and it bothers me. Can there be something done about this as well ?

well if you move them to opt they won't show up in the music player I think.
If you want to keep them in MyDocs and feel adventurous you can just edit
/home/user/.config/tracker/tracker.cfg
and add
$HOME/MyDocs/fheroes2/;
to the end of line that looks something like

you have to follow the instructions exactly when doing stuff in xterm. A missing / can cause great damage. In this case the left out / only caused an error message though. / before *
If the tracker.cfg stuff doesn't make sense, then perhaps it's best leave it alone or read up on it. There are several threads about hiding files from tracker that might help you. Type tracker.cfg in the search field.

I installed the game to the opt/fheroes2 directory before the .deb package was available - Can I just keep it updated by using the latest version in the repo, installing it with the application manager? Or I need a whole new installation?
Btw, I've played it a lot by now and encountered almost no errors at all. I disabled the debug mode by myself...
I'd REALLY like it if somehow there could be an option to do "Load game" in the middle of a battle, and in the map itself it'd be really nice to have an option to view the treasure map (the one which can be viewed by touching the obelisks).

"Load game" in the middle of the battle wasn't available in original game as well (neither in heroes3), but you can retreat and load afterwards. From map view, you can load by pressing floppy disk button in the right pane.
And you actually can look at obelisks map - this option is under "flag" button in the same right pane.
As for updating the game - I successfully updated the game from app manager, and both data files and game saves survived this update. So I believe you can update from app manager as well.

I'm facing small combat options button issue as well. That's why I requested a possibility for those options to be set elsewhere.
As a workaround, you can set those options from the config menu item under start new game. Then, these options would be set for any map you start until you close the app. This config contains some mods as well - some of them are really interesting.
it is possible to save option in game? i always have to set AI movment off etc... before start playing and it is anoying!

There are couple of options that can be set from fheroes2.cfg (volume, animation speed are the ones I changed there). For all the other options we need mace's opinion.
Why isn't the campaign and kingdom view work ?
I installed fheroes 2 from the repository and it didn't run anymore, so I had to re-edit the .cfg and comment out the lines with the path variables pointing to the maps and data files.
It also renamed my /save directory to /save.bkp, so I had to rename that one too...

Found a buggy bug :)
If playing music with the media player and starting the game (leaving media player minimized in the background), if entering combat screen - the combat never starts: no one gets to start its turn - the game looks like its "waiting" to determine who's going to be the first to make a move, but it just never "decides". The game does not freeze.
Oh yeah, I had that happened to me last week. Thought it was just me. The battle would resume once media player stopped. Anyways, the AI is terrible on this, even on "Impossible" they are easier than the easiest setting on the desktop version. They never try to attack, you can just gallop around right around their castle and take over their resources while they waste half a week before they try to take those resources back. Oh and I found that even though they build up their strongest unit, they rarely use them. Playing the bigger maps, some times I take over castles and find like 30 black dragons or titans just sitting there..

yeah, same error, also same thing as Ikari bout thinking it was just me, also it seems that all of the custom options (the options available in the main menu) are forgotten when i close > re-open the game
i'd also love for something to be done about auto-combat and the option buttons being so freaking close, and so god-damn tiny!!

Hmm not sure if this is just me, but when I attack a castle some times the catapult will fire twice at the same section of the wall. The first one will break down the wall and the second shot will land in the same place and undo the first shot, so it's like nothing happened.

never done this, so I'm just assuming.
You need to have rootsh installed
Connect your n900 to your computer with usb in mass storage mode. The phone should show up as a removable device in windows.
copy the DATA and MAPS folders from the computer to, for example, your Documents folder on your N900.
After you're done copying, unplug the N900 and launch xterm
type root
and copy the files from /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/DATA/ and /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/MAPS/ to the fheroes2 folder like this:
cp /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/DATA/* /opt/fheroes2/files/data/
cp /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/MAPS/* /opt/fheroes2/files/maps/
assuming the folders names are in capital letters in the original game, as they are in the gold edition one.

