I'm sure I read of a fix for this but I can't find it now it applies to me!

I've just replaced my battery and now the icon is always showing 100%. Battery eye tracks mah and mv fine, but likewise shows the percentage at 100.

Anyone know why, or how to fix?

Sounds like you replaced your battery with a 3rd Party Battery.

I have the same issue - Official battery level works fine but i can't get my 3rd party ones to work they show full all day then when they do run out they drop instantly down to the red.

That explains it, maybe. It was bought as a genuine replacement, but it was very cheap :D

It works fine otherwise. And I bought two batteries from two difference sources to guard against this. I'll charge the other, see if it's better.

Ta.

And it cannot be fixed because BME is closed source.
Vote for this bug (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9314)?

I've had this problem (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9789) for months with Mugen 2400 mAh battery (http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/nokia/nokia-n900/mugen-power-nokia-n900-2400mah-extended-replacement-battery-with-battery-door.html?r=22).
Only reliable way to know when the battery would need to be recharged is to follow the voltage level in BatteryGraph. When it gets close to 3.6V, I know I have little time to recharge.

Be nice to get this solved although ive seen this in countless devices I've had previously to the N900.

Actually I'm beginning to think that this is a genuine Nokia BL-5J. I can't tell the difference visually; the hologram's the same. And it charges up to 1200mah, appears to last all day (I'll have a better opinion of that after the weekend).

How annoying is that?

I've let the charge on the thing drop as low as I dare, and now I'm going to fully charge it and reboot the box -- because I vaguely remember that that was what the original post (that I can't find) recommended. I suppose as long as battery eye tells me what charge it has, then 'annoying' is all it is. But, still.

I have the exact same problem. My battery seams to be orig Nokia too, its a little shorter thoug. As soon as I put the unit in it was delivered with I get all statistics back in battery graph. I had the bad unit in for some days and fully charged and discharged it. Rebooting didn't helped either.

@CutterSlade: One might almost think it was a deliberate feature?

CutterSlade, shadowfirebird, anyone of you have a digital multimeter?

For the sake of completeness / posterity:

The *other* battery I bought, *also* as far as I can tell genuine, works fine.

So if you get this problem, don't give up.

the batteries have different discharge curves. cheap batteries usually maintain certain voltage and it drops to 0% almost instantly when there is no juice left.

it is deliberate feature yes, but from 3rd party cheap battery manufacturers....

@ Firebird, the batteries you bought are not genuine. Last month i bought the same. from some where in china. there are 4 ways to see if its an orriginal.

1. you can check the code underneath the black strip and check this on the nokia website

2. the holographic sticker you see is an old one. the genuine one with the n900 has a slightly different holographic picture.

3. On the back of the battery there should ONLY be printed made in china. i had something like "made in china assembled in .....(country)

4. and last but not least, you can remove the black paper/sticker from the battery. batteries from nokia n900 are made by samsung. if it is not printed underneath its a replica.

PS the golden battery 1950 mah is actually a 1200 mah battery. if you remove the golden cover from the battery you will see 1200 mah is printed underneath.

Last advise i can give you. if you really want good stuff spend some more money and be sure to buy it from a trusted shop. else 90% of all the batteries you buy online on ebay or other sites for cheap are ALWAYS replica's. Some will indeed work, but other fail or have a poor quality.

Hope this helps
