Hi. I have been trying to install several apps using maemo.org. I click the download link and the application manager comes up. I hit the install button , and then it says I cant install it because some "packages are missing".
For example, I am trying to install the Galaga Clone game, and it says I need the package: Libxpm4 .
But it does not tell me where I can find it.
Another example is for the mini web browser. It says that I need the following packages: libxt6, libice6 and libsm6.
Are all of these "packages located at one website somewhere?
Or are there special tools that I need to install first in order to find all of these missing "packages"
Thanks in advance.

So, no one else has this problem ?? What am I missing that everyone else appearently knows ???
Is it that most people here are well versed in using Linux?? , and this missing package thing is a linux issue ??
No, I have had the same problem before and am currently having this problem due to the new update, it won't let me connect via WIFI and xterm won't load because it is missing three packages and I am lost with this OS system as well.
fibroman, you must add the following repository:
http://repository.maemo.org
bora
free non-free
These packages are in this repository.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info. I forgot to state that I am using the Nokia 770. Is it ok to use this repository with the 770 or is it for use only with the Nokia 800 ?
Well, if you use the 770 the right repository is:
http://repository.maemo.org
gregale
free non-free
bora it's only for N800.
Cheers.
Hi, I'm a REAL newbie here and I'd just like to get Galaga to install. But I'm unable to get the packages installed from the above
Once I go to http://repository.maemo.org/extras I can go to:
pool
dists
I figure 'dists' is correct.
Then I take 'gregale' because I have a 770
Now 'free' and 'non-free' both have the 'binary-amel' folder, which is where I assume I go. Within here is:
packages.bz2
packages
packages.gz
release
I can save the .bz2 and .gz files but I can't open them. From the 'gregale' folder I can also go into 'install' and there's unzip and unrar. However, while they both install, only the unzip creates a menu option for 'unzip files' and this doesn't do anything to the .bz2 or .gz package files I grabbed.
If I don't go for the zipped versions but grab 'packages' I just have a large text file that I could save, but what do I save it as? How do I get that 'installed'?
EDIT: I can't save the uncompressed version as apparently there are illegal characters in it. I could save it to Windows XP presumably and then USB connect through but I'd still need to know what sort of file I'm saving it as.
Cheers
Okay, I'm going to need to start a new topic here. I now realise that I have an 'Application Catalogue' setting in my application manager and that that is already pointing to that repository...