Don't remember seeing this bug:
Can't update giants to titans. Was playing and bought couple giants, upgraded cloud castle or what was it, and wont give me option to upgrade those. Dunno other races yet. Have the original maps/data while played, those files r where game is installed @.
But absolutely awesome job to bring this masterpiece to n900 users, just love it.
Just keeping up the hope for homm III too... :)
Uploading new version of fheroes2. Unfortunately no improvements to gameplay, only some packaging stuff, and bugtracker link. Thinking I could promote this to testing and see how it goes.

I suppose this is a direct build from the original project located here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/fheroes2/). So where can I see what revision this is build from? And what are the changes? Is it a branch? Hope someone could point me to the place where the work happens.
I was thinking about compiling it from source. If someone already did the job of porting it, I was hoping to use this for reference. That way I'd be able to contribute back to the original project and have better progress in development instead of just using the given code.
Besides, what we already have works out of the box and really nice using the retail data/maps and soundtrack! :) Thanks a lot!

I'm not really working on it so there's no unreleased stuff for maemo. You can download the source from the repository with apt or manually from http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/pool/fremantle/free/source/f/fheroes2/

Mece, I've recently encountered a strange error while playing H2 - When one of my castles is on a siege, and I'm about to finally kill all the attacker's army, the game suddenly closes itself... I can reproduce it with a specific save, and it'll always happen during one of the last turns in this specific combat - though this has never happened to me before.
Could you think of why this is happening?

also changed the .cfg file (music = ext )

Everything works fine with the game (and I have also the other data except the demo) except for one problem:
Whenever the rival party choses to escape from a bottle, the game exits automatically. Has anybody the same problem?
Because I already strategically prefer that the rival doesn't/cannot escape before I beat him (except for certain situations where I have to first wear out the rival by attacking him with little forces, use spells and escape myself repeatedly, until my forces I keep in a safe place (another hero or castle) are sufficient to beat him), it happens to be kind of good, so that I give attention that he doesn't escape, but it's still a bug.

Yes.
This is the same error I've encountered. It has nothing to do with the castle siege. It also happens in the battles outside of the castle. It happens when the opponent decides to run away.
I'm experiencing the same thing - game crashes when the enemy's hero tries to bail from combat...

A new version is coming to extras-devel, this is patched with the latest sources from upstream, and I have no idea how good it actually works (it does start, but I haven't tested more than that) So I would appreciate some testing. The bugs reported here might or might not be fixed. Also, I'm not sure if saves are compatible.
Test it and let me know. (the version is 0.5-maemo-r1916-2 :) nice huh?)
EDIT ok that version number was counted as lower than the previous, so it was cleaned out :/

I can play the demo version just fine but I just cannot, for the life of me, figure out all this rootsh stuff to get it to work properly...

it then says "/home/user #" in the terminal and I try to input the command lines that you have all been suggesting (trust me, I am trying, I just need some personal help... perhaps some professional help once this is all done!! haha!)
I have copied the data and maps files to my phone using the PC suite connection into "documents/data" and "documents/maps".
My question is this... what should I type to a) find these folders in x-terminal and then b) copy them to the correct location.
I'm really sorry to be such a goon about all this, and I know that you have been trying to help other people with the same problem, but following the command lines suggested to other people has not solved a thing on my phone :(
If anyone can shed some light on the situation I would be more than grateful cos right now I am pulling my hair out and working my way to premature baldness! haha!

Oh bugger. I have to go through some changelogs then. Seems tap mode is not enabled for some reason. If I can't find the problem with config, I can hardcode it as a temporary solution. Anyway, I'll get right on it.

