"The true Nokia N900 successor, the first Nokia MeeGo phone, is likely to feature a 10-megapixel camera and a capacitive touchscreen, say the latest reports."

Thanks Luz.

I will be quite relieved if Nokia announces a Meego successor to the n900 that's built along the same lines - as much GPL code as possible.. no DRM garbage.. no restrictions.. full libc, GNU toolchain, X11..

The n900 is the best electronic device I've owned in the last 10 years (as a Unix admin) and my worst nightmare is that they abandon the concept like Sharp did with the Zaurus.

AHA now the news is starting to creep out, i knew it would not be long before we find the N900 replacement.

Thankyou to the OP for this.

It is not a replacement. It is a successor.

I think Nokia sorta confirmed the next couple of devices will be capacitive.

I agree, I really do love my N900 and if a replacement/sucessor was released along the same lines in the 2nd-3rd quater of next year I would def consider a purchase. And with new OS may come the polishing of the end user experience many crave....

Is it just me or do I see no actual reason to believe any of this? No leaked screenshots, no mysterious devices being found in bars or anything else, just two men and their unfounded rumours. I'd take this 'news' with a pinch of salt.

How much bull**it is that? Is N900 officially MeeGo phone/successor? prove me please. Did I miss something?

Well, we know there is a n9 and the n9 will have MeeGo. it is safe to think that the n9 is the n900's successor. I doubt you need pictures for that

Thought it might be a better idea to hijack this thread instead of starting a new one but does anyone know of any upcoming phones that could make a good replacement for the N900?

In the UK, needs to be a slide out QWERTY and have a decent CPU, dual core will do.

Any ideas?

is that available in the UK? Can't find it on any network providers.

+ stipulation: Needs to be available on contract ;)

The only replacement is the N9.

A satisfied N900 owner should not migrate to another company and a totally different OS.

It's a big change in both the company's and the Operating system's philosophy.

N9 might have some shortcomings (compared to the N900) but it is a revelation in many other aspects (mainly in how the OS works)

the N9 is not my ideal replacement for the N900 at the moment, I want a new phone not something a year old else I might aswell stay with the N900.

I also want a flip out QWERTY keyboard. Samsung glide would be a much better option but is not available in the UK, not that I can see anyway.

@immi.shk lol thanks ;)

My solution so far has been to get N9 as my primary phone and for the missing features to buy a mini 5inch tablet from a chinese company running android. I use the mini tablet for car GPS, FM transmitter and all the things you can find in the android market that are not in the N9. So far, I stopped using N900, although I will keep it as that precious minilaptop that brought me to Linux and made me want to learn more about it. Before I was purely a Microsoft windows sheep. Now all my computers have a Linux distro as primary OS. Thanks N900 for opening my eyes! Shame Nokia did this to you and your progeny...

I do love the N900 but I wan something with a little bit more kick to it and I feel like I am being left behind what with all the apps out for android. I don't want to be carrying around additional devices, I want one to do it all. My N900 does this job fairly well so there is no turning back ;)

As I said a QWERTY keypad is a must for gaming and typing. I wanted a droid/milestone 4 but alas it got fairly crap reviews and still hasn't made it to the UK. not one single flip out QWERTY so far this year and both HTC and sony have released a load of phones!? Where is the desire Z replacement or the soney xperia mini 2?

I have two unlocked N900's and I really like them. One purchased new from Nokia in August 2010 and the other purchased new from J&R Music World on February 2011. Last week I purchased the new unlocked BLU Studio 5.3 Android for $255 with free shipping from Expansys. I put my SIM card in it and I am getting used to it. Everything works, navigation, messaging etc. I even loaded FBreader and all my current ebooks that I am reading. I know there are some compromises but the phone just works like it is supposed to and it goes days and days with the 2500 mah battery. I miss using my N900's but I will not get rid of them as there really will never be a mobile like then any time soon. Cheers mates !

this forum could really use a button in reply posts pointing to the post on which that post is replying, seen it on couple of forums and it is a shame that we dont have it here
