This Engadget article shows how to stream any video to any system with VLC installed on it. The next app to be ported could be VLC but CPU issues may stop it working.

I Just read the guide on engadget it seems the 770 will be a perfect remote for VLC, I don't have my 770 yet, but setting up an VLC stream with a web server as control was really simple.
The next step would be to stream to the 770, has anyone tried that? Is it possible with the current software?

I quickly tried setting it up as http stream. It seemed to work in the sense that nokia tried opening the stream, but said that the stream wasn't compatible. I tried dropping to 128 kbps video, 64 audio, mp3 for audio, mp4 for video, also with mp1v and mp2v as well as H263 and I263. Video res was 0,25 all the time. Anyway, I wasn't very successfull. It may be due to the video capsulation. But as I really don't know about the inner workings of video codeks, I'm not trying to start guessing either. Probably someone at nokia would be able to tell us easily what gives.

Tried again with streaming music with it. It worked when using RAW as encapsulation method and transcoding to mp3. Then just open the stream in the audio player. On the very bright side, it also works for the home view audio player.

Very neat to be able to control it all through the web browser.

Hi kontorri,

I have the same "problem" with vlc then you.
If you have found a solution with vlc and video streaming settings by now, please let me know.

Hi mrp,

http://download.videolan.org/doc/
There you will finde the docs "VLC Streaming-Howto".

I did http-Stream.
But for audiostream I realy love Slimerver.

If it still does not work I will write down my settings.

I allready tried http streaming with raw encapsulation and encoding mp3, but I allways get message that no audio stream is being found at the given address. I've checked the ip of 770 in my lan switch and directed stream to that ip and tried several different port numbers. Please write down your setings as I (have to admit) normally use windows XP

hi mrp,

Here are my settings/howto:

Open VLC
file>open file...
tab file: press search, point to your mp3, open
bottom left check streamoutput, press settings
check http, I leave adress blank and use the port 1234
bring the radiobutton to raw
check audiocodec: mp3, bitrate 192, channels 2
ok

Now its streaming and you can access it through the nokia audioplayer.
Nokia ausioplayer choose stream address (my localhost is 192.168.2.2 in my network)
http://192.168.2.2:1234

(Just to make sure...
If not configured, the firewall blocks it, norton antivirus wormprotection blocks it.

When I first got the 770 about two weeks ago, I couldn't figure out how to stream audio - I didn't care for the AccuRadio top-40 choice. I tried a bunch of things, like copying shortcuts from DI.fm and opening up playlists. No luck.

Then I tried the "old way" - go to Shoutcast.com, find your genre, (which is Trance for me, as a developer), and simply click on the Listen Now button. It will "seem" to try to download the pls (playlist file), or something, and you simply choose "Open", (not Save) and it will stream the playlist/songs directly into your 770. Works perfectly, every time.
