[Announce/WIP] Web Apps For Maemo 5

Finally I have made some good and useful Web Apps for Maemo 5 fremantle [Nokia N900] which is based on Qt Web Runtime [see installation notes below], hope you find them good and interesting, please feel free to suggest me or point out a problem with this app [p.s: some Web Apps are still in Beta versions so may not work properly as expected] .. ;)

I would like to ask...Can anyone help me by creating a .deb file of these and posting them into extra-devel or make a Web Apps Installer for Maemo 5 and push it to repos, so that a large audiance can have these and enjoy.

(p.s. I'm a Beginner at coding so I dont know anything about coding or pushing apps to repos :D. )


Portrait Mode support on CSSU>
(Subject to Forced Rotation ‘ON’ in CSSU Features Configuration App)

App Requirements:
1. Internet Connection Active > 3g/ Wifi
2. Qt Web Run Time > (from Extra-Devel Repositories)

Qt Web Run Time Installation:

[Option 1] : Open Fast Application Manager and install qtwrt from extra-devel

[Option2] : Open xterm then

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install qtwrt

Installation Instructions:
Download the file to Nokia N900 location from the browser or copy it to MyDocs folder and open it from the file manager, the In-built application manager opens with the required instructions.

Q1. No, it cannot be done... as webapps doesnt save the last session for security reasons.. :)
(p.s. if it can be done tell me and help me with a possible code. I'll be happy to implement that. ;))

Q2. WebApps are not meant to have a UI, its just have a html code, a icon to display in launcher, a config file for installation etc. in a zip file renamed to .wgt extention.
And if we can, its highly impossible for that website.. ;)

yep but these are accessible from app menu and (some apps are in iphone format), it would be quiet easy and dont mess the desktop..

can you make a webapp manager app which can easily install, upgrade, and remove them and even provide a catalog for available webapps (and updates every week)... then it would be great.. can you?... btw i can provide you with links of website (not all of them are mobile version but good to have them), names of apps and their icons ... i have almost 20 apps... :)

i know, there was problem with youku v1 app only, use the newer version, i.e. v1.5 (first uninstall old version and install the new version).. i hope it clears your issue now.. :)

Facebook: installation went okay, after opening the app shows me the Facebook login-screen, but when I fill in name&passwd and press login the window vanishes and nothing more ever happens.

Twitter: installation fails - it says "Installation of web application failed - not supported"

i really dunno why it crashed.. maybe your internet connection is not active, try once more.

for twitter installation just reboot and try to install. (mine worked smoothly ;))

Yes, I know that google+ app background is black dont know why even after checking the same link which I embedded into the app on pc which showed white background. Anyway thats why I named it as [beta] version.

As for your second question; thats is a normal behaviour, pressing any link opens MicroB or any other default browser.

p.s. can anyone help me solve this (pressing on link) problem for me ;) thanks...

sorry to say... Thats the problem with every webapp.. i.e. when you click on any link it opens MicroB Browser and the scope of the webapp finishes.. I still dont know how to stop them opening new window...

btw for the loading problem try to logout and then login.. hope it might work..

I really like their webmail Interface, but the mobile version is sort of lacking in possibilities, so I think a webapp for the desktop version would enhance the experience by a great deal.

I think there isn't a separate mobile URL for the login page.
It seems that the user agent is determined only after logging in.
There is a mobile view and a desktop view, but the login page looks the same for both: mail.opera.com/m gets me to the same page as mail.opera.com if viewed in the same browser:
In all the browsers I have on N900, I get taken to mobile view when I log in (likewise, desktop view in all desktop browsers), but the URL is one specific to my account, not a generic one. Would it help if I gave you that?

yep you are right, but any website (web or mobile) shortcut added in app menu which uses MicroB.

Anyway if microB takes you to Mobile version successfully then webapp can also take you there... anyway I will make one on that tomorrow...

yep you are right, but any website (web or mobile) shortcut added in app menu which uses MicroB.

Anyway if microB takes you to Mobile version successfully then webapp can also take you there... anyway I will make one on that tomorrow...

On a second thought, shouldn't the web app rather be made for accessing the desktop version? :confused:
In my understanding, the point of having a web app would be to get the full functionality of everything that desktop site has to offer, but with a convenient interface tailored to my device (N900) - as opposed to the full functionality, but inconvenient handling of the desktop site, and the easy handling, but restricted functionality of a mobile version (which I can already access fine in MicroB/Opera/Fennec/Helium, and looks good too - just poor in features).
For instance, mobile versions of both Facebook and GMail totally suck, they're basically just lists of menus, and lots of functionality not available - and that's where the apps come in, right? :)

that would be awesome, I'd love to try and make my own webapp!
I'm a complete newbie at this though, so I'm still trying to get
a grip on what exactly - which tools, what "materials" - you would need
to get started. What do you think about my above question?
Also, does the webpage need to provide an API in order for
a webapp to work ?