Aye! I was using it... Much more comfortable, IMO... I normally use 'Q' as the trigger key, though because of it I developed a tendency to loose the feeling in my left hand's thumb... :D

Both long press and ctrl+click worked the same way in combat: several small swords appeared showing available directions of attack. Then I was able to click on one of those swords to perform the attack.
Now long press shows monster info, and ctrl+click just attacks, like normal click. It's really hard to choose the right attack direction.

apparently this has been changed in source. ctrl-click doesn't exist in the current version, but if you were able to do it without ctrl-click then that shouldn't matter. Out of curiosity, how did you get monster info before?

In most cases I was not able to get monster info. Only when monster was out of reach long press did show the info. This was not a big problem however, since I remember most stats by heart.

The September 18 fixes are not included in the N900 version yet.
I second that choosing the direction is a bit difficult as the tap gets monster info most of the time. Still dunno how and when the direction arrow shows up. I just keep trying darn hard for many times until the cursor becomes more stable and the direction arrow is in place.
Anyhow the game is terrific and is my all time favorite. The hypnotic CD music tenses up the atmosphere (even singing opera in castles!) and makes the game even more addictive. :p
By the way if you are looking for more maps perhaps this place (http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes2/small1.shtml) would be of some interest to you. ;P
Having played HOMM 1 thru 5, i still love HOMM2 the best because of its tunes and fantasy manga like graphics. HOMM3 is a mess due to the explosion of new races (do you still remember how many kinds of dragons grow there?). 4 & 5 are just graphical mimics of WoW and alike with trivial changes in gameplay. Maybe I am too biased, i know that. :D
For some reason my music is not working.
Firstly, I copied my HOMM2 Gold data and maps to MyDocs/GameFiles/FreeHeroes2/data and ./maps folders, then pointed the lines in /opt/fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg (which I noticed was a redirect to /home/user/.fheroes2.cfg) to the MyDocs locations.
Then I took ang's files from 4shared, copied them to my N900, then moved the files to /opt/fheroes2/files/music in xterm, and tried to play... nothing happened at all, no music, just normal sounds.
I then tried ripping music from my disc, removing ang's files and adding my new ripped ones, with no success... I even tried both .ogg and .mp3 (Lame) file types.
I noticed a playmus command option in .cfg, but I didn't find any documentation of it. Tried launching with the command uncommented, and as it is by default, commented out.
My .cfg says this

Okay, it works now... I haven't verified it to be the reason yet, but I renamed my data path to /home/user/MyDocs/Games/fheroes2/data and ~./maps, and redirected the .cfg to point there instead of the default ones I previously tested on purpose.
I also deleted the music I previously saved in /opt/fheroes2/files/music/ and replaced ang's files with ones I ripped myself. They were in previously, but didn't work for some reason.
I didn't even get to hit CTRL+Backspace when trying out your instructions, it started playing music just fine. Maybe I forgot to try something with those, maybe music = ext wasn't set back then.
Big thanks anyway! Time to play some good oldies.

I haven't played for a while and now I have noticed that I am not able to load my previously saved games as they are not shown in the Load dialogue. If I begin a new game and save it for later playing, I see the same behaviour, not any saved game is shown in the load dialogue.
I'm using a pristine PR1.3 and latest version of fheroes2 from the repos. The previously saved games are still in my .fheroes/save folder, but the new created ones are not there.
I have checked permissions and ownership of folders but I have no clue about what is happening.
Can anyone provide me some help?
How about uninstallng and reinstalling the game?
Or perhaps try apt-get purge fheroes2 (back up the saved games first)
The game runs perfectly on mine, including the decent music.

I just happened to be developing in scratchbox when I got the email about your post so I compiled and ran the latest upstream on my device and it seemed to work. I didn't actually play, just checked that longtap etc worked. I uploaded the new version to autobuilder, so please report any (new) issues you encounter. Package should be there in 25 minutes.
EDIT: Apparently build failed :/ I'm investigating.

