receive texts?

make/ receive calls?

receiving text works since 0.0.8 ;)

and asking about calls is getting as annoying as asking about temperature readings in power kernel thread :O If it's not written in this or previous announcements, it's not available. I think when it will be available, it will be written in announcement in bold letters and biggest font size :P

I think the uninstallation method in http://wiki.maemo.org/Nitdroid_easy_install_on_EMMC#Uninstalling_Nitdroi d

..needs to be updated, it doesn't work for me,
first some folders cannot be deleted using filebox as described there so i had use rm -rf,

And then i tried this N12, following the installation method and the kernel i used to successfully install N11.

But i get sh : /dev/mmcblk0p2 unknown operand

and after checking the /etc/multiboot.d i can't find the item for nitdroid..

So i install multiboot apt-get install multiboot..
And now guess what?

the Maemo option doesn't appear on multiboot, only android :(
I guess i have to reflash now :(

The installation method only works if i do a clean reflash on Maemo first...
So there must be something missing on the uninstallation procedure..
There's something else that has to be removed before installing nitdroid again

Can anyone help me with this?
Anyone managed to install N12 after N11?

I just wonder... Is it more efficient with the battery than in 0.0.8? It drains the battery so fast that it's almost impossible to use it without charging at the same time. It also gets really hot...
Or will we have to live with it?

I was about to try this new release out, but knowing calls are busted means I wont.

I'm using the same kernel which I used for N11 Vostok, so no need for me to reinstall kernel, I did the following in xterm :

root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d N12_UMay.tar.bz2
cd /home
mkdir /and
cd /
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/N12_UMay.tar

Worked fine for me, hope this helps.

They worked for me. I had Nitdroid N11 installed already so I ignored two lines (cd /home & mkdir /and) as they already existed.

Everything else works fine.

Kenny, I would recommend you follow http://wiki.maemo.org/Nitdroid_easy_install_on_EMMC#Installing_NITDroid_ N11_to_EMMC - The instructions are good and work.

Failing that, I have a list of instructions on my blog with screenshots as I ran through the above instructions. I am not saying mine are better, but sometimes pictures work. http://www.mynokian900.com/2011/04/how-to-install-nitdroid-n11-vostok-on-n900.

I am going to try whatsapp shortly. I too got SMS working. (I don't really care for phone calls to be honest - hardly ever use the phone). However I tried calling my 2nd phone from N900 and it rang, and from my 2nd phone I called my N900 Nitdroid and it rang too... I stupidly didn't think of testing voice... but guessed it wouldn't work so didn't bother. Still exciting to see the progress E-Yes is making. It's fantastic.

Marketplace also works well now. I bought my first Android application called "Screenshot it" and it works brilliantly.

Thanks but,

I think you don't have to include the commands for fresh install since it's just for upgrading..

Still, i believe the uninstallation method is incorrect or missing something,
since if you try it and then install a new nitdroid you'll get sh : /dev/mmcblk0p2 unknown operand error..

Could someone please fix this?

+1 for this
Could anyone correct it?

Some feedback after testing it..

I'm not sure if this is more stable.. i get more "app x not responding" error compared to N11..
Also the phone seems to be warmer compared to N11

Looks like you don't have multiboot installed. Install Nitdroid installer from shell (don't run app after installing). Enable Maemo-Extras repo then:
apt-get update
apt-get install nitdroid-installer

Try again after that.

They are standalone, but sit in the same location so installing (extracting) N12 after N11, overwrites N11.

Help please I can't boot in maemo ...guru meditation error...I have installed the enh.kernel multiboot but still no result.any workaround than flashing?

What was exactly the package names? For power kernel you need to install kernel-power package from package manager (it pulls kernel-power, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-flasher as far as I remember) and after that you need to install kernel-power-bootimg via command line ("apt-get kernel-power-bootimg"). If you have shell access, could you post here (or send me via PM not to spam this thread) output of commands:

ls /boot
ls /boot/multiboot
ls /etc/multiboot.d

and for each file returned by the last command:
more /etc/multiboot.d/something-returned-by-the-last-command (for example and most probably the important ones will be "more /etc/multiboot.d/00-Maemo-2.8.28-omap1.item" or "more /etc/multiboot.d/01-Maemo-kernel-power-2.6.28.10power47.item")

That was stupid -_-' You could flash with option to flash only kernel, then rest of your device's memory (all apps and all emmc) would stay there untouched and you wouldn't loose anything, and it should be enough for making device bootable.

