Eeek, sounds a bit complicated for me - although I do appreciate it does seem to be in layman terms. Editing the file sounds a tad complicated.
Will updates to the WebOS Manager come out with new supported games or are we meant to add them this way?
Just a quickie - been playing Asphalt, when I restarted it had lost my progress so far. I have gone into options in WebOS Manager and selected a save folder, but still the same happens.
Any ideas?

Why do I get the do not have permissions message when I attempt to paste the files in the relevent folders? I can copy and paste it into other files but not into /usr/share/wgames/gamesinfo/ini/
My mistake - hadnt given myself root access - will try again

Problem is, I can obtain the game files, but where do you obtain the .ini and.ch files from that are needed?

Driver works great (much better than the PC version), but to install it, you need version 0.6.8 of webOS games manager. With version 0.6.9 has been reported by many users, a bug that blocks the installation of many games in step 4 ...
I'm working to create files for other games (Real Soccer 2010, Brother in Arm) ... I could not run the 2 best game for me ... Gangstar and SandStorm ...
Is there no way to roll back my version of webOS to get Driver to work then?
Good luck with the other games - would be great to play them
Also how do you save and restore games - read the first post again and does not explain.

Cheers - however it wont install - states binutils missing????
Tried uninstalling webOS and installing it again then attempting the .deb download - same problem im afraid
EDIT - saw this on page 2:
Got it installed by updating preenv and installing binutils using apt-get install -f
However tried this and still no joy - grrrrr

I want to add them in my games folder but there aren't any .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/hildon that I could use.
do you know any solution for this problem or are these files at an other space?!

Unable to play Avatar after update. Tried reinstalling Manager as well as Avatar game but everytime I try to start the game it starts but crashes to desktop after the first two intro pages (the one with gameloft logo and the next with Fox logo etc.).Is anybody else facing the same problem?????

Cheers managed to do that - however Brain Challenge will not install now and neither does Driver still (lots of red error messages)
But Earthworth Jim does install,
Not sure if I am doing anything wring here or if others are having the same problem?

I try to install Driver but not lucky for me, I left my phone all night long installing the game and no good news when I sow the screen, always unpack :(

Some good updates there - just wondering if anyone having he same problems with games that I am?
Unless I am doing something wrong? I have put my .ipk downloads in my own frolder I created.
I am running 0.69 version of WebOS
Driver v1.1.7 - does not install at all - hangs at sep 4 (unpack archive)
Earthworm Jim v1.0.3 - installed and works only if you select continue game. Crashes if you select new game or enter sound options and exit back
Real Football 2010 v1.1.2 - hangs on installing but when you exit installation it appears to have installed ok - game loads up but touch screen to exit off menu does not work
Radient v2.12.34 - installs ok with no error message but like Real Football 2010, unable to exit the menu screen - touch screen does not work

Mine won't install - states Cannot parse JSON - Unexpected EOF in archive
Also how do you save? Brain Challenge automatically saves my progress but whenever I restart Asphalt 5 it sets me back to the beginning? Is there a keypress to save midgame?
Brothers in Arms you cannot look around the screen (usually controlled by right thumb sliding accross the screen) you can only move your soldier in the direction he is facing

How about for assasins creed? the movement doesn't seem to be mapped on the keyboard...
so far, i found light attack (left key), heavy attack (space) and jump (up key)... no key mappings for the movement

i realised that the touch screen for the dpads is not calibrated properly... it's as though the axis is inverted but NOT entirely.... it's just not right

I suspect your drive /home/user/Mydocs has errors... Thus the N900 makes the drive READ-ONLY. Easiest thing to do is to connect the N900 to Windows (via USB as Mass Storage) then get Windows to check the drives for errors and auto-fix them... :cool:

There is not error with my eMMC. I scanned it and nothing found. It's not the eMMC it's the Manager is bung. I'm using version 6

Seems like the Manager cannot write to home/user. I chmod the folder to inherit the user 29999 and it write the game to it. So first thing to do is to make home/user/Games accessible by normal user mode.

