Today i bought JoikuSpot Premium to share my internet connection from N900 to my Laptop.

I installed the program on N900 and started it.

Then i searched for wlan with my laptop and ofcourse i found the Joikuspot wlan from my n900. I connected to it and tried to surf the web. But it didn't worked. I am connected to JoikuSpot from my laptop and have full signal strengh but i have still no internet.

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Can someone help with this??

Are you using a custom kernel? (Titan's for example)
If so open terminal, type root, then modprobe JoikuSpot_Bouncer
When you're done sharing your connection type modprobe -r JoikuSpot_Bouncer

The stock kernel doesn't have that bug/problem.

ad hoc wifi is tricky, I used the symbian s60 version and could get all kinds of devices to connect but not my lenovo x60 running windows xp.

I have also purchased joikuspot for n900 and I now can connect said computer without issues. I have noticed though that problems arrise if the 3g coverage is not good, I mean that joikuspot seems to not always work at all where the n900 browser works only slowly.

Try updating drivers (ofcourse) and try using Windows' native wireless manager instead of your adapter's propriatory manager, or vice versa.

Same problem here. I also purchases Joikuspot and had no luck in connecting through WiFi. Network setup is ok but I can't open webpages for some reason. Might be ISP related but I haven't tried much.

Close the connection (properly - wait for it to display the summary), go to terminal, and as root redo the command (only the modprobe JoikuSpot_Bouncer one) then hit Share Internet.
It worked for me (not from the first try though)

Edit: oh and it works on the leaked firmware, someone tested it (not me - still on 1.1.1(.5)ish)

Thanks for this. Just bought Joikuspot, and ran into this problem. Loading the module by hand fixes the problem for me.

I also went on, and figured out why the autoloading breaks with custom kernels. The joikuspot package (naturally) includes the bouncer kernel module, which is installed in /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/ . However, syslog reveals that JoikuSpot tries to load that module when it's started, but fails because the module has wrong kernel version info.

By copying the module from your custom kernel's modules (/lib/modules/2.6.28.whatever/) over Joiku's default one (remember to backup the original!) the automatic module load and unload works. However, this operation likely has to be repeated whenever updating/switching kernel, or updating JoikuSpot.

Tried with 2.6.28.10power27 kernel. I only recommend this for people who are comfortable moving files around using command line, that's why I won't post the exact commands.

Hi everyone, i have the same problem, when i start joikuspot and i connect the ipod the kb grows up, but it says that the internet connection isnt found.

I don't understand the codes probably, cause when i have inserted them, the terminal says : FATAL: Module Joikuspot_Bouncer not found. (with the code: modprobe Joikuspot_Bouncer)

I have the kernel titans ideal. Someone can help me telling me step to stpe how to do?

Have a nice day

EDIT: Sorry, it was cause when i gave the command i miss the "S" in Joiku"S"pot.

Sorry sorry sorry :D

I've also found I sometimes need to configure external dns servers on my laptop as name resolution via Joiku is sometimes flakey.

OpenDNS servers:

208.67.220.220

Hi
I have a similar problem. Joikuspot worked fine prior to the recent n900 update. It also seemed to work fine, though took a few tries to connect, during the interlude between my downloading the recent N900 update and the most recent Joiku update. I am just a regular N900 user and I do not want to mess around with root, etc. Nor do I think I should be required to do so for something I paid for. So I wonder if there is another way to deal with this problem. My compter indicates that I am clnnected to Joiku with an excellent signal. Thanks in advane for your help.

I hit this problem with the custom kernel, however there's more to it than just the module

I got extremely poor performance with jokiuspot -- we're talking mostly dropped packets and occasional 3000ms ping -- to all intents and purposes it doesn't work.

Going to try the free package before deciding whether to go back to stock kernel (currently using the -37 titan kernel)

I was in the middle of trying to resolve this issue with JoikuShop customer support.

I used the two lines of code supplied by MohammadAG and it works and works well. This is from my desktop while tethered using JoikuSpot. This is really quite good.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/852299697.png

I've suggested to JoikuShop that they add a subroutine that detects which kernel is active and to have the code lines as part of the startup-shut down routines of the application.

I also had this problem only after i updated for some reason. I havent fixed it yet because didn't see this thread until now! You guys are awesome, However before i go about doing this All i have to do is go to terminal, be in root and type what was posted earlier?

If so does it matter if i already have Titans Ideal/LV on? would that be a bad thing to do? should i go back to stock Speed before i do this transition? And/Or is it any different for anyone for any specific reason? Im ready to get my Joikuspot fixed. I thought i lost my moneys worth, so any help would be greatly appreciated by you guys.

Thanks in advanced.

I am usually overclocked to 805MHz, I did not 'declock' before I entered the first line and everything worked when I ran JoikuSpot. I've had no instability (on the N900, my personal life is another story!) Failure to enter the second line one time did not seem to cause any issues. I believe this is a worry free sort of thing that will not interfer with other functions. That has been my experience.