Not sure if it actually works but you could try out FakeGPS. You can set where ever you are. http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/fake-gps-location_suaq.html
I will check it now if it actually works.

Who actually creates those 'Tags'? I mean you can't be serious about this one.

Already tried with FakeGPS and it works OK. Even if I set the position to my city, it's better because at least I can use the Search option and manually search the venue. At least I'm not in Russia anymore :)

I also tried Bluetooth GPS Mouse app, and successfully connected a LD-3W via Bluetooth and it works GREAT in FourSquare and Facebook Places.

But again, as you pointed out, it really doesn't fix my problem. Network Positioning SHOULD work in any circumstance.

I had that problem, I didn't know how to deal with it so I flashed the device fully, as in back to factory state and not just the kernel, it worked like a charm after that, even though I lost everything in Maemo (:

Hi Friend,

I tried 2 methods:

1. Fresh Install
2. Existing N11 and then upgraded to N12

Instructions in the Wiki worked properly for me. :) Please do note that I didn't have any apps installed or any customizations when I upgraded, so I don't know if upgrading wipes out currently installed apps or customizations.

Also noticed incoming SMS gets truncated to 126 characters...have logged bug for this with logs too :) Anyone else notice this? Works superb otherwise.

Voice is interesting...it appears very close...dialling out, the earpiece audio is garbled with gaps, almost distinguishable...it used to be dead/blank on older kernel. Might just need a samplerate or buffer tweak.

PS. Keep up the good work e-yes :)

Lovely stuff. I will try installing this in the next day or 2. To people having problems with google sign in upon boot not appearing then having no market. I had this on N11 and I thought I had made a clean install. It's not a problem really market-wise, as there is an alternative, but you may notice it wont sync. Tried a few things but couldn't get it to fix. Wasn't too bothered by it. Don't think you really need it. At the moment at least.
Thank you e-yes for all your wonderful stuff. I am sure N12 will be good fun, whether I get it to install fine or even if it turns into a problem solving, brain testing excercise trying to figure out which bit I did wrong:) I actually learn loads when I have to figure stuff out and it beats watching soap operas on tv.

Yannis, when I run
leafpad /etc/multiboot.d/11 Tap TAB at the bottom of the screen, I get the following line appearing: leafpad /etc/multiboot.d/11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p2-2.6.28.NIT.0 and if I press enter there are no lines in the file. It's empty. I quit out of file without saving. Is that right? I was expecting to see a couple of lines and specically a line mentioning
"ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p2".

My guess is it because the file already exists, there is no need to edit the boot file. Would that be correct? :confused:

yannis

My /etc/multiboot.d folder has the following files:

00-Maemo-2.6.28-omap1.item - i.e Maemo
11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p2-2.6.28.NIT.06.item - i.e old kernel
11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p2-2.6.28.NIT.07.item - i.e new kernel

inside those 2 last .items there must be a line like tihs
ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p2

So, don't leafpad at the /etc/multiboot.d/11 (there is no such file as "11")
Just enter those 2 last .item files and change line accordingly.

You are right Yannis (thanks). After I booted up I could see the new line "11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p2-2.6.28.NIT.07.item - i.e new kernel" in my menu, but after selecting it it loaded and stopped at "Guru Meditation : Required Files Not Found". So i booted back into Maemo. Switched on SSH, used WinSCP to find the /etc/multiboot.d/ and could see the item 3 and 4 (my two nitdroid kernels). I edited the both in Notepad++ side by side and can see the culprit ITEM_DEVICE=${INT_CARD}p2 I removed my SD card. So I have replaced it with the line ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p2 and it's all good. ;)

I wonder how many of you will actually use phone function after it's usable...
Let me clarify a bit...
Kernel is compatible. But NITDroid expects some initialization that is done by multiboot. Multiboot loads all necessary modules (at least for mouting NITDroid's partition), make depmod, it mounts root, makes maemo's root accessible in /mnt/initfs (yeah, it's needed in order to force nokia's binary crap (DSME, BME, SYSINFOD/CAL) to work)...

I plan to move required logic to NITDroid itself, but this task doesn't have high priority as far as multiboot "just works".

