What part of Step 3 are you struggling with? Have you tried these?

apt-get clean
apt-get autoclean
apt-get update
apt-get install nitdroid-installer

Give those commands a go (enter after each one, and make sure you are connected to the internet!!!)

Hope this helps!

Thanks.......

I did that and this is what I get... Please help.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libwrt-api1: Depends: libwrt1 (= 1.1.0) but it is not going to be installed
nitdroid-installer: Depends: multiboot (>= 0.2.10) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: multiboot-kernel-maemo (>= 0.3) but it is not going to be installed
qtwrt: Depends: wrt (= 1.1.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: wrt-api (= 1.1.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution)

what would happen if i were to type unmount all? Would it unmount the internal emmc too? Would it load up on reboot again? I haven't been able to fix my full /home yet and it must be something I did while copying android from sd card.

Gingerbread:

Browser keeps crashing whenever I opened it.
Is this a bug?

The home screen keep rotating to upside down.

Browser glitch happened here too, I fixed it by doing this:

Go to the search option,
Search for anything,
Navigate to Google.com using the address bar at the top,
Set this page as Homepage,

Browser SHOULD open up fine! I don't know why but it seems to have done the job for me, if it fails, try a different page like maemo.org as the homepage :P

If your after stability go for 0.0.9 as gingerbread is an experimental release at the moment. As for root access gingerbread does not have it yet but you might be able to do it in 0.0.9.

Can anyone recommend a good class 6 or 8 mmc that works well with Nitdroid?
I want to buy Kingston class 10 but some reviews say it's not much difference with class 6.. And kingston doesn't make class 6 and 8:(

I'm currently running gingerbread with the new kernel from an 8gb class 6 Transcend SD card and it works great. Has good speed and very few force close errors.

Getting PM'd for such stupid questions, (sorry I am forced to say it this time). I updated the first post, just issue the commads as written there and you (everybody) will be fine. AND I REPEAT, DO NOT RUN THE INSTALLER FOR NITDROID (NITDROID INSTALL) ICON IN THE APLICATION MENU, JUST DOWNLOAD IT VIA XTERM, THEN DO AS WRITTEN.

I followed all the instructions for installing gingerbread to the emmc(internal storage) in the n900 and the boot menu kept stalling and I couldn't select the second option to boot andriod and booting maemo failed, I suspect the power kernal again is causing issues :(

Anyway the only way I could fix this was going to mcdonalds lol :D as my cell phone provider is my only access online and I used there wifi but they have a download restriction so after every 12 mb of data downloaded the connection brakes so, I used Firefox and the flash got addon and used wget using the flash got link option by right clicking on the link and so even if the connection brakes it just reconnects and carries on downloading the data into the same file.

And the re flash went smoothly suprisingly and was a success and no data corruption :)
Thanks maccys "a big mac and a flash" lol :D

OK I think I narrowed my problem down to this line:

/dev/mmcblk0p2 on /home

Could somene a bit more learned in linux please confirm that this is not the n900s own internal storage before I attempt to unmount this. Also, will the command "unmount /dev/mmcblk0p2 " do the trick?

The full text of the line as it appears when the mount command is entered is:

/dev/mmcblk0p2 on /home type ext3 (rw,noatime,errors=continue,commit=1,data=writebac k)

it's umount not unmount
why do you want to umount internel drive?

kyllerbuzcut
2011-01-05, 17:31
I DON'T want to unmount the internal drive- That's why I want to check that before I go ahead. I posted up a page or 2 back that somehow I must have mounted something I wasn't supposed to when copying from my sd card to internal emmc. I think that is why my /home says it is full on DiskUsage app and app manager won't let me update anything, even though when I look in Midnight Commander it says there is space in there. The conclusion I came to was that I left something mounted that was not supposed to be mounted- but I don't have the skills or knowledge to know what- so that is why I am checking.

Any ideas:)?

