my phone seems to switch between 3G and 3.5G a bit too often and this seems to slow down the overall download speed.

i was wondering if there's any way to disable 3.5G to avoid this issue?

Thanks

settings > phone > network (Network Mode) > tap GSM

or

install 3G/2G applet

your n900 is always on 3G because:

-your n900 needs it often
-your network service provider may have no support for GSM signal for n900

I never get 3.5G signal ever. All I got is 3G on mine. Where my brother N97mini get 3.5G no idea why.

3G and 3.5G are probably using the same radio, so I doubt you can turn off 3.5G and use only 3G.. it probably just has to do with what network coverage is available in your area.

I'm just guessing here...

The use of 3.5g isn't hampering your download speed its the switch to 3g which reduces speed. You'll find many answers to related questions here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access)
Hope this helps

My phone goes from 3g to 3.5 and I have the 2g/3g app. I have my phone on 3g and it still goes to 3.5g all the time but i never had any problems, so installing this will not stop you phone from going to 3.5 , at least thats my experience ..

your joking right 3.5g is faster than 3g and you want to turn it off it seem like your speed is dropping during downloads because its going super fast at 3.5g but when it switches to 3g its a good bit slower its the network not your phone

i know 3.5g is faster but it really feels like it stops downloading for 5 to 10 seconds every time it switches back and forth and that happens way too often. i'd rather have a slower but stable connection. anybody knows how to do it?
