Just got my n900 and am having problems getting the Launch by turning feature to work. I checked the Launch by turning box in the Turning Control menu. I also set the display orientation to automatic. But the phone won't launch when I rotate the phone and when I open the phone, it always opens in landscape no matter how I'm holding the phone.

I'm pretty sure the accelerometer is working. I installed the eyes widget and is working fine.

Also, the same thing is happening with the browser too. It stays in landscape no matter the position.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you tried other apps? Does Opera or MicroB(with setup) turn normally in portrait position?

However, in my case this function is not that useful at all. Mine is too sensitive which launches the phone in most inappropriate time; and when I want it to launch, it takes 3-4 seconds to react.

May be you should install ShortcutD app and set it to portrait mode with camera button :)

Otherwise please reflash :D may be because you just "FFFFUCCCCKEEED" the phone app up by some unstable apps.

What do you mean by reflash? The other thing I installed was the eye widget.

Now it's just acting weird, it'll switch to landscape when it placed on the kickstand, but it'll switch to portrait when it's laying flat.

seems like your accelerometer is stuck.

Any suggestions on how to get it unstuck?

Try reboot and take the battery out for a while to let the power die out and start the phone again. Otherwise give it a smack on the back a couple of times for being naughty :)

or Alternatively reflash the device to jump start the accelerometer again. Sometimes it just doesn't like to calibrate. But reflash will fix it.

try test it with healthcheck app.

Tried healthcheck. It shows that the accelerometer is working. The values change as the phone moves.

I guess I will try the reflash.

I did the reflash yesterday, but still having the same issues.

Any other suggestions or is it time to contact Nokia?