1. Has anyone managed to move apps to SD card ?
FroYo (NITDroid 0.0.9) provide this as an option for many apps, but I have not manged to move any app :( - all give a failed to move error.

2. Also, has anyone tried Taking Tom Cat (or Santa) on NITDroid - I found that the play back audio on both would often fail by playing incredibly slow and at other times play fine.

I had this problem as well to fix this issue go to the terminal on your N900 and type root and hit enter and then type the following apt-get install -f and hit enter and type y and hit enter to the necessary applications or packages to install and now type apt-get install nitrdroid-installer and hit enter or if you have downloaded the package manually type cd and type in the directory where it is saved and hit enter. Then type dpkg -i nameofpackage.deb and hit enter.
Hopefully this should help ;)

Why are you bind mounting /home under /and? You can just cd /home and extract there instead:
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d nameofpackage.tar.bz2
cd /home
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/nameofpackage.tar

when i follow the gingerbread-instructions from the first post, will it dual-install android or will it completely replace maemo?

how much space does gingerbread take up?

forgive my noobiness:

when i follow the gingerbread-instructions from the first post, will it dual-install android or will it completely replace maemo?
and why would i want to install it to the microsd when its possible to install on the internal memory (it is, right?)?
how much space does gingerbread take up?

This way already dualboots android and maemo, and nitdroid is going to be installed in the internal memory a.k.a emmc in this way. Gingerbread takes up about ~150 MB

Why are you bind mounting /home under /and? You can just cd /home and extract there instead:
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d nameofpackage.tar.bz2
cd /home
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/nameofpackage.tar

All ways lead to Rome :D

anyway. anyone here fix market on gingerbread cause fix way on the first post didn't work at all on running apps no market though I had minimize. an google service framework no option to clear cache. just stop nor force stop. hopefully after e-yes come from vacation he will fix market it doesn't work with gingerbread and anyway v 2.4 will release soon. could be google fix for market. I don't want to uninstall it hope it can install on v2.3.1
Yes I do believe I can help you with this, Instead of going to running applications click on all applications and follow the instructions except from one small thing.
With the framework clear the cache, reboot and then go back to the framework and force quit/stop.
And then reboot again and you may have to load The Market place once or twice :)
But this worked for me so, I hope it should work for you ;)

I had this problem as well to fix this issue go to the terminal on your N900 and type root and hit enter and then type the following apt-get install -f and hit enter and type y and hit enter to the necessary applications or packages to install and now type apt-get install nitrdroid-installer and hit enter or if you have downloaded the package manually type cd and type in the directory where it is saved and hit enter. Then type dpkg -i nameofpackage.deb and hit enter.
Hopefully this should help ;)

I just did all that and nothing worked. The only thing I didnt try was the package part. What package are you talking about and where can I get it.... This is driving me crazy... I just cannot get past this dependency issue... Thanks

I don't think anyone is interested, but I will give some feedback on
what I've tried so far.
I am using Ginger, @ 950mhz.

- Wifi does not work for me, can't find my spot ( adhoc problem? )
- Fruit Slice; Gt Racing games work for me, even thought they are
not fullscreen.
- Emulators like Psx4droidv2 and Gameboid are working, gameboid
looks good, but psx, well, maemo's version is way better I think.
( I did not try latest bonapart updates )
- Some apps work for me aswell, without porblems.
- Some others seems to be having seg faults, open
an app on android terminal emulator is a pain, and my debugger
is somewhat crazy, so for now it's all I can say.

Still, update it, do what xterm says.:

Turn off the device, not reboot.
Turn it on, with the U key pressed, you will mostlikely enter multiboot.