He won't upload the IPK files because it is illegal. Now, instead of being an ignorant fool, learn to use the search function. My favoured search engine is Google but there are others. If you desire a how to, just ask. It took me seconds to find that the issue is with your (most likely stolen) IPK files.

I've installed blades of fury and the "D" key in the keyboard riggers the same output as "E" key. However the "A" key works fine. Hence I got all (q,e,z,c & a,w,x) working as expected except for key D. Any suggestion?? thnx

Feature Request
After pressing 'Play' on an installed game, it would be great to have some kind of indicator that WOSGM is launching the game.
I'm probably just impatient, but I keep thinking nothing's happening and press the button again (and sometimes again :o), resulting in multiple instances of the game launching which I then have to go and shut down.
A small thing, I know, but it would be a nice touch :)

I did look at it but it was kinda confusing with
"The supported games list will grow, as soon as comunity members will post information about it here. To add a new game to the list, you have to prepare .ini file and image for preview. Format of .ini file and (optional) postinstall file I will describe later, but meanwhile you can see examples in /usr/share/wgames/gamesinfo/ dir."
Anyway, is there a decent site to find the files? If we're not allowed to say that's fine, but people talk about ROM sites because it's legal if you have purchased the game, AFAIK anyway. I just don't want to stumble onto a site that provides bad files.
I cannot pass through the screen "Enable sound" in Family guy. Buttons don't want to be pushed. They just don't seem to be working

Got angry birds rio installed as a .deb file, working beautifully. No idea if it'll save yet as haven't closed it, but good to see deb files working

But the problem is .... i have installed preenv (v 0.1.7) and wgames (v0.6.9) and each and every game installs fine !!! But , the problem comes here
Which ever game i installed via Wgames manager just opens and crashes ... evenbefore getting ''Gameloft'' ....... :confused::(

So, anyone knows how I put the icons created with webos manager in Game category, with the Catorise GUI ?
Catorise GUI isnt showing the icon so I can change =/
Is there no other version of Driver available apart from 1.1.7? This one will not install - wondering if there is another version out there that would work for me?
some games try to install, but they've been all night long trying to install, never finished unpacking, and when manually cancelled, it gave some of the game instructions, obviously it didn't work.

I tried installing the Driver game, legally obtained, , and the Driver folder in Games folder has 13.9 GB and I cannot delete it, nor does the game work.

WebOS Games Manager ('wgames' in repo) - automatic installer/uninstaller for WebOS games. It installs game from .ipk file, applies all needed hacks and creates desktop launcher. It also can back up/restore games' saves.

The solution for me was to connect my N900 to a windows machine and run chkdsk to the MyDocs drive. It fixed some problems in the folders, after that the folders reported actual size and I was able to delete those folders! Good luck!

FWIW, I have had Earth Worm Jim installed. The installation took a very long time to complete, but the game works just fine on my N900.

Catorise GUI isnt showing the icon so I can change =/
i have not used catorise but i had my own Games folder in menu so this is what you need
[game icon].desktop files used by webOS manager are located at /home/user/.local/share/applications/hildon/
leafpad /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu to access the menu file. Edit it to put appropriate .desktop file tag in appropriate folder tag. thats it ~

Easy Instalation Tutorial:
1- download link of the WebOsDRIVER game.Then download it.
2- conect the N900 to the PC and choose the mass memory.
3- Copy the driver.deb that you have dowloaded to the root of the N900. (just open the N900 mass memory and copy there out of any folder).
4- Disconect the N900 from the PC.
5- If you dont have it already instal rootsh from the repositories. if you have it already go to step 6.
6- If you have already installed the Preenv app go to step 7 now. If you dont have it already install the Preenv app. open the x-term and insert the following commands:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install preenv
-It’ll ask you if you wish to continue (Y/n) type Y and hit ENTER;
7- open the x-term and insert the following commands:
sudo gainroot
preenv
cd MyDocs
dpkg -i driver.deb
8- exit the x-term and reboot your n900.
Thats it! You have now installed the full version of DRIVER game in your N900
Have Fun
To Uninstall it just remove in the app manager just like you woukd remove any other app.
7- open the x-term and insert the following commands:
sudo gainroot
preenv
cd MyDocs
dpkg -i driver.deb
Cheers - all ok until I get to the above paoint - works until dpkg part - states no such file or directory??

