How to get Wargus (Warcraft II) working.

Well it is obvious from many PM's that a lot of you aren't fans of reading:p (it isn't a short thread to be fair) - so I am going to create a new thread (I hope the mods don't mind) to inform you how to get Wargus to run Warcraft II;

Step 1: Install Wargus and Stratagus (Strategy Gaming Engine)
Step 2: Use Wargus (http://wargus.sourceforge.net/) on your PC to extract the data files from the Warcraft II CD (Not Battle Net Edition)
Step 3: Copy that data directory to your N900 and rename it "wargus"
Step 4: Put that directory into /opt/stratagus/share/

You should have all your Warcraft II data in /opt/stratagus/share/wargus/

Now click the icon for "Wargus" and play Warcraft II on your N900, this worked for me. I hope it works for all of you.

It would be helpful if someone could upload the Wargus Data Directory to save everyone from Step 2 (PM me if you have a link to this).

I never plaid Warcraft II before so I don't know if it is running how it should, but it seems to work fine. I personally miss Starcraft.

how can i copy the files im trying to use emelfm2 since i had my files in the mmc and its telling me i do not have permissions also stratagus is no longer in repositories

You might need root access (install rootsh and type sudo gain root in xterm) to copy. Someone else will chime in to answer your other question I am sure.

You'll need to run emelfm2 as root, or use "cp (http://freeengineer.org/learnUNIXin10minutes.html)" from the command line as root instead. And stratagus is still in the extras-devel repository (according to this (http://maemo.org/packages/view/stratagus/) anyway).

Try running "/opt/stratagus/bin/wargus" from X terminal and see what errors it gives you.

I had the same problem - in the end I had to download the latest stratagus (http://maemo.org/packages/source/view/fremantle_extras-devel_free_source/stratagus/2.2.5.1-1maemo1/) & wargus (http://maemo.org/packages/source/view/fremantle_extras-devel_free_source/wargus/2.2.5.1-1maemo1/) source code (I've no idea where the version 2.2.5.1 comes from, as it doesn't exist on the upstream sites), compile them, and re-run the CD extraction on my Linux PC. It seems some functions have been added/removed between the versions.

If you're on Windows then I've no idea what you can do - possibly there's some combination of the files from the wargus .deb package and the files extracted from the CD which will work, but I couldn't find it.

cp if you want to copy them, mv if you want to move them, you you could use a program called Midnight Commander (get it from repos). Try to keep questions on topic to get Warcraft II working for everyone.

it worked for but but when i chose to start the game, it crashed :D, no ideas. the file seems to be small

I cant seem to get this to work? It says it cant fid the data dir, where should it go and is it case sensitive?
I have it in /opt/stratagus/share/wargus/data

If you drop that folder into /opt/ wargus will crash. It doesn't include the files wargus installs, only the game data.

After reinstalling wargus I got the game up and running. It seems to work fine starting a regular game but it crashes when I try to start a campaign.

the stratagus.zip worked for me, but as another user stated previously - not until I reinstalled wargus/stratagus after copying the data to /opt. Posting the procedure I followed in hopes it may help someone (not to clutter up the thread):

oh yeah, it also worked for me, but I can only play scenario :( i wanted to play campaign mode. Any one have the full data file for the campaign :D

Tried to sort out campaign mode...

Found out it was looking for files called "level01h_c2.sms" etc rather than "level01h_c.sms", so copied all my files with that name, and now it gets further and shows me the campaign objectives but then crashes with wrong map size and seg faults...

Think it's an issue in our version of wargus, i can play campaign fine on my pc with the same data folder...

In order to get campaign mode to work, remove whole 'campaign' directory and copy there only stuff from link posted before.
It seems that data from devel is somehow messed up a little.
Campaign works just fine for me.

Ok, easier way. You have to delete every *.sms (not *.gz!) file from 'campaigns' directory.
sudo gainroot
cd /home/opt/stratagus/share/wargus/campaigns
rm -rf */*.sms
just be careful with deleting stuff around.
I'm assuming you have campaign data from post #18 in place.

has anyone a german or us version of warcraft? would be nice because my uk/canadian version couldnt be unpacked in installation process. its a bug. i can not find one of these versions in the web. can someone give me his functioning version. would be very grateful!

I downloaded about 20 Warcraft 2's and neither of them can extract. What I am doing wrong? I get error while extracting data files. I put them on MyDocs/WAR2, setup detects data file, i click OK, phone freezes and after minute i get error.
