i replaced psfreedom.ko with anray's build and it doesnt boot backups at all. Anyone else have this problem??

i testet for 24 hours the new .ko file for omap1 and I noticed that that only way to start a game is to start this over /appz/gamez/. If i put a Blu-ray Gameinto the PS3, its don't change to the game i selected in the Open BM.

My reasoning is that the BD-Emulation is not patched to this new .ko file...

Do you have this problem, too?

It can not work on n810. I'm using maemo5 sdk and kernel 2.6.26-omap1, but for n810 needs maemo4 sdk and kernel 2.6.21-omap1

Some game updates use lv2open to check the disc’s param.sfo to make sure the right disc is in the drive and the check fails because psjailbreak patches only patch the vsh open, as such a lot of patches will ask to “insert” the disc if you are playing from a backup, I don’t care much about backups myself but for the sake of it and because some people may actually do a legit use of them, here is the patch : in 3.41 lv2 at offset 0x5745C change to li %r31, 0

I was looking for a way to get rid of the "No Controller thing in F1 and here is what i did:

1. I heard that Hermes v3 was compatible with the patched mode in open manager and so downloaded the Hermesv3 fix from here

2. Then i un-installed the enhanced linux kernel using the De-install app in the appllications. I had to do so because i heard that the new hermes v3 was only compiled for the regular nokia kernel

3. Then, i replaced the psfreedom.ko under /opt/psfreedom/omap1 using win scp and renaming the hermesv3 as psfreedom.ko

4. Then i jailbroke my ps3, but tried to press R2 to enable patched mode but nothing happens.

Please help me get the patched mode on my ps3.

oh yeah, you don't need to deinstall enhanced kernel if you have multiboot ;)

Thank you so much. I have used the ko file you had linked and now i can get to the patched mode in the open manager. however when i load the game it goes back to the original game in my ps3. i read earlier in this forum that we need to start the game from app_home/PS3GAME....how do you do this?

you dont need to insert cd with hermes v3, start the game in app_home/PS3GAMES, and with patched on , i dont think you will notice anything except on the screen say on and off.

u cant dual boot kernels, u have one or the other, not both...... u gotta deinstall the power kernel from the programs menu

was it your ripped game ? or downloaded it online ? if it was online then maybe it was bad game, or an old backup game, if you dont mind ,format the HDD, start over again. jailbreak, install latest OMB then try again. it should work. when you start over to install OMB again, the first screen will comes up asking what is ur first folder to start your games,press yes and yes..

TIP: this release doesn't support start and play over BD-Rom. Don't forget that somegames only can start with BR´lu-ray in ps3...

If you would like me to assist in this anray, I can try. I would hope to have it ready for the power kernel, so I can do that if needed. Not sure what the procedure is for this though. I will see if I can get the SDK installed over the next couple days... will require a bit more commitment than I planned, figures I would think about this right when I have an exam coming up.

One question if anyone knows... where can I find an ubuntu desktop image that has it all installed already. I see an ubuntu server one here (http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php), but that does not include the whole environment according to this (http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php). Getting this running in virtualbox would likely save some time.

Hey guys. Thanks for all your help. Finally the game worked.

Here is what i did and you should try this if you have the "no controller found" games.
Delete all versions of backup managers first
Install only open manager. Mine was 1.16
The open manager automatically installs the game to OPEN folder instead of the LAUNCH folder which is used by the other backup managers.
Delete any game user date for that specific game if you had tried to install the game earlier.
Now follow the steps by patching the open manager and launching the game and launching the game from the /ps3_Game folder instead of the regular bluray disk.

In Kakaroto's instructions:
To compile, first make sure that the pl3 submodule is correctly fetched and compiled then

Got an ftp prog and a backup manager on a usb stick ready to install on the PS3, but after going through the boot process on the PS3, I don't see any install option!

I'm almost done with the C++ version of the app, only the help section is left, and it includes working LED support (not CPU intensive as with the first method I used, red when the jailbreak is started, green when the jailbreak is finished)

Stock kernel 3.10

- Installed PSFreedom
- Updated the psfreedom.ko file to this one LINK (http://psx-scene.com/forums/558741-post106.html)
- Shut off the PS3 by using the switch at the back.
- Connected the N900 to the PS3.
- Ran PSFreedom, clicked the Jailbreak Mode On button.
- Flipped the On switch at the back of the PS3.
- Pressed the power button and then immediately pressed the eject button.
- Heard 3 short beeps as the PS3 started to boot.
- Scratched head and looked at black screen. :confused:

I put it in /home/opt/psfreedom/modules/power40 and no luck, also tried just in modules and in psfreedom. Unfortunately none of these worked, they did not even show any messages at all when I clicked on "kernel messages".

I am for sure using the power kernel (I am overclocked), so that is not the issue.

Any thoughts?

Kakato's PSFreedom with PL3 is the latest right now.
The whole scene is changing fast, hermes v4 (last version from him) just came out but I think PL3 will be the new standard other developer will stick to. Who knows?