Okay here is my workaround for the charging issue in gingerbread :)
The first thing you will want to do is stop the confliction between the BME&sleep function to this go to settings, application, development and tick the box net to stay awake.
Now for the locking confliction this is not perfect but its better then nothing ;)
The second thing you will want to do is go to settings, display settings and click on screen timeout and set this to the highest especially if your battery is nearly flat and needs a full charge.
The third thing you will want to do is optional in terms of if you are going to be using Android whilst the phone is charging you can skip this :) If not please follow thank you :)
Okay so you want to leave the phone charging but the locking mechanism will kick in after even the highest value of screen timeout.
So what I do is go to settings, about phone and click on status and leave it on that menu and also please note you must use the phone or make an action after say 25 minutes as otherwise after 30 minutes Android will lock the phone and the confliction between BME&locking mechanism will happen and Android will kill charging the phone.
The BME is obviously not fixed in gingerbread as this is still happening.
Anyways these are my two cents to the problem and take this issue with a pinch of salt thanks ;)
Also you can help the speed of the charging along by changing to a stationary wallpaper and not a live wallpaper and also changing the display brightness and turning of all wifi and phone GSM/3G connections if you are not using these functions, I hope this helps ;)

Firstly hats off to Ammyt, youre a legend.

Installed Gbread a few days ago and been loving it. Browsed through 138 pages of this thread and fixed most of my issues.

Only thing outstanding is that it wont allow me to creat a VPN,menu is blank, so created a post in the VPN thread for that. But if anyone here wants to chip in and help then please feel free.

Have noticed my n900 get really hot when running Gb, I assume this is due to the overclocking. When running maemo I usually get 26-31c but when running Gb its up to 41 and noticably hot in my hand, does make me worry about the h/w in my n900. Anything I could do to help there?

Okay two things.
The first thing is I changed the LCD density and for some reason MyDocs got unhooked and it couldn't find the sd card area.
I have Gingerbread installed to the emmc(internal storage).
But after I restarted the N900 it was fine but now it keeps saying pre paring sd card and there is a delay for the apps that have been installed to the sd card/MyDocs under /home/user.

And also I know there wouldn't be much point but could I, If I wanted to install Nitdroid 0.09 as well as Gingerbread :)
Thanks in advance!

simply make another copy of the item and rename it by changing 11 to 10 then edit one of them to run nitdroid while memory inserted

BTW, aren't there any workarounds for the camera?

i think the first priority for e-yes is to have a stable gingerbread build, then to have a working phone, after that a working camera.

u need to edit this file vold.fstab in /and/system/etc

open maemo and follow instructions :

this is vold.fstab with the correct commands to mount real SDcard

u can find it in attachments as tar archive

copy it to /home/user/MyDocs

assuming u installed nitdroid on /home

open the terminal

root

mount /home /and

cd /and/system/etc

tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/vold.tar

Please correct me if Im wrong but:
In the Kernel Power Installation section

wouldn't it be enough just to run

to generate the files necessary for the multiboot?

I have read this thread and it does not help me mount and install both Nitdroid and Gingerbread on one parititon so in otherwords without partitioning anything, I have tried myself but If I mount say /home /android and try to extract and install I run into two things.
Number1: Either install and extract overwrites the previous Android OS.
Number2:The kernals can only be mounted and installed /and and again the problem of over writing each other :(

I am struggling to find a way to do this without backing up and repartitioning the flash storage.

If your using Gingerbread, you should change the LCD Density back to 240:

Change the LCD Density to 240, and tell me if it doesn't work :D

Applying Updates:
Be sure that your update.tar.bz2 is in MyDocs, then do the following:
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d nameofpackage.tar.bz2
cd /
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/nameofpackage.tar

Fixes:
Great fixes are included in 0.0.9, including airplane mode, wifi fix, and google sign in. In addition, some users reported that the app market already needs no fixes, but not with me, so let's keep this fix here. More fixes are included in the wiki if you needed them.
Alpha-numeric Keyboard FIX:
Download this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/419273413/htc_ime_hires22_27.zip
1. Install HTC_IME_hi22.apk ONLY

