I'm new to the 770. I've downloaded the new software 47-8 from maemo's web site to my win xp box. But can't figure out what to do next. I've clicked the bin file but get an error. Should I had downloaded the file directly to the 770. The nokia site just tells you how to get the file, but nothing after that. The maemo directs me to a site http://maemo.org/maemowiki/HOWTO_FlashLatestNokiaImageWithLinux. After reading the instructions, I can see I'm going to get lost at the part that says "as root execute ./flasher -F Nokia_770_0.2005.45-8.bin -f -R" . Not sure where to type that.

If you are using Windows, you have to download the wizard from this link. It's the first downloadable file on the page after you enter your device's serial number:

http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,79636,00.html

After the install run the wizard and use the .bin file that you downloaded from Maemo. If you get an error, turn the device off, and try again.

Reggie,
Thanks alot. I heard that maemo had the most resent version so I downloaded it from there. Looks like Nokia's web site had the only installer. Thanks for your help.

Confused:
There are two "latest" software version for the 770, Nokia and Maemo versions. Is it possible that experts from Nokia and/(or) "Maemo" explains clearly what are the differencies between them.

What I did was find out that Maemo had the latest version so I download thiers. Then I was told here that to install it I had to go to Nokia's site to download the installer, so I followed the steps on Nokia's site, downloaded the their version and the installer. When I ran the installer it asked for the upgrade file. I then picked Maemo's version.