processing triggers for catorise
Then a load of hash symbols appear ended by /home/user/MyDocs
I exit and reboot my phone, however when I enter WebOS Manager, the game Driver is now not showing in the list of installed games (was showing previously - but not as installed) now it's just a blank space, no info on the game - no picture of it.

Hope this program gets it's bugs ironed out. Getting webos games to run in the MyDocs directory is such a *****, this makes it all so much easier *smirks*
Would it be possible to get a progress bar on the installation? I'm guessing no, since it just runs a dpkg command. Or at least a verbose output to see what exactly is going on? Long waiting times, and having no idea what is going on during, can get quite annoying.

I could answer this :D
Real soccer although is a small package but has thousands of files packed on it. It is usually slower to unpack lots of files compare to unpacking big chunks but small amount of files cause unpacking program on linux isn't multithreading

Tried installing Real Soccer again.
If I try the .ipk file via WebOS manager it just hangs on installing - if I then quit, itstates game installed but I cant exit the title screen - the touch screen wont work
If I install it via the .deb file and select the icon to load it - flashes to a black screen and then back to the phone screen again.

Hi - tried it and I did get a Segmentation Fault error.
I tried typing in apt-get install libGLES * (with and without the *) but it states E: could'nt find package libGLES

I can't install Driver nor Monopoly. I know a workaround exists using deb files, but it's a bit tricky for me (especially because I have an azerty keyboard, I doubt the keyboard scripts will work for azerty) and I would like to know whether it is planned to fix them within WebOS Games Manager. Thanks. Using an older version of the .ipk, I managed to install the game un WebOS Games Manager. But it crashed at launch, so I used a .deb file and now it is working fine.
By the way, it would be nice if Driver would be "natively" working with the .ipk in WebOS Games Manager. I installed the .deb version but I have black glitches on the screen, even using the driver.ini documented in the wiki (http://wiki.maemo.org/Preenv/FAQ#Driver). Yes, libgles1 and 2 are installed. I don't know where is the problem. It is too bad as Driver was one of the games which attracted me to this topic! :'[
Another question: is there a simple way to tell to WebOS Games Manager that I have an Azerty keyboard instead of a Qwerty one? I would like to remap the keys for playing with keyboard because with default values it is unplayable (I don't even find all game commands with the azerty keyboard), but I have no idea how to do that. today i did reset my n900 to factory settings
and the icons of all games installed with wgames disappeared.
so i opened wgames and the games are still there!
just like ngage.
so my idea would be to implent an option that disables the app from creating an icon for the game.
why could be this useful?
less apps in menu, all games in one place like ngage.
and a better ui for the app like the ngage ui.
then we would have the maemo version of ngage.

so my idea would be to implent an option that disables the app from creating an icon for the game.
why could be this useful?
less apps in menu, all games in one place like ngage.
and a better ui for the app like the ngage ui.
then we would have the maemo version of ngage.

That was exactly my idea when i first opened wgames. I thought of a 3rd button in the main menu for games so there is "Games", "Install/Uninstall" "Manages Saves". The Games menu contains a list of the games that are already installed and preselects the last one started.
no... screw that. I just had a better idea: wgames should already start with the list of games that are already installed and preselect the last one... that way users can start off gaming much faster. the install/uninstall and edit saves buttons should simply be placed inside the drop down menu... guess that would be perfect.
now thats a good idea?

The main reason why games has separated Bin and Data folders is that MyDocs is vfat and has no exec attribute. So, change Bin to any other partition (I guess it worth to add check for that).