Thanks, finally got it installed (probably issues with a SanDisk card [stuck on black screen with white -), but using SDFormatter and a combination of other instructions (sfdisk,mkfs,mke2fs etc.) I finally got it installed properly.

That includes What'sApp, just not when on 3G it seems. Can anyone confirm it only works on WLAN?

Speed is fine too on my microSD class 4.

Big thanks e-yes and others, I'll be looking forward to more updates (my main purpose being messing about, and hopefully use What'sApp properly).

PS Phonecall itself works, just the speaking (and hearing) doesn't.

hahahah....I'm pretty new on linux and it was too late when I saw in other threads that I can flash just the kernel,so I did a full flash.I tried to boot into baemo pressing b,1,0...but everytime i had the same guru meditation error.8 followed every step by step how to install the N12 UMay...I made sure that I have installed the full package with the enh.kernel bootimg,multiboot and all of that but I still got that error.First of all I was able to dual boot..but that was with the stock nokia kernel,then I installed the enh.kernel v.47 edited the multiboot.d/11 thing with leafpad and saved...after reboot in the boot meny I had three options...first one maemo with ...something omap1,second maemo with enh.kernel v.47 and nitdroid 2.3.4.I succesfully booted into Nitdroid but after reboot I couldn't boot back in maemo no matter what I tried and reading I don't know how many threads with people having similar problems.Now I'm afraid to install Nitdroid again due to the previous failure.Can someone explain to me how to do it step by step.-or the moment I' running on PR 1.3,installed CSSU and enhanced kernel for power users 2.6.28.10-power 47.thanks to all of you who were willing to help me.Greetings from Macedonia!

Here are my benchmark results (AnTutu & Quadrant) @750 MHz with undervolting. NITdroid is installed on eMMC's separate partition.

This guide (http://xuggs.blogspot.com/2010/12/overclocking-nitdroid-009.html) helped me to find how I can undervolt CPU. I edited voltage settings in oc-profile-500-750.conf and then renamed the file into power.conf.

Thanks Kolos for the benchmark...:)

I Installed Vostok on MicoSD with 3 GB ext3 partition on 8 GB card... Speed of the OS is not bad, but the device is rebooting while running out of memory (cannot play 3d games - loading... for long while)... I checked my RAM sized (Settings -> Applications -> Storage use) - only total RAM I have is 180 MB (76MB is used and 105MB is free).. So if I overclock NITdroid will my also RAM increase?

sudarsan_avs, I think you have 180 MB available RAM for apps. Install AnTutu benchmark from Market and open Information tab, there you will see right amount of ram. I have right now 65.2 MB available from 236 MB.

About rebooting. I didn't have any, but I didn't play games. If you have swap partition on microSD, try to enable it in default.prop. Mount NITdroid partition in Maemo and go in /and where open default.prop with leafpad (or nano, or...). Then change value for persist.swap.swappiness= from 0 to 1. Also check if you have written right swap partition under persist.swap.dev=.

I have a question for one with more knowledge. Can I change persist.swap.dev=mmcblk1p3 value in persist.swap.dev=mmcblk0p3 to use swap on eMMC (which uses Maemo)? If I can, would be system any faster, cause I already have NITdroid on eMMC?

You should use kernel-power-bootimg instead of multiboot-kernel-power, because it's deprecated.

Google hasnt released Honeycomb source code yet. Even after there is no point to run it on N900 cuz its optimized for big screens and dual core systems. Stick with 2.3 :) Most Android users still have 2.2 btw :p

The easiest way is to use FileBox (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/filebox/). Go to boot/multiboot directory and delete vmlinuz-2.6.28.NIT.06 kernel. Then go to etc/multiboot.d and delete item file for same kernel (2.6.28.NIT.06). Finally go to lib/modules and delete folder 2.6.28.NIT.06.

If he has installed nitdroid-kernel with package manager, thats pretty messy and I wouldn't recommend it.

