[Sygic Maps] Israel Maps - Solved!

Although officially Sygic for Maemo does not have maps for Israel, I found a work around that works!

You will need to have Sygic for Maemo installed and a copy of Sygic Israel Maps for any other platform (I have used Sygic 7.71.5529 for Symbian and Windows Mobile). Follow these steps in order to add the Israeli maps:

1. Connect your N900 using a USB cable in MASS STORAGE mode.

2. From your Sygic Israel folder, copy the following to your N900:

- /MAPS/isr to /MAPS/isr on your N900
- /MAPS/Israel_English.mlm to /MAPS/Israel_English.mlm on your N900.

Note that the name of the file may be different so make sure you are copying the right file. Also, please use the Israel English maps. Hebrew maps work fine but I have not managed to get the keyboard layout to present the hebrew characters yet so all addresses needs to be in english.

- /Res/Voices/Hebrew to /Res/Voices/Hebrew on your N900
- /Res/Voices/Hebrew2 to /Res/Voices/Hebrew2 on your N900
- /Res/skin/hebrew.lang to /Res/skin/hebrew.lang on your N900

3. Disconnect your N900 from the USB cable.
4. Run Sygic Mobile
5. Switch map to Israel_English (name varies per the .mlm file you copied)
6. Activate if needed.
7. Note that you can change the interface language to be in Hebrew and use a hebrew voice for the navigation.

My HW keyboard works fine with all other applications but in this case.
i think the problem is generic to all languages - the change language button is grayed out.

yea already installed thanks now i just need to get the maps which i do not have.. i installed this one before and it would always close the second i started up the app and it did the same right now but after three four times it became stable for some reason and running fine now.. just without maps so if you could send me some maps or link me to them it would be awesome.

It should be noted that Sygic's folder is /home/opt/sygic/ (At least on my phone), so you should put the Maps and Res folders there (Also, it's capitalized as "Maps" and "Res", but I haven't tested if Sygic is case sensitive).

well it works great, but I noticed a glitch, when looking for a poi,the keyboard is still in english only, any idea???

Hi, try this:
It should be noted that Sygic's folder is /home/opt/sygic/ (At least on my phone), so you should put the Maps and Res folders there (Also, it's capitalized as "Maps" and "Res", but I haven't tested if Sygic is case sensitive).

You can only see files that are in /home/user/MyDocs in mass storage mode. You need to put Maps and Res in your MyDocs, and then copy them to the correct path using the terminal. I did that with Midnight Commander, but you can do it with two commands very easily (Do it at your own risk, of course - What worked for me may not work for you!). Open a terminal (Ctrl-Shift-X), and enter these lines: (Remember to disconnect the phone from the computer first so it can see MyDocs)

mv /home/user/MyDocs/Maps /home/opt/sygic
mv /home/user/MyDocs/Res /home/opt/sygic
You will see a few warnings about not preserving permissions, that's ok as far as I know. Note that the Linux filesystem is case-sensitive - Name the folders "Maps" and "Res" and not "maps" and "res".

Yup, having the same problem. I'd rather go back to MM9 if I still had the mm9 application deb file...

Before you install the version 10, delete 3 folders from the:
/home/user/MyDocs
The forders:
Drive
Maps
Res

And one folder named Sygic from: /home/opt

After this, install the v 10, put your maps and run script...

Okay, so I got it running but I can't seem to change the keyboard language to hebrew. I selected the hebrew keyboard in the options but it still shows up as a qwerty keyboard when I want to type in a location.

go to this section, copy what you see in this code and replace in your orig file...

Don't change the language in the app menu...

Can't really get it to work.. The keyboard just shows up blank.
Maybe it's because I'm trying to edit it with the windows wordpad and it's not formatting it correctly?
Would you be so kind as to give me your application.skin file? Like, upload it to rapidshare or something? I would appreciate it a whole lot if you do that for me (and for those who are having trouble too) :)

If you have WINSCP - it's easy way for editing this file...
You can edit this on you phone too...
If you use wordpad, create copy of your orig file and open it, after changing, save this (not save as..). If you use Save as, try the "Unicod text document" format...
If you can't I upload this file later..

I installed the version and copied the files to the appropriate folders created by the deb in MyDocs. It ran and complained about the maps not being activated. So I ran the script and now it just doesn't load them. I can choose between Israel_Hebrew and _English but nothing happens...

I tried both with the full one and the demo one and have tried removing the files between installations (/opt/sygic and the folders in MyDocs). Any suggestions?

For the normal hebrew text on the map, go to Menu and change the menu to Hebrew...

I can write in hebrew only in country choice. when I choose any country (israel olso) I have english only (roman) keyboard without option press "globus" to change lang...
I was "playing" with application.skin... no changes. It looks like after entering to country sygic have some other keyboard settings. there is only roman.

Although officially Sygic for Maemo does not have maps for Israel, I found a work around that works!

You will need to have Sygic for Maemo installed and a copy of Sygic Israel Maps for any other platform (I have used Sygic 7.71.5529 for Symbian and Windows Mobile). Follow these steps in order to add the Israeli maps:

1. Connect your N900 using a USB cable in MASS STORAGE mode.

2. From your Sygic Israel folder, copy the following to your N900:

- /MAPS/isr to /MAPS/isr on your N900
- /MAPS/Israel_English.mlm to /MAPS/Israel_English.mlm on your N900.

Note that the name of the file may be different so make sure you are copying the right file. Also, please use the Israel English maps. Hebrew maps work fine but I have not managed to get the keyboard layout to present the hebrew characters yet so all addresses needs to be in english.

- /Res/Voices/Hebrew to /Res/Voices/Hebrew on your N900
- /Res/Voices/Hebrew2 to /Res/Voices/Hebrew2 on your N900
- /Res/skin/hebrew.lang to /Res/skin/hebrew.lang on your N900

3. Disconnect your N900 from the USB cable.
4. Run Sygic Mobile
5. Switch map to Israel_English (name varies per the .mlm file you copied)
6. Activate if needed.
7. Note that you can change the interface language to be in Hebrew and use a hebrew voice for the navigation.

Some questions:
* What version of Sygic you using ?
* Have you tried to change the language to hebrew in the "keyboard menu" with orig file ?
* Have you tried to NOT change the language to hebrew in the "keyboard menu" with edited file ?
* Have you tried to press on the globe inside the keyboard ?

I'm attaching the original skin file that came with this version (I zipped it).
The globe besides the space bar doesn't work, and I also tried all the things you mentioned...

DON'T check the "hebrew" keyboard in the "keyboard menu", stay only with QWERY...

You got it wrong. I have a Nokia N900 and would like to install a virtual hebrew keyboard as well as Israeli maps that are not accessible in my Nokia. I related to Sygic because that what I found. I am not interested to modify no software, If there is a fee I am ready to pay.

Now Sygic don't have Israeli maps, and you can not buy this, sorry... Only old maps from 2009..