If anyone can post a working guide on how to compile PSFreedom for the N900, it would be great help since it is changing so quickly.

I'm just "translating" I'm not saying I agree with him. But I do agree that hermesv4 is not necessary and we should all stick with PL3.

Also, as a developer, is really tedious to have both separate environments for stock and power kernels. That's why it's hard for you all to see releases for power kernels. We're lazy and even lazier for things we don't use. I don't use power kernel myself and I don't really feel the need to overclock. Battery is sacred.

Can someone update me on whether the latest version of PSFreedom supports the updated payloads .. ? Or do we have to do some manual procedure for updating PSFreeedom 0.3.3 to use the latest Hermes v4b payload ?

Why would KaKaRoTo, the developer of PSFreedom, would update his application with a Hermes payload instead of his PL3 payload? And he bashes Hermes' payloads all the time, he hates them.

If you want to use Hermes payload, you'd have to compile them on your own and replace original psfreedom.ko with that.

If I had know before I did it, I would have remain using the disc for the 31 days, and then if no one had figure it out a way around after that, I would then have had an extra 31 days with both option secure, and then probable go with netflix+ps3.

But as right now, I'm thinking maybe I should give some time an see if anyone find a work around, the thing is if I do give time, I will be sacrificing netflix. I probable will give in to update way sooner then 31 days, thats for sure.

Have anyone of you successfully launched a game without a disc inserted?

I'm using PL3 and hermesv3 payloads. I'm also using Gaia Manager RC9. When I launch using "Direct boot" option in Gaia Manager usually the game complains about corrupt save data or corrupt trophy data. All games work perfect going back to XBM and select the disc (with a disc inserted).

^^^ i suggest you uninstall and reinstall everything. then get the PL3.ko file and put it in:

/opt/psfreedom/modules/omap1

use gaia manager and everything should work

Ok, this is the only idea I have. Have you tried deleting the netflix data from the HDD (if any). There might be something there.

ok, im having trouble launching a game, specifically my backup game streetfighter 4 and nba 2k11 both needed controller sync payload,

i have successfully executed ./psfreedom-enable.sh from command line,
however, upon lauching the game both nba and sf, i starts into a blank screen and freezes.

That is a good idea. I dont know where the configuration file for nextflix is stored but it might work if someone deletes that file.

I tried to reset all the settings of the ps3 and tried to use the disk, but agian it asks me to install the app. The next step is to do a clean factory restore which will remove everything on the ps3's hard drive. Do any of you think it will work if i do a factory reset? Let me know. I dont want to lose all my contents in the hard drive of the ps3.

i got it working for sf4 and nba2k11, a combination of the right .KO and openbm, most of my non 3.42 games also work like blur etc..

how i got it working...
i have reflash my n900 to the stock kernel
ive installed psfreedom gui from extras-devel
replace the .ko in "/opt/psfreedom/modules/omap1" with the pl3 .ko
opened openbm.1.17.2
start sf4 and the rest works...

however i can see that it freezes sometimes. compared to the older open backup manager and power kernel ko's ...

another thing is. maybe the reason it didint work the 1st time is because im using the commandline to lauch ng psfreedom (./psfreedom-enabled.sh)

when i switched to gui program everything work smooth and easily,

i hope this helps for others also.....

Okay i understand what psfreedom is now, Its an easy way of installing the files. The only thing is i cant even install the gui version because of some strange error "applications package missing libibqt4-test(>=4.6)

I follow this:

Using the Terminal

* Make sure you have the 'rootsh' package installed from the Application Manager. If you don't have it, then install it.
* Open the X-Terminal application
* In the terminal, type 'root'
* type 'wget http://psfreedom.com/w/images/1/17/Psfreedom-n900-1.1.tar.gz '
* type 'tar -xzvf psfreedom-n900-1.1.tar.gz'
* type 'chmod +x n900-n8x0/psfreedom*.sh'
* type './n900-n8x0/psfreedom-enable-maemo.sh' to enable PSFreedom.
* Follow the instructions on Using PSFreedom to run the exploit on your PS3.
* Once you are type, type './n900-n8x0/psfreedom-disable-maemo.sh' to return the phone to its normal behavior.

Once you are done, you will be able to repeat the procedure simply by opening the Terminal, typing 'root' then running the ./n900-n8x0/psfreedom-enable-maemo.sh script.

Great idea. I have noticed that some games which were ripped with pl1 do not work with hermes v3. So i had to replace my hermesv3 file with an older one. If i had the ability to choose between the .ko files that would make it very easy for me to play F1 2010 & Cricket 2010 at the same time.

Congratulations to MohammadAG, his work is amazing.

Even though I'm still using my N900 to jailbreak (and MohammadAG's software), I'm considering buying a USB dongle for that. The fact is that a PS3 is just $300 and it's sold everywhere, but a new N900 is above $500 and is really hard to find if you break your USB connector, even though the connectors in the USB cables are filed.