Also, having the Data folder inside MyDocs will cause "Mini Golf: Wacky Worlds" to fail on installing with "Failed to create folder Mini Golf: Wacky Worlds" again probably due to MyDocs being vfat and the : (colon) character isn't allowed in folder names.

Hi, I don't know if it has been mentioned before, but would it be possible to change the .desktop path from /home/user/.local to /usr/share/applications/hildon so that catorise can pick it up instead of easy debian, I don't think anyone would launch pree games from easy deb anyway. I belive people who use catorise alternatives would be fine with that path too, correct me if Im wrong though. ;)

installed games will normally show under "others" category in the menu, and will show up under "all" category also (at the very bottom of the list) then when menu gets rebuilt, they will be sorted correctly.
if you want to modify the category, install catorisegui from the repository or install the updated catorise and catorise gui from here :

I really think there is no need but incase you want to undo the instructions :
as user (NOT root)
rm /home/user/.local/share/applications/hildon
mkdir /home/user/.local/share/applications/hildon
this returns that folder to it's previous state.
if you want, go ahead and move your games' .desktop files back into that folder.
again you don't have to be root since user now owns .desktop files
mv /usr/share/applications/hildon/<your game name>.desktop /home/user/.local/share/applications/hildon/
when done moving .desktop files back, return ownership of /usr/share/applications/hildon to root.
sudo gainroot
chown root /usr/share/applications/hildon
chown root /usr/share/applications/hildon/*
reboot
now your menu should return to it's original state.

I am facing a problem only with Settlers; the game installed ok, but crashes as soon as I start it. Do I need to install some other thing too? Sorry, I searched, but could not find a solution.
If it helps, I'm using power kernel 47 in ideal mode. The version of Settlers that I have is 1.1.1. Also, I have other games like NFSU / Nova / Asphalt5 / Toonwarz working fine.

running into problem it seems. trying to install earthworm jim and it just sits on step 4. been sitting there for almost an hour. can't seem to find anyone else having problems. running power kernel OCed to ideal and repartitioned app directory to 8gb and MyDocs 20gb. Plenty of room in both directories.
these is a cool program but its not letting me select the memory card to install games to. where is the file and ill edit it manualy?
OK this program COULD be good but at the moment its terrible for me...
There is like a 5% chance a game will install mostly it just stays on #4 unpacking forever and ever and EVER and EVER and EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR i once left it all night long to see if it would EVER finish.. It did not.
So i have to try install, abort, try install, abort, try install, abort, try install, abort until it finally gets past #4.
If somebody can tell me how to fix that this program will go from 1/10 to 10/10.

I'm having a similar problem to those above. Tried installing xplanedefault and it hangs on 'this may take some time' even overnight. I used the nfsu installer which worked fine. I'll try another game tonight.

I can't install Angry Birds (1.5.3). Seems like more people are having the same issue as I have.

I have increased the games supported list to 48 games along with hacks and .ini files , I have created a .zip file (Wgames.zip) with three folders : -
1.Hacks
2.images
3.ini
What you have to do is copy these three folders to /usr/share/wgames/gamesinfo either by filebox or xterm:)

I am trying to install xplane with webos games.
I am seeing the following for more than 12 hours as I didn't stop the progress.
Step 1: Checking available space... OK
Step 2: Extracting game info... OK
step 3: Prepare directories... OK
step 4: Unpack archive (it may take a while)...
there are two arrows going round and round for more than 12 hours.
is there anything wrong? should I keep waiting? how much time it normally takes for the installation?

12 hours is definitely not right. Takes mine about 10 minutes for Heroes of Sparta, which fairly hefty. Any issues with other ipk files?

