Don't know about the cheapest, but the holux models are reasonable ($60-80) on ebay from reputable sellers. I bought a 236, and it works great. Search on this forum for the list of known working bluetooth GPSs. I guess I'm always a little leery of the "cheapest", and would rather pay $10-15 more for one that I know will work and is decent quality.

I bought a unbranded unitraq BT-5321R bluetooth GPS receiver from geeks.com for $32 USD. I have to mess with it a bit to get it to work with maemomapper, but once it gets a gps fix, it works fine. it's really small and has decent battery life, so I can live with it.

1 battery, 10 hours of life (energizer...)
excellent pair for the nokia and it is TINY.
I use it all the time.
It runs on 1 AA battery
and comes with a cigarette lighter plug~usb power converter
(the power cord to the GPS is USB, but you can power it with an AA and utilize the lighter USB to power the N800's usb host mode WHEN the kernel arrives... ;)

plus, it has bat-wings on it
and the free included vent-mount can hold your cell-phone OR your Nokia pretty darn well.

Hi

I got this Navicore one from here (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/12398.htm?id=7246.htm) £30. SiRF III. Though they are now selling a slimmer version than the one I got. Works fine with maemo mapper.

I picked up a Holux GPSlim 240--(same as the rebadged Navicore gumstick size)--works great with Maemo Mapper and Google Maps.

(I Leave the GPS plugged into a second power outlet of my car.)

Navicore? "We don need no stinkin' Navicore!"

That looks like it will serve my needs. http://www.clicksmilies.com/auswahl/ernaehrung004.gif

I want to pick up a second one to hardwire into the car without worrying about frying an expensive battery.

How's the sensitivity on this thing... I mean; does it have to be in view of the satellites by mounting it under a window, or can I tuck it out of the way a bit?

At first I velcro-ed it to my dash, and it's hookup time was 3 or 4 seconds.

Then, I started hiding it away in a cubby about where the stick shift is,
pretty deep down, and it takes possibly 10 or 15 seconds to hook up.

Once it hooks though, it stays hooked.

When you turn it on (or when you turn on your car and it gets power) it only stays discoverable (by maemo mapper) for about 15 seconds, so basically you have to have mapper seek for it during these 15 seconds. Therefore it might make sense for you to have some kind of on/off switch connected to the GPS just in case you want to start up mapper more than 15 seconds after you start up the car.

Does that make sense??

yup, sounds like I got spoiled by the Nokia one that stays on standby the whole time it's powered... But I think I got you...
If I hard wire it I need an inline switch to togle it off then on in order for it to be found.