In summary, if my PS3 breaks down I buy another one, big deal... but if my N900 stops working (or its USB connector for all that matters), I could face a sudden death.

Also, considering that an upgradable PSJailbreak USB clone is just $20, and that payloads are always released to those devices first, I think it's the smart move.

hmmm, i dont notice much of a difference, i still cant play moh without it prompting for 3.42, still cant play any rockband via usb, still have to use a ps3 game in the drive to play a backup..... everything seems the same, guess i gotta wait till i get my 750gb hdd in the mail to get off the usb..... not blaming u mohammad lol, you did an amazing job on ur part...... just one question though, would it be possible to have the n900 green led turn off after the jb? or even have it switch back to regular mode so it can charge instead of having the n900 sitting there draining battery?

Hmm, I only tested the green LED once, it should turn off on its own after turning off jailbreak mode or closing the app.

If you own a N900 you should file the teeth of the microUSB connectors of your cables, otherwise you'll end up with the USB socket of your phone falling off.

Since the USB port of the N900 is extremely delicate, I bought an Amazebreak device (one of those zillion clones of PSGroove) for like $20. I updated it with Hermes v4 and works fine. The N900 is too expensive to plug/unplug it to the PS3 thousand of times in my opinion.

To play without a disc in drive, first you select your game in your backup manager, it goes back to XMB, and then select the option "/apps_home/PS3_GAME" (just above "Install Packages"). Are you doing that? because it took me like 2 or 3 days of intense forums reading to figure that out.

I noticed that PR1.3 has a bug with QTextBrowser, black text on a black background, sadly, I didn't have the proper tools to check if this will be present in the final release, so I decided not to file a bug report, and even if I did, Nokia decided the leaked Week 36 image was stable enough, and they released it (I wonder who does testing at Nokia...)

Anyways, solved it with setStyleSheet(QString::fromUtf8("background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"));

I'll push an update tomorrow that has the modules compiled against the PR1.3 kernel.

What psfreedom-enable-n900.sh does, without the extra modules detection.
If the same modules work with power37, I'll add them in the latest version.

Two of my games don't work as backups, but that's probably an issue with the payload and hopefully gets fixed in the future. Other than that this thing works wonderfully, I especially like the fact that the led turns green when finished :)

Does this rely on 1.3 (or anything else that I may have missed)? I cant seem to install it on 1.2 here. I get the error message;

No worries! I have a UK N900 so I will not have the 1.3 update for a while yet and am not confident enough to flash a Global firmware on it.

I just thought to add some more info here: I personally use Gaia manager and it works quite well. Just Google for it, the most recent version at the moment is _v1.3_.

Place the PKG-file at the very root of your memory stick/USB drive/etc, and select "Install package files" once your PS3 is running. It doesn't find those PKG files in any sub-folders, only the root. From there on it should be quite self-explanatory :)

There is apparently a jailbreak for 3.50, but it requires butchering one of the Sony-branded sixaxis controllers and lots of electronic components and soldering. Ie. it's not suitable for anyone but people well comfortable with such. I would try it myself, but I don't want to upgrade my PS3 just to try it :D

And afaik, the jailbreak with the sixaxis controller is just a chip soldered on the sixaxis, it won't work with stock controllers.

No, you can boot PS3 with PSFreedom with or without any game inside. Just unplug the PS3 from mains, plug your N900 to it and enable jailbreak mode, then plug PS3 into the mains, press power button and quickly the eject button and wait until the led turns green on your N900. Then you're jailbroken.

i jailbroke my console about 3 weeks ago, but i ran out of space on my 40 gig, so i swapped out the hard drive with a 320 gig to back-up more games, but now the jailbreak won't work. i've been using the PsFreedom800 app for jailbreaking, and it's been working flawlessly, but now, it won't jailbreak the ps3 for some stupid reason. i'm running 3.41, and i've also jailbroken the ps3 using the same exact 320 gb hard drive on a test run, before i swapped in the 40 gig, so i have no idea why it won't work now. has anyone else had this problem? any advice on how to fix this? :/

I have only been a PS3 owner for a week or so now, so I don't really know all that much. But have you tried formatting the new drive with your PS3? Or re-install 3.41 firmware? I don't really know what else to try :S

I'm having a problem installing PSFreedom 0.5. When i try to install it the phone tells me that it can't install because it's missing application packages "mceledpattern" and "alphathemefix". I installed the mceledpattern package without any problems, but when i try to install the alpha theme fix package the phone tells me it's unable to install it because of an incompatible application package. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is just a GUI for the PSFreedom payload. The actual payload has different developers. You might wish to ask on psfreedom.com

I'm in the same situation - it is a bit annoying that no new games (where they are almost all 4.50 i.e. MOH & COD-BO) are not compatible with PSFreedom.
Hopefully the next update (big hint here ;)) of PSFreedom will include Hermes v4b!!

It's not a kernel module you need to replace. The kernel module only outputs the .bin file to the PS3, and it's the .bin file that does the actual jailbreaking.