First you should search which kernels you have installed:
apt-cache search nitdroid-kernel
And then remove everything else except the one with the largest number like this:
apt-get remove nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06

eagle-eyes,where do you have NITdroid, on microSD or on eMMC? If you are trying apt-get command, you need to mount NITdroid partition before that. Here is example for NITdroid on mmcblk1p2 (2nd partition on microSD):

sudo gainroot
mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and
apt-get remove nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06

After that we need to umount partition and close xterminal
umount /dev/mmcblk1p2

By the way I wish I can install it on the micro sd I have 8gb card but hadn’t found the way to install it there so I did the wiki way
Thx a lot for ur reply  and If u can let me know how to fix that and get it on the micro-sd

just ftr, I got the same error with Vostok

edit: i DID read somewhere that it involves "removing" my SIM pin from Maemo. while it doesnt ask for a pin at boot I do have one set. How do I "remove" this SIM? I tried changing it to a blank PIN but it wont accept it.

New ofonod proposed by e-yes works ok for me, now the long sms that I receive will be divided in 2 or more sms ( before everything that was more than 120ish characters was not displayed at all for me) and also the international sms (with + ) should work too.

Download here :http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/experimental/ and replace the old ofonod file in system/bin (of course your /and must have been mount ....) ; then just a chmod 755 here and you're done.

edit: long sms received are still sometimes as before (not fully displayed) and sometimes (fully received ) divided in more sms (with the length of 64 characters each for me).....no problem with whatsapp in wifi ( my 3G data only working sporadically...).

Google "logcat", there's some good tutorials on how to use it, it's pretty simple. Download Android SDK to get it on your PC, then connect via USB...debug over USB is enabled by default in Nitdroid. From a command prompt, then adb logcat

Download new 'ofonod (http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/experimental/ofonod)'. Transfer it to your phone via USB.

1. Mount Android (for eMMC):cd /
mount /home /and

2. Move new ofonod to overwrite existing:cd /home/user/MyDocs
mv ofonod /and/system/bin/

3. chmod new ofono to be executable:cd /and/system/bin

hey guys what is the default clock speed for this version? is there a limit set? i installed the 0.0.8 version way back and they said that the default speed is up to 500-700mhz only. and for this version i read somewhere it is 1ghz. is it true? cause i'm not really a fan of overclocking..

hi people
i use nitdroid to try out new applications.
but i would like to use it as a full functional alternative os.
the nitdroid versions requiring 1GHZ processors are not fast enough on the n900 and the phone gets warm sometimes. And the battery drains too fast.

My idea would be the following.
Make it possible to uninstall unusable system applications so it use less battery and runs faster.

or a stable android 2.1 port because it doesnt require an 1GHZ processor.

so what do you think?
tell me your ideas.

Just flashed kernel 2 times this night, because i tried to boot to N12. There appeared that " root directory not found in .... " text and i think this is because i didn't change the multiboot -thing- with leafpad again after i updated from N11 to N12 and i think i should have? I'm glad thought because now i can reflash only the kernel for my n900 :D

Hi e-Yes, After testing this new release (for the first time), let me tell you that I'm quite satisfied of the result. I'm still testing it further.

Concerning games, as the N900 screen is not multitouch, I would like to know if there is a way to map certain actions in game to keys on the keyboard, i'm sure that technically it is possible, a bit like preenv games. How can I do it? What files can I tweak to map keys to Keyboard?

Concerning Applications, no major problem are detected.

Thanks again for this hard work and we are waiting for next releases. Keep up the good Job!

My /etc/multiboot.d folder has the following files:

00-Maemo-2.6.28-omap1.item - i.e Maemo
11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p2-2.6.28.NIT.06.item - i.e old kernel
11-NITDroid-mmcblk0p2-2.6.28.NIT.07.item - i.e new kernel

inside those 2 last .items there must be a line like tihs
ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p2

So, don't leafpad at the /etc/multiboot.d/11 (there is no such file as "11")
Just enter those 2 last .item files and change line accordingly.
I learned myself the hard way :-)

@artron

See this post, you need to make sure that the multiboot menu points to the correct location.