The update are for gingerbread not 0.0.9
if you have gingerbread then follow this

http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/
download: gingerbread_update1.tar.bz2, gingerbread_update2.tar.bz2

place it in Mydocs and open up terminal and type
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d gingerbread_update1.tar.bz2
bzip2 -d gingerbread_update2.tar.bz2
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/gingerbread_update1.tar
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/gingerbread_update2.tar
exit
root
umount /home /and
exit

and restart and the new updates are fully installed :)

also regarding the keyboard. After downloading it, extract the file because its in .zip then copy the HTC_IME_hi22.apk to MyDocs. Now run android and open up filemanager and install it using file manager

you need to overclock it to make it faster after you have completed the first steps (android welcome screen). by default it's clocked at 600mhz :( you will only be able to change the clock speed when nitdroid has fully loaded! and every time you will restart, you will have to change the clock speed
so follow this guide

http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/
download gingerbread_superuser.tar.bz2

place it in Mydocs and open up terminal and type
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d gingerbread_superuser.tar.bz2
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/gingerbread_superuser.tar
exit
root
umount /home /and
exit

^that will enable root in nitdroid so now you can overclock.
apply the market fix which is on the first page. then after when the market is working, search for app in the market called "overclock widget" install it. add the widget to home screen and use that to overclock!
Also download "Taskiller" and use the widget to free up ram. this will decrease the lag in games :D

Hi mido.fayad,

I have copied the *.APK files to MyDocs folder and in Android I am using Filebrowser to run it and everytime I click on the file a pop up appears says, 'No applications can perform this action.

I am still trying to install SETCPU and install the HTC Keyboard fix from Page 1, but not having much luck.

Do you know of any other file browsers that can work? I've tried installing Astro File Manager from APP Brain but it keeps telling me to get it from Marketplace, but when I do a search there, it is not found..

Any ideas?

I am struggling to find a way to do this without backing up and repartitioning the flash storage.

Theorically it is possible a solution like this:

Use a big optFS (Maemo's /home), at least 4GB but bigger is better
Create on it an android directory with one subdirectory for each nitdroid version you want to install (i.e. Nitdroid 0.0.9, Gingerbread, Gingerbread mido's version)
sudo gainroot
cd /home
mkdir nitdroid-container
cd nitdroid-container
mkdir froyo-1
mkdir gingerbread-1
mkdir gingerbread-2
cd /home
Mount the directory
mount -o bind /home/nitdroid-container/froyo-1 /and
and install your Nitdroid (i.e Froyo) as usual.
Dismount directory when finished
umount /and
Mount the directory
mount -o bind /home/nitdroid-container/gingerbread-1 /and
and install your Nitdroid (i.e Gingerbread) as usual.
Dismount directory when finished
umount /and
Mount the directory
mount -o bind /home/nitdroid-container/gingerbread-2 /and
and install your Nitdroid (i.e mido's Gingerbread) as usual.
Dismount directory when finished
umount /and
Modify the multiboot's script to add a "pivot_root to subdir" capability
Create 3 multiboot's boot scripts (i.e. 33-froyo.item, 44-ginger1.item, 55-ginger2.item) with correct options on them

The most difficult step is to enhance multiboot's capabilities, but it is an rather easy job for people with linux's script skills

thats wrong, mounting /and to Mydocs wont give you the permissions

run these commands
root
umount /home/user/MyDocs /and
mount /home /and
cd /and
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/name of the kernel.deb

it should work now :D

2.3.. latest one from nitdroid.de frontpage..

i think the problem is that multiiboot setting where reset and it's pointing now to my memorycard and i had memorycard inserted so it started that version..
when i remove memory card it doesnt start so i will change the start partition from multiboot and try again.. will post here what happened..

Well, if it is still saying that, it didn't take then. I suggest doing the fix all over again (from the youtube explanation if need be- can be found on the nitdroidforums) and you should only need to reboot once. Try rebooting just once and then open market, close it, open it again, close it, etc. I did it 10 times I think before it actually worked. To properly close, you can download (hopefully) Task Killer, or some equivalent. It is an app that is run so you can kill any tasks you have. It's a downfall (a serious one at that) of Android that you need an app to kill other apps but it is what it is.