A new release r2693 is available for fheroes2. We are being left behind.
I was able to build the revision 2764 using scratchbox und play the game in the scratchbox under Xephyr.
I installed libsdl-mixeroggwav1.2-dev instead of libsdl-mixer1.2-dev. I used make RELEASE=1 WITH_AI=simple
to compile. It was not necessary to change the sourcecode. This version supports right click emulation out of the box. It is possible to enable this in the game.
How can i proceed? I have a working version, but i dont now how to build a deb package and upload it under fheroes2 under devel.

Hi, first of all thanks for this. Packaging is not so difficult and once you have a working .deb, uploading to the repos is the easiest part. There is a complete Wiki about how to do it here (http://wiki.maemo.org/Uploading_to_Extras).

after installation, you have to do the following steps:
Copy your data into /opt/fheroes2/data
copy your maps into /opt/fheroes2/maps
If you upgrade fheroes2 then you have to move the content from /opt/fheroes2/files/data into /opt/fheroes2/data and the content from /opt/fheroes2/files/maps into /opt/fheroes2/maps
If you upgrade copy also /opt/fheroes2/fheroes2_default.cfg to /home/user/.fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg
In order to enable right button emulation, start the game, click on new game and then on config.
Below is option
pocketpc: tap mode
enable this.

Wow! that was fast, congratulations.
I'll test it as soon as possible and provide you feedback. However if this is going to be promoted to Testing at any time, you should provide an upgrade path for current users with a postinst script that checks and moves all the related stuff.
Edit: Upgrading from previous version throws error:
error setting ownership of './opt/fheroes2/files/music/README'
Because I had all data, maps and music symlinked to MyDocs, so I can override it easily.

If you replace your links by normal directories, then it should be possible to upgrade.
I updated the package and now everything should work. An uprade from 0.5 should work automatically.

Apparently version maemo-5 overwrites data and maps directories. I had them symlinked to MyDocs (from /opt/fheroes2) and the symlinks were replaced by empty directories.
Besides, I'm not able to play any music. I had the music files in ogg format in /opt/fheroes2/files/music (symlinked) but nothing is played.
Apart from that, the game runs perfectly. Thanks.
If you edit the file /home/user/.fheroes2/fheroes2.cfg and change
music = ext
then ogg music should work.

Seems that with latest upstream release 0.6.2826-maemo-1 previously saved games cannot be loaded and the game closes unexpectedly. Maybe an upstream change and thus, a won't fix.

Apart from the inability to load saved games with previous version, if you start a new game, all saves have a file size of 0 bytes. They are completely empty, even autosave file, so it's not possible to save any game at all.
Besides, in battle, moving the cursor to attack an enemy seems more difficult than in previous version (keeping same config with PocketPC mode ON). The sword icon that appears after moving over an enemy is not clickable, you need to move the cursor over the enemy and drop the stylus right after the first appearance of the sword icon.
There seems to be a bug in the code. I uploaded the newest version of fheroes2 (2840). You can also check your folder rights
ls -la ~/.fheroes2/save
I can save and load using version 2840.

It wasn't a permissions issue, apparently something went wrong in one of the upgrades and everything was messy, including the config files.
Anyway, I made a clean install and everything works fine again.

For some reason this version does not work too well for me. I cannot "peek" into opposing armies of castles, On my n810 hover over an enemy force works just fine. In the latest version the sound also stopped working. The battle screen is also better on the N810 version, it is easy to move instead of attack, I've lost more than one battle because of this. Splitting forces is also buggy, sometimes the slip windows appears beneath the hero's wondow, so I cannot see or access it. Also a mayor bug in buying, it always calculates more as possible maximum than the actual, like I have 4500 gold and want to buy green dragons, 3000 each, it displays 2 as possible even thou I only have enough gold for one. This is the case with every thing. Honestly, the N810 port is way ahead in terms of usability.

With this latest build the combat screen is really slower, even overclocking at 950 MHz. It doesn't happen always, maybe there is some effect that is triggering the slowdown.
Could it be something in the build options? or in the configuration?
