Hope someone can please advise...

Been trying off and on the past few days to get the Maemo 5 SDK installed on my laptop running latest Ubuntu 10.04.

Using the GUI SDK Installer app <maemo-sdk-install-wizard_5.0.py>, I get as far as step 4/9 'Installing SDK Targets', then it always fails when it gets to part:

Running apt-get update on 'FREMANTLE ARMEL'.
Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/sdk Release.gpg
Temporary failure resolving 'repository.maemo.org'
Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/tools Release.gpg
Temporary failure resolving 'repository.maemo.org'
Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fremantle/sdk/Release.gpg Temporary failure resolving 'repository.maemo.org'
Failed to fetch http://repository.maemo.org/dists/fremantle/tools/Release.gpg Temporary failure resolving 'repository.maemo.org'
Reading package lists

The installation process was unable to run 'apt-get update' inside the installed targets in order to update the local package database.
This could be due to an error in network configuration inside scratchbox.
Common causes are incorrect proxy settings and the 'hosts' line in /scratchbox/etc/nswitch.conf.
For the 'hosts' line in /scratchbox/etc/nswitch.conf the following should usually be enough:
hosts: files dns

Once network issues have been resolved, you should run the installer again.
V [14:33:12 26.05.2010]: Failed to install SDK

Is this problem have anything to do with new PR1.2 release or just server issues or ???

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Just use Nokia Qt SDK (with MADDE).

It works like a charm!

Running SDK fine on Ubuntu 10.04. This seems to be a network/DNS issue, are you running any firewall etc on your machine ? How about adding an entry for "repository.maemo.org" in /etc/hosts and trying again ?

Thanks for your help....

Can you clarify what the entry should look like in /etc/hosts?

Should it look like this:

92.123.72.74 repository.maemo.org

Thanks....

I get two addresses if I do a nslookup for repository.maemo.org:

92.33.33.169
92.33.33.136

Having one of those in your /etc/hosts just as you showed above might very well give some result. And perhaps whatever service that is used for DNS by maemo.org should be chcked to see if it can cope with the onslaught.

Hmmm....interesting, Joorin....

I got numbers that I showed when I did IP lookup...

I did try what I showed and the good news is that installer can connect with repository during install process...but the bad news is that I'm still only getting part way through step 4 of 9, when at some point install process gets too many errors, fails, and stops install....

Should I 'start fresh' with install somehow? ie, remove whatever has been installed so far and then try install? If so, how do you that?

Or any other ideas as to how get installer to work? Really bugs me that I can't get this installed!

Thanks!

Not sure if it has anything to do with your problem, but I tried updating the SDK to PR1.2, and it get stuck on the update window step. Happens since yesterday.

Well, maybe there is something going on with Nokia servers????.....and thus maybe it's not me screwing things up for a change.... ;)

Just upgraded the packages on my SDK and it worked without any problems.
OS is Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit.

Hmmmm....well, glad to hear that your install went well, MohammadAG...

I just tried again, and now it won't connect to repository again....

Everyone, are you using the 'standard install' or 'customized install' option? I've been using the 'customized' option...

Also, after getting partially installed and then trying again, installer says "The fremantle armel and fremantle x86 targets already exist, please choose appropriate action.' Gives me 2 choices; 'create new ones' or 'overwrite existing targets'. I've tried both ways and doesn't seem to make a difference in end result...

Any suggestions??

Hmm, I didn't do a clean install, I just upgraded my existing SDK.
But to answer your question, I've never used the GUI installer, I went for the scripts instead (since I can actually resume downloads there).
http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/Maemo_5_Final_SDK_Installation
Can you try using those?
Also refer to the Ubuntu 10.04 notes (http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/Maemo_5_Final_SDK_Installation#Installing_Maemo_5_ SDK_on_x86-32_Debian_based_distribution), hope this helps.

Funny, you mention this, as I decided to uninstall and then reinstall using the manual approach per then wiki...seemed to go a bit smoother...but as you can see in my post above, still have problem downloading nokia-binaries nokia-apps......

Any other ideas???

UPDATE

Decided to try installing the 'X86' 'nokia-binaries' and 'nokia-apps'.... apt-get install worked for these!......

So, assume there's some sort of server issue for the 'ARMEL' stuff.....

Just tried to get the FREMANTLE_ARMEL nokia-binaries nokia-apps again this morning....

Same problem as yesterday, get '404 Not Found' error message...

Anyone able to get through to server and get these files?

Any workaround for this or do I have to just keep trying periodically??

Thanks.

weird that it worked for x86 but not armel
can you verify that your /etc/apt/sources.list in x86 matches the one in armel ?
maybe you just did not add the required sources for armel environment ?

Thanks for your help, patate....

Yes, it is weird....but when you accept the EULA on the Nokia website it ONLY gives you ONE repository source line to add to both the armel and x85 sources list, so, 'same address' for both targets....

I checked the armel sources list again and it matches the one shown on the EULA page and which did work for the x86 targets.....

Just very strange....tried it again and still get same thing '404 Not Found...'

UPDATE: Finally success!!!!

Turns out that I put 'nokia binaries' instead of 'nokia-binaries' in the armel sources list line....so, just a missing hyphen caused all this aggravation....maybe at least this will help someone else save some time and energy....