Im using "ITEM_DEVICE=${INT_CARD}p2" because i have an MMC (micro SD card) plugged in my N900. if i change the like this "ITEM_DEVICE=mmcblk0p2", so i must unplug my MMC first. is Umay must run with unplug MMC, if i installed on EMMC?

this figured on my N900,
I Have MMC plugin.
i can boot to Maemo with Omap and power-kernel normaly on every boot. then i boot to Nitdroid and work correctly and normal to inside the Nitdroid OS, but i reboot or restart from Nitdroid and return to Multiboot menu and choose the menu from Omap and Power-kernel i alwast get " Guru Meditation : Required Files Not Found ".

so my problem is if i boot to Nitdroid then reboot and return to multiboot menu im alwasy lost my Omap Kernel dan power-kernel. so i must reflash "kernel only" again if i want to boot to maemo.

this my multiboot menu entry, maybe you can help or get some fix my entry:

file 1 (00-maemo-kernel-power46.item), the entry is :

ITEM_NAME="Maemo kernel-power46"
ITEM_KERNEL="2.6.28.10power46"
ITEM_MODULES=ext3

file 2 (01-maemo-2.6.28-omap1.item), the entry is :

ITEM_NAME="Maemo kernel-power46"
ITEM_KERNEL=2.6.28-omap1

file 3 (NITDroid2.6.28.07.item), the entry is :

ITEM_NAME="NITDroid 2.6.28.NIT.07 On mmcblk0p2"
ITEM_KERNEL=2.6.28.NIT.07
ITEM_MODULES=ext3
ITEM_DEVICE=${INT_CARD}p2
ITEM_FSTYPE=ext3
ITEM_FSOPTIONS=rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro

Interesting, a possible form to simulate multitouch with simple touch the screen and touch a key at the same time.

Could be magic if were possible.

Make sure that your multiboot ".item" file for NITDroid is typed like this:

${INT_CARD}p2

instead of

mmcblk0p2

Hi Friend,

I experienced that problem before and got it solved. This is caused by forgetting a step in the NITDroid installation procedure, particularly these commands:

root
apt-get update
apt-get install nitdroid-installer
y
y again if it asks again.

I ran into the problem because I tried the uninstallation steps, and then tried to reinstall NITDroid (I just wanted to verify if the uninstallation procedure works that's why I did it. :D).

So what happened was the exact same thing...I can boot into NITDroid properly, but after booting into NITDroid and wanting to go back to Maemo, I get the "Guru Meditation" problem. To solve it I had to always reflash (kernel only). I tried to think hard and remembered that I missed the steps I quoted above. So I did the steps and it solved the problem. :) If I remember correctly, those steps are required because it also installs the "Multiboot kernel" (so that you can boot between NITDroid and Maemo). Without it, you'll always get that problem you mentioned.

Hope this helps. :)

Workflow is quite simple:

modify
http://gitorious.org/android-n900/platform_frameworks_base/blobs/gingerbread/libs/ui/EventHub.cpp , recompile framework/base, test it, contribute a patch.

Firstly, make sure you have all the correct settings but don't put in the username and password as this will disconnect it.
Check both boxes about Data being enabled and you'll see a 3G icon in your status bar.

Ignore it, reboot your phone and all will be well!

You skipped or mised some commands to properly install NITDroid...please make sure to read carefully...don't move to the next step until you actually complete it (one command at a time). We also have video tutorials in the Wiki Page.

some spammer user send me in my nitdroid youtube videos , that he could play with keyboard in all nitdroid games , and send me the page funamess.com , it is a fake .

only in emulators or specific game with keyboard implemented , you can play with keyboard, not in all games how in webos preenv maemo.

Installed UMay last night - followed instructions carefully and had no problems whatsoever - works a charm. Thanks for all those involved in the project (e-yes et all), having a lot of fun switching between Maemo and Niitdroid. :-)

Hi,
I installed the last N12 update on EmmC phone and all works fine but I can't download applications from the market. it stays on "starting download" forever. I can't download anything from with the browser too and since I have no file manager installed - I can't execute the entire .apk files stored on memory.
Also, it won't recognize my 16GB sandisk card even thougt I double-checked the menu has the "${INT_CARD}p2" line. It thinks the "MyDocs" partition from Maemo is the SD card.

Any help with downloadings please?

Hey,

I've installed N12_UMay on EmmC according to Method 1 http://wiki.maemo.org/Nitdroid_easy_install_on_EMMC#Uninstalling_Nitdroi d

Every thing is working but when i open my browser for the fist time after bootup (Using Gprs) i get the message ``No internet connection available``
But i can see the page loading on the background klik ok and start serving.

Whatsapp works fine using Wifi, but over Gprs i get the message
``No internet connection available`` again.

Is there a way to configure whatsapp to use Gprs?:confused:
