Just got my N800 today and to my delight, I noticed that the OS is up-to-date. This saves me from flashing the whole software and I only need to flash the kernel to get SDHC support. It may well be that this change is not global yet but at least, here in Finland the things come with the newest OS - a nice thing for people like me who are used to #1 installing and #2 updating right away...

a stupid question: how to check the system version?

Tools->Control Panel->About product

The "Version" should be 3.2007.10-7 if you have the latest firmware. If you have 2.2006.51-6 (or possibly 2.2006.51-7) then you have the original firmware (which you should consider updating).

Another question: Is it made in Finland or made in Korea? (I'm trying to figure out if they're moving production from Finland to Korea or the other way around).

Initial production takes place in Korea (was Estonia), final assembly happens in Mexico (was US... sigh).

Maybe they build the N800's in many places... I checked and my device is made in Finland.

I'd be surprised if production would be moved to Finland, usually it's the other way round - initial production might happen in Finland though ;-\

Many local companies here are now like almost all international computer companies have been for a while: the sticker behind their product says "Made in China" or some other country in Asia. Just bought a D-Link Wlan router, it is from China as well as all the accessories that came with it. I understand D-Link is not a chinese company ? :-)

D-Link is a Taiwanese company. Most of their kit is manufactured on the Chinese mainland to keep down costs.

Interesting. I didn't think any of those made it out to the general population...

Mine is made in Finland too. I ordered mine 1.5 week into January, and an unofficial poll at that time indicated that lots (all?) of the units sold in Europe at that time were made in Finland. Apparently the Korean-made units mostly went to the US.

Anyway, that's the impression I got back then -- I haven't actually gone back to the archive and counted numbers.

Yeah, I checked into it and you're right TA. Makes sense given the way Nokia production works. I was never exposed to the ones made in Finland.

And lol James. ;)
