View Full Version : Reboot loop while trying to charge battery (was: Please Help)
Hi I have problems with your operating system from Nokia N900 ... I ran out of battery, I came home to recharge it, and I had a big surprise, it reboots after passing the white background with blue text NOKIA reboots itself! Some help please
Thanks in advance

you are using usb or the AC charger? I had this problem with my n800 once, I had to use the power button and then plug it in after a few seconds.

Leave it on the charger for one hour, and then see what happens.
Is restartng non stop when i put the chargen on it ... I think the sistem operation boot is **** up...
remove the battery , plug in the charger while the battery is removed , then put the battery back .
if the above doesn't work , try going into flashing mode by pressing u at reboot after connecting the usb cable, if that doesn't work then remove the battery , plug in the usb cable while the battery is removed , press and hold u (battery is still out), and then put the battery back (keep holding u while doing this) , if it goes into flashing mode , the boot loader is fine , if it doesn't then i think it is bricked .
Well i just try it what you say and nothing...Nothing else like before...

I tried this one too but.,...No result....Rboot after reboot 1 hour ....
My phone Nokia N900 I think has a problem in with the system boot section, I was at a party where I used wi-fi and I ran out of energy in the battery, I got home I put the phone on charge after a few seconds I noticed that it restarts.
After several restartings (like 30-40) in the left-up corner is apear a green message:
"Malfunction!
Device will be restart in 10s "
Please help me!

i think you need to reflash, but it's impossible with a dead battery, maybe you can find a friend that has one of these phones with the same battery: Nokia 5230, Nokia 5800, Nokia X6.
or try something like this: http://thpmaemo.blogspot.com/2009/12/charging-bl-5j-n900-battery-in-n810.html

i don't know how to stop the loop but i do know that if its gone on too long the phone won't boot at all.
if you can't find another solution you need to flash it but as creamy stated it needs some charge
remove the battery then replace it, hold down 'U' and plug it in to a pc if the usb symbol appears in the top right of the screen you're good to go... just download the os, you shouldn't need to flash the emmc if you're upto date

Alb3rtO, I have merged your threads. Please do not open multiple threads for the same topic. I've also added a more descriptive title to your thread. Generic, "Please Help!" thread titles don't help others find and help you.

I did some searches on this, and apparently the best answer is to find someone with a compatible phone and use it to charge your battery. Another option is to buy a battery charger from eBay. That's all I have.

Here's a solution I heard of:

@Alb3rtO
If you have an n96 or n95 8gb spare you can connect the battery to those terminals and it will charge (the battery will hang out the phone though but it will be fine) :)
Once you get charge and your phone gets back up and running let me know how your phone reacts to charging and connecting to your PC through USB.

I just speak with someone who have a nokia n96 ...Later will come with the phone and Ac adapter on my house.... After i will try to recharche like you say ... I will post the result!
Thnx for tryng to help me!
Might not be much help, but what i did was just leave the phone on the charger for half hour, then UNPLUG charger and then restart.
My phone can never seem to restart while connected to the charger.

No problem,
With the n96 it sits at an angle and hangs out of the phone but works you may need to use some sticky tape to keep it in place.
The n95 8gb however sits in nicely but just hangs out of the phone, no sticky tape needed.
i just make the exchange batery but the phone make the same problems loop after loop.In the Control Pannel the device is looping for drivers,he found the corect drivers but looping.
Sorry Alb3rtO but what did you mean by 'loop after loop in the control panel' ?
Sorry Alb3rtO but what did you mean by 'loop after loop in the control panel' ?
In the device manager where you can see the driver if it or not recognized by the windows.... But never mind i think is a battery problem .,... She don`t have v... The regular voltaj is 3.7 and mine have 2.8 ... Some problems tomorow i will buy a new one
Ah i see now, sorry having a dumb moment.
Now you have charge and without any cables connected does your phone boot at all?
Had this problem, solved it by leaving the phone on AC charger a few hours, when I came back It was charging (orange flashing led).. The phone however needed a FIASCO flash before it actually stopped working oddly.
My guess is that somehow the OS was messed up.
do you see the desktop, and then it reboots?
if yes, i got the same problem right NOW!
In my case, I sometimes got to see desktop but kept on randomly rebooting.. As soon as I got the battery charged, I just enabled flash mode and reinstalled the firmware, preserving the emmc. all has been good since then.

No i can`t see the 4 dots ... From the boot ... Just the white backround and the Nokia Loggo after that restart! I must buy a new battery to verify the problem with low level voltaj ...

Ok keep us posted.
Alb3rtO,
Using a new battery did not work for me. Did you try leaving the phone on AC charger for a few hours?

Yes i try it no result...
Today i was on mall to buy a new battery and is not the battery the problem ... The software is bad!
I was a phone service and they told me that even the box has nothing to do and that should be sent to Nokia. Ugly situation
when u were at the mall , did u try the new battery yourself after verifying that it is fully charged , or just took the store's keeper word for what the problem is ?
please try the battery yourself.. and if possible while at the store , bring your laptop and try to flash the phone if it doesn't start maemo , see if it goes into flashing mode .
if it isn't the battery , then is probably NOLO is acting funky...
what did u do exactly ??? if the battery dies during normal use , this doesn't happen .

When i was on the store i try it a new battery and i have the same problem ... I was in the same day with the phone in a service phones store and they can`t flash ether my phone... Now i send the phone to a Nokia Service ...
The steps I followed when I had my problem were as follows, just in case for you to try before sending the N900 to service..
Remove battery, leave it at least 5 minutes.
Insert battery
Plug the AC charger. At this moment, chances are that the orange led light will turn on, remain lit (not flashing as usual). Leave it like that for a few hours.
Eventually, the LED will start flashing, It will be like that forever (will not reach green status), so remove the AC charger connector after a couple hours.
Don't turn on the phone, use the "U" + USB connector method to flash the phone.
Flash the FIASCO image, reboot the N900.
At step 2, It is possible that no LED color is shown at all in your N900. If that's the case, remove battery again and leave the phone with no battery at all again for a short period of time..
Hope this helps you, mate.
Thnx all for trying help me...
The solution was a nokia service trip :D