I also tried to enter the lines of code using QueenBee widgets but that didn't have the desired result. Too bad, that would save a lot of code entering over the long haul.

Until JoikuShop takes my advice messing around in root to the extent this fix requires means having to be extra careful about typing and reviewing what you've typed before hitting the 'enter' key. You:

open xterm
type sudo gainroot 'enter'
type modprobe JoikuSpot_Bouncer 'enter'
close x-term
Case sensitive so be sure to watch for the capital letters. After you are done with JS:

open xterm
type sudo gainroot 'enter'
type modprobe -r JoikuSpot_Bouncer 'enter'
close x-term

Practice typing it in a note program or Conboy to build your confidence. I wish I could cut and paste from my note program to x-term but that doesn't seem to be possible. I'm kinda, sorta fearless when it comes to entering short pieces of code. The longer scripts are what scare me off. I'm too awful of a typist.

Wait a sec then. You are telling me that everytime i am OC'd i have to type the first batch of lines to use JSpot and then after i am done i have to essentially put it back? is that what the code is pretty much doing? If so what happens if i do not put it back? will something happen if i turn of my N900? or if i go back to stock kernel?

Is this mainly for the kernel then Because if i always use the same kernel will have to put Jspot modprobe back? I am clueless in this area BTW >.<

If you follow workaround guide from post #8 (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=665912&postcount=8) then you don't need to do any additional steps before or after using JoikuSpot. Working with latest Titan kernel (2.6.28.10power37).

Cool The only thing i need to learn how to do at the moment is how exactly do a back up of the original. (i am assuming you need to back it up just in case of some accident or when an update happens to either the kernel or Jspot). I did it the manual way and my Jspot works now i just dont want to have to turn it off like that all the time but i guess i can just remember the code lol.

JoikuSpot is working OK with Titan's new kernels (v37, v38 & v39).

Is Joikuspot Bouncer loaded OK? Start JS and check whats dmesg says in xterm.
dmesg | grep Joiku

If everything is OK, then shutdown JS and try to restart it.
Sometimes JS is not creating connection properly (I don't know what might be the root cause), but restart has cured the problem.

Use JoikuSpot_Bouncer from Titan's kernel package (see couple mails above).

When ever Titan's kernel version is updated, then you have to replace JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko to fix the problem.

Dmesg gives to me following response.
JoikuSpot Bouncer Kernel Module init

Where exactly is "there" ? Because I don't see how the N900 could be transmitting any Ad-Hoc network name when the wifi radio is not in ad-hoc mode at all (like for example when you use it to connect to some other wifi network). You other devices might remember having seen such Ad-Hoc network and thus retain the name in case you want to create Ad-Hoc network with same name on that device for whatever reason.

I'm sure the problem is that the laptop remembers gthe connections, remove them from the "known connections" list and see what happens, alternatively turnyou N900 off (remove battery for good measure) and observe that the laptops still see the connection even though now it's definitely not originating from the N900

To be fair this is how Ad-Hoc networking works; anyone is free to create a network and the OS will allocate an IP from a private range "commonly used" for such things (ditto when connecting to a network and not receiving DHCP reply), then the machines can use Bonjour/Zeroconf to discover each others services and start talking.

It can be a bit confusing though if the OS remembers ad-hoc connections it has sometime connected to (vs created), OSX for example doesn't do it (but if my N900 goes down while my macbook is connected to it, it will [as per spec] keep the ad-hoc network running on it's side [possibly losing the N900 DHCP assigned IP at some point).

Well with the solution to copy the kernel it works "ok" now, though the internet connection could be better. I can surf for 2-3 minutes, got a quite big lag then and can continue then again. So its still not so good as a USB / BT connection!

The connection to the phone itself is fine and it works even as LAN router without any lag (10MBit~). Just the internet connection is still not good working yet.

If you have any "stability" issues with your Joiku connection or simply a very slow connection then there is an easy solution:

Just run a permanent ping from your N900 to the connected PC/NB, that way the connection "stays alive". It seems to be an issue with the WLAN power management of the N900.

It would be even better if we could disable the "WLAN Energy Save Mode" for the Joiku connection, then such a ping wouldn't be required and reaction / speed would be even better. I tested that with my router connection and SSH / SFTP, the speed / reaction difference is huge! The terminal is running so fast and smooth <3

cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/user/

- gain root rights
Code:

sudo gainroot

- remove old file
Code:

rm /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko

- copy a new from kernel's modules
Code:

cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/

That's it.

EDIT: You have to do this always when either kernel or JoikuSpot is updated to a newer version.
When I do the last command "cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications"

It says /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko does not exist.

What should I do???

Are you using Titans Power Kernel?

What do you get if you write
ls -la /lib/modules/current

whats so good about joikuspot compared to mobilehotspot?

i use mobilehotspot everyday, wich is free and never have any problems.

wich made me think joikuspot is a waste of money when mobilehotspot is free.. but maybe its better? since people use that instead? confused :)

Personally I don't use JoikuSpot too often, actually I don't even remember when was the last time.

