metasploit require': no such...

Greetings,
I am trying to get MetaSploit working on a n800 for a friend of mine. I have installed already:
Ruby 1.8.5-p35
rubygems 0.9.2
sqlite3-ruby 1.2.1

though when I run msfcli I get error
./msfcli:11:in 'require': no such file to load --rex (LoadError)

I'm great with windows and Mac environments but have only gotten into Linux just briefly.

I would be grateful for any assistance.

does msfconsole work?

make sure you are using msfconsole as root.
Also try chmod +x msfconsole and than execute
./msfconsole
