SMM10: normal soon (it's nearly finished, testing and ironing out the bugs, prepare everything)

Aura is coming, too. Nokia soon. :D:D (I don't have my test version, yet.)

yes, the upgrade is for both Ovi store users and Sygic online shop users. try to serve both at the same time.

and yes, of course you will have to pay for Aura. it is a totally different application, targeted more at social networking and not navigation.

edit: forgot: maps will be updated for free, but it is also possible to use smm9 maps.

But please, please and please with sugar on top: tweak the application to stop the lag or minimize it. Sygic consistently lags behind the actual position on all platforms I have seen it on: Symbian, WinCE and Maemo.

No point in having great looking UIs or rendered maps if the main point of the application - tell you were you are accurately - is compromised.

...and for those having the temptation to say "works fine for me" rest assured that I have seen PLENTY of devices from my friends and not only before making this statement.

Yes, for Maemo it improves when you mod it, but it still hiccups/lags a bit.

In my opinion there is something up with the rendering algorithm code (across all platforms) that we are trying to compensate with the tweaks/mods.

Wouldn't it be better for Sygic's awareness to be raised and the chance to make changes to the rendering code to be made? ;)

Obviously there is a bit of rethorics here because it is too late for such type of changes to make to Mobile Maps 10 but Aura... maybe there is still hope... :)

And those who say "perfect" have to look a bit around (not elegant from me to talk about competitor names...) to see what perfect looks like.

With the mods, it minimizes the problem and makes it... usable. But it still lags.

...have to take a look with my external bluetooth (Holux) and see if it improves the accuracy in any way but as I said, the problem is not in the positioning but likely in the rendering

this is really strange, because for some it works and for others not.
for me it works perfectly without having to mod anything. no lags, nothing. but I don't have random reboots, dead pixels, a loose usb port or any other flaws either.
a friend of mine is experiencing lags all the time. it got way better after modding. also he had random reboots before pr1.1 and so on...

I read somewhere about TomTom on the Sharp Zaurus, ripped from a TomTom device (they're running on Linux).
So theoratically it should run on the NITs, too.
Maybe this would be a project for you?

Darn it, I saw the mobile maps 10 package in the repository and when I tried to download it, it conflicted with 9 which was installed.

So I uninstalled mobile maps 9 and then attempted to download version 10... It looked good for a second or two and then gave me the error saying that the deb file could not be found, crap!

So I located my original deb file and installed it again - whats crap now is that its the original file not the update that sygic released a little later, so gps locks appear to take a little longer and it does not auto rotate...

Fingers crossed that version 10 comes soon, if not I wish they would put the update back into their repository!

If you follow the upgrade instructions on the sygic website, once you have installed the repository, version 10 does appear in application manager. You just can't install it. So for Permissions, it's Sygic who are publishing the links.

Also, I purchased version 9 from the Sygic website, but the confirmation e-mail told me to download it from OVI. Having done that I can't get the update for auto rotate and fullscreen support either.

I contacted Sygic technical support about it and they also told me that version 10 is due soon. That's not much help for my holiday driving next week though.

I had the permission and the video online even before Anna (PR from Sygic) knew that there was version 10 for maemo :D

I haven't found it and it is in the standard Sygic repository so I'm not doing anything against Sygic.

BTW, was wondering what the odds might be of Sygic talking with the guy who made the Advanced Geocaching Tool for the N900 about allowing his app to export a POI to Sygic so that you could find your intended geocache and then head to the nearest road to it before getting out and trudging through mud etc.
That would be an awesome feature for both AGTL and Sygic. No iPhone or Android phone yet supports that feature to my knowledge.

I was under the impression that it hadn't been fully beta tested yet.

Any one installed it? does it work? does it use all the maps that can be installed on Sygic 9? do you have to uninstall the old version before you install the newer version or is it a sophisticated update?

Sounds like a good idea... So Sygic guys, here I am. Give me an interface (dbus, command line argument,..., and I'll implement it. I can provide the application with geo coordinates (in the format of your choice).

I agree that this is frustrating. Why does everything N900 related have to be sooo sslllooowww. Every release is fraught with problems and delays and I have yet to see a stated date or timescale estimate deleivered withing 4 weeks of what was promised. - Auto rotate orientation bugging out the application.
- Names for companies entered in the Maemo contact list, not being shown in the mobile maps contact list.
- Some more random crashes during routes.

This all on a basically clean installation of Maemo 1.3.

I have never had these issues on my N900, and Sygic is certainly better than Nokia's efforts. I think we should just be thankful Sygic developed a decent maps app and i think it is too much now to expect any further major developements for a forgotten os.

there are two .pak files and only one .wav file which is "test" voice

what i think we have to extract audio from .pak file then change it to my voice> and then compress it or change it to .pak back

but question is how to??? i searched the net to extract .pak but could not find anything working......... has anyone done it before?????

Have you tried going into maemo settings, choosing location and then checking that enable is unticked under Network positioning.

If you go to settings on your N900 and then Location, you can disable network positioning, i think it worked for me

I'm still investigating the requirements for this download. I'm trying to install it on a replacement N900 for my wife although she'll probably never use it. By checking on my first N900, I worked out to put the Drive, Maps and Res folders in MyDocs before installing the SetupMobileMaps.deb file.

When I run the program it asks me to select a Map, but only offers me Europe. If I select that I'm told SMM10 Europe is not activated and puts up the activation screens. It's at this point I'm getting stuck. My product code is rejected but whether this is because it's a different device or because my original purchase was for UK and Ireland maps and not Europe I can't tell.

From my experience so far I can say that this is not a free copy of Sygic mobile maps 10. You will need to have previously purchased a valid license.

I did a manual activation at http://www.sygic.com/en/activate and was able to enter my product code and device ID (IMEI) number. I received an activation code but it was only for UK and Ireland as suspected.

Now I need to work out how to get SMM10 to offer me UK and Ireland maps or persuade sygic to give me a Europe product code.

In the Maps directory are files ending in .mlm (e.g. Europe.mlm). These files control what maps you are able to see in SMM10. by copying the "UK & Ireland.mlm" file onto the new device, I was able to activate it using the manual activation code I generated earlier. SMM10 is working fine now.

If you are already running version 8.16 then I wouldn't bother using these maps. Otherwise if you accept the risk, backup everything and give it ago.

Install the old version (the one that is around 90MB)
then copy the directories "Drive", "Maps" and "Res" to your PC.

Now uninstall the old version, install the new version.
Then copy te 3 directories from your PC back to your phone

Done!

Edit:
More easy way is just to download the full package that you can find over here (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1116914&postcount=127)

After the download, just replace the old deb file with the new one and you're ready to go!

Does the newest version fix the typing bug? (you cant type in almost any other app when Sygic is running in the background)

hay, yeah you can install the DEB File in Maemo - just open file manager and click on the file.

Does anybody know, what does this mean ? Old v8.16 worked normally. I don't need Nav right now, so I have a time to resolute this, but if i get mad about that, I will revert to 8.16