This is just a good option for laptop/etc... to have an access point when no free WLAN available (i.e. when travelling...). Mobilehotspot might be better, but never tried that one. Don't know about others.

Edit:
Thanks for this little push to check Mobilehotspot ;)
Installation is easy and it seems to work OK (editing now via Mobilehotspot connection).

ah I guess I installed the wrong one? I installed the 'enhanced linux kernel for power users'

also mobilehotspot always says failed to start. so not having luck with either joiku or mhs

Nokia-N900:~# ls -la /lib/modules/current
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Dec 31 1969 /lib/modules/current -> 2.6.28-omap1

Hmm having an issue here. i uninstalled the enhanced kernel and reinstalled via app manager.

After I reboot I still get

ls -l /lib/modules/current
/lib/modules/current -> 2.6.28-omap1

So it seems as tho power kernel isn't installed? Tho I ran the install from app manager with no errors...

Could this be due to the NIT droid dual boot I have?

I notice the NITdroid no longer works ever since I uninstalled/reinstalled enhanced kernel

Try via terminal:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install kernel-power-flasher kernel-power kernel-power-modules
apt-get install kernel-power-settings
and then boot (power-off) the device.

Thanks, those commands went through. I rebooted and still get

ls -l /lib/modules/current
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Dec 31 1969 /lib/modules/current -> 2.6.28-omap1

Any ideas?

What do you get from
uname -r

It should be 2.6.28.10power46.

And directory listing from
ls -l /lib/modules

You should have there at least two directories + link to current
2.6.28-omap1
2.6.28.10power46

Forward is on your own risk:
If so far everything is OK, you could changes linked directory manually.
sudo gainroot
cd /lib/modules
rm current
ln -s 2.6.28.10power46 current

If you are not succesful or do not want modify link file, send post to Overclock the N900? (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39753) thread. Author of Power Kernel (Titan), most probably can help you. I don't know does he read this thread?

I installed the enhanced linux kernel for power users via app manager a few days ago. I rebooted and ran those commands. Any idea where I went wrong?

Nokia-N900:~# uname -r
2.6.28-omap1

Nokia-N900:~# uname -r
2.6.28-omap1
Nokia-N900:~# ls -l /lib/modules
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 7600 Dec 26 13:07 2.6.28-omap1
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 19640 Dec 26 13:07 2.6.28.10power46
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2088 Dec 26 13:07 2.6.28.NIT.06
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Dec 31 1969 current -> 2.6.28-omap1

should I run that last command? ie.

sudo gainroot
cd /lib/modules
rm current
ln -s 2.6.28.10power46 current

Don't run last set of commands!

Please, post your problem to Overclock thread.
You seems to have files in place, but kernel was not changed.

Edit:
You might want to try this one:

How can i reverse this.....

- back-up JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko to /home/user
Code:

cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/user/

- gain root rights
Code:

sudo gainroot

Code:

rm /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko

- copy a new from kernel's modules
Code:

cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/

Ever since i did this my internet has become painfully slow? The first 2 command lines worked for me so i'll just keep using them

The terminal is running so fast and smooth <3

can you show me how to run a permanent ping thing and how to disable the wlan enrgy save mode for the joiku connection? thanks

I am having this problem too. I have restarted my device a few times but it still doesn't work. I should have done it right. Went to X-Terminal, typed sudo gainroot, then modprobe (space) JoikuSpot_Bounce. Word for word, letter by letter ensuring Uppercase were applied for J,S and B but i got a "FATAL: Module JoikuSpot_Bounce not found". I have tried keying in root instead of gainroot and i stil get the same error message. Please help!

Okey when i tweak or replace the file with joikuspot bouncer i am not able to use the faircrack,

so is there a way to change some thing on the file with which i could use both joikuspot and faircrack.....

tuxsavvy

Most likely the file that you use with joikuspot bouncer is not compatible with lxp's wl1251 as lxp's wl1251 uses compat.ko which brings up to a specific kernel version that joikuspot bouncer's kernel module is not understood for that specific wireless portion (due to the compat-wireless).

Your best bet is to contact the maintainer of joikuspot and see if he can port a kernel module for you to use with lxp's wl1251.

Here are step-by-step guidance, but it is on your own risk.
Open x-term and type these commands:

- back-up JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko to /home/user
cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/user/
- gain root rights
sudo gainroot
- remove old file
rm /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko
- copy a new from kernel's modules
cp /lib/modules/current/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/
That's it.

EDIT: You have to do this always when either kernel or JoikuSpot is updated to a newer version.

great master,

i am very thankfull for ur solution. it worked nicely, but i updated the kernel just a few hours ago and now i m stuck. even ur special kungfu isn't able to solve the problem and the modprobe thing just tells mi that there is no such module...

very strange.

kernel is powerkernel v52.

if u have a quick fix, i would be very, very thankfull, my sifu.

best regards

Your device probably rebooted overnight. Installing a kernel isn't enough. You need to reboot after the install. ;)
