Obscura is happy with either version of Python. Once other Python applications run on the device, obscura will run, too.
The first release had a bug on the N800 and does not start when there's no external memory card inserted. This will be fixed among many other things in the next release.

Is there a newer package of obscura?
This seems to be a very good application to showcase the value on N800 as a personal photo album and a digital camera companion :]

Why do you want newer package, does the one out there work for you? Or do you just want the newest features?

If you're just impatient you can grab updates which have not yet been included in the install package from subversion. Mostly just get the updated python files.

That program and quiver are both great for the purpose you described.
