It's possible to watch a movie about things that happen in front of your n900's lens while you do that ;)

Seriously though, I think it's technically possible; but data transfer speed may be the bottleneck if you try to record and play at the same time.

You.can definetely record video and do somethimg at the same time. ;)

You could use gst tools and mess about with the options. Something like

gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video0 ! video/x-raw-yuv ! ffmpegcolorspace ! avimux ! filesink location=whatever.avi

will record to whatever.avi, and you'll still be able to use your phone.