When i opened Webos Game manager, It detected all 3 files.
When i clicked Install, it kept on saying "Extracting Game info" and after 45 sec it said "Failed Cannot parse JSON: /usr/bin/gnu/tar: Removing leading `/"... blablabla" = it showed this STUPID NOOB Error for 2 games ASPHALT5 AND AVATAR, wheres NOVA GOT INSTALLED Correctly, and when i clicked PLAY, hahahah, NOTHING OPENED, no game nothing, I tried to open the game through terminal, haha, got same error, game didnt open. and then i uninstalled that NOOB nova game and the MOST STUPID APP MADE WEBOF GAMES MANAGER.:mad:
This author is fooling us by creating this app so that people dont get to play webos game, and so that ppl get irritated and leave.:mad:
My N900 has LATEST UPDATED Software and OS till date. I update my N900 through Nokia Suite.:cool:

Why bother mate writing such silly things? "Useless" is your post, we all appreciate hard work divan has put into this application... Yes, it's not perfect but it works for most games and makes whole process a lot easier. So shut up and go along in silence or DO something to make it work.
The problem you have encountered seems to be happening to people using newer versions of IPKs than the ones divan was aiming for when releasing the app, including me. Unfortunately I never really had time to investigate the problem, I suppose we all have to work and have a bit of social life. If you're not grown enough to understand the benefits N900 can provide then buy yourself PSP and leave this forum.

I don't know why, but I did never installed WebOS GM. I prefer to install DEB games instead of IPKs but there are some IPKs games which works so maybe you did not have luck!! :D

Well you don't seem to be a very "advanced" user as per your nickname if you're not able to understand a simple commandline error. ;)
Before spitting **** onto other work maybe you should kindly ask for info and help and/or contribute yourself to optimize that work.
Last (but not least) please SWITCH OFF THAT BOLD FONT and avoid being so rude!

I'm not a programmer, not even an "advanced user" but every game I tried with this app worked! Plus, can't you see the number of people who said that it works with them?! Doesn't that tell you that the problem is with you?!
So please don't blame the people who are trying to make your life easier!

the installer doesn't work with newer ipks as they break deb standard and dpkg-deb fails to unpack. Will provide patch ASAP. Will use ar instead of dpkg.

Installed NFSUC and Asphalt5 without problem.

Because of the size of these games, there is a problem with the Unpack process....
an update of the application would fix that bug, but never come.
You may not able to delete the files that already created by the application.
the easy way you fix that, is to connect N900 as a mass storage, with a Windows-pc and: Properties-->tools--> check the driver for errors.
I dont say, that application isnt good, but with these games many users have problemS....
i installed nova and hero of sparta successfuly, but driver never installed.
Anyone managed to get Driver working? Keeps coming up with an error on mine.
I get an unexpected EOF in archive - error is not recoverable
I take it the 38 games supported are the confirmed working ones - do we wait for an update when more games are supported?

Second thing i want to ask you is that if you could make possible installing from unpacked ipk. It's very easy to unpack ipk (just install 7zip and click unpack). Then we will paste unpacked folder to e.g. "Downloads/Unpacked" and WebOSManager will use only "mv" command and it will be installed. And why? It's obvious. N900 is nothing to compare with our Core2Duo or i7, so Nokia is unpacking these archives so sloooooow... If there will be option for install from unpacked ipk too it will speed up installing a lot ;)
III.
next suggestion i have is that you should make another button in main menu: "Play", so there will be 3 buttons: Play,Install/Uninstall,Manage Saves. why? Supported games list is growing fast and not everybody would install them all, so for example if he have 5 games, he have to scroll down these all uninstalled games to find what he have installed. So you can make this Play section, where will be only icons of installed games. I think it will be a lot easier to use ;)

I've been installing Hot Pursuit HD, but it stops and then i opened WinSCP and tried to delete hot pursuit files. then i saw an error. when i opened HP folder, there are a lot of weird files and i cant delete it.. and N900 says, that there are 753 files and they have 1492,27GB !?!? There should be 146 files, 22MB... What can i do to delete them? Only reflash?
This has been answered many times on this thread mate, just use the search next time...
In short you need to connect your n900 to computer in mass storage mode and then go into properties > tools and perform error-checking. When finished you can manualy delete affected folders...