Once you stop seeing the "no matching content" in the market, then you should be alright to download astro. Someone else alluded to using the stock file manager but I'm not sure that would work, even in .apk format. Let us know if you have any more problems though.

Edit- link to the nitdroid forums with the youtube fix for anyone who wants a visual aid (it helped me.)

Umm I signed up to this forum 10 mins ago, and I read the very first page of this detailed thread. If you did that, you will easily "conclude" that Nitdroid can send/recieve calls, with no voice and send/recieve sms's.

You can use the file manager open the kernel and install it in the app manager, then edit the .item file manually.

Airplane mode
in Android go to
menu→devtools→terminal emulator
and type

su
rr

and regarding the overclock
install filebox and leafpad in maemo using app manager and turn on root in filebox (second last button on the right)
then go to
/home/etc and you will find four file "oc-profile-250-500.conf" etc
rename one of them to power.conf
then open up terminal and type

root
leafpad /home/etc/power.conf

when in editing mode, you will find
Change these to look like these or your choice numbers.
scaling_max_freq 1000000
scaling_min_freq 250000

^ shows max-1ghz min= 250mhz.

Bit slow(starting apps and loading itself) but that might be just first time.

And quick question, can I delete or uninstall anything now? After I got it all installed? Like installer or those 2 files in mydocs

Need some help please guys and dolls.

In the WIKI it states :

After it completes, simply format your microSD card, then using filebox delete nitdroid's installation folders and files that were copied to home: bin, data, dev, etc (symlink), initrd, lib (symlink), mnt, proc, sbin, sdcard, sys, system, tmp, usr, default.prop, init, init.nokia.rc, init.rc

Should i delete the folders: bin, data, dev, etc (symlink), initrd, lib (symlink), mnt, proc, sbin, sdcard, sys, system, tmp, usr, default.prop, init, init.nokia.rc, init.rc ??

I want to try and delete all of nitdroid and start afresh. Have been able to install NITdroid 008 and 009 but appear to have the unknown operand error, when installing gingerbread.

Kind regards from sunny (yes sunny) UK

you only have to have 3 folders in ur directory that is lost+found, opt & user. All other folders have to be deleted.

most probably because many people have used the "fr -r" to delete the folder... and that deletes every thing from rootfs if you dont use it the right way. instead of deleting the /and folder... i doubt they couldnt boot because deleting /and folder. ive personally done thaat 3 times and havent had any issue :D

Here is a quick fix for the Android Market after following the instructions on the front page of this thread and you get the error when running the market app after rebooting after the fix and so you don't have to constantly reboot and hope for best.
Go to settings and then click on accounts&sync settings and now un tick background data and now go back to the home screen and run the Android Market application again and it will tell you that it needs this and enable it via the button to the left.
Now you may get a couple of server errors but keep trying and it will work ;)

Tried market fix(although I don't know how to leave application running in background since it wouldn't show on running apps, if i press camera key once or half way same thing, or even if I hold it and open settings), I only got free apps, none of the paid ones :/

geekygenes

Usually you just press the camera key once quickly not slowly :)
But if it doesn't show in running apps don't worry just go to all and you will find Market and the Google Service Framework there and just follow the instructions on the front page of this thread then reboot and use my tip if you keep getting errors when trying to open the Android Market ;)

To have ASTRO installed sithout Market fix:
1. http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/app/astro-file-manager to download it.
2. Place it in MyDocs
3. On Xterm:
root
mount /home /and
mv /home/user/MyDocs/ASTRO_File_Manager_2.5.2.apk /and/system/app
4. Reboot to Nitdroid, you'll find it there :)

anybody know if there will ever be a full functional call function for nitdroid.
Couldht they make a fix for this function so people can call me (and speak with me while im using nitdroid?
They should ignore other functions and concentrate more on getting the most important function working so people can use it as alternative os.

Hope some people agree with what im saying.
