I'd like to buy the N9, but can't use a phone without a keyboard, I mean I need Emacs...

So, I'd like to buy the N950 at some point in time...

Not sure what the NDA conditions were, under which the developers received their N950s, but is it a realistic expectation, that some time after the N9 gets released, some of the N950s will hit ebay and will be available for sale?

I'd really like to get it that way... Or am I hoping in vain?

Replace Elop and you can get one. You can even mass produce them.

Well, I agree on the topic of Elop being a disaster as a CEO...

What about buying a N950 anytime in the future, though?

No, the contract between Nokia and the receivers of a N950 doesn't allow to sell or even loose the device.
And honestly: nobody would sell the N950.

Ugh, what terrible news... I was afraid of this. God damn Nokia, I'd think if they produced 90k N950s they could sell them openly, no?
And honestly: nobody would sell the N950.
I know, prob'ly true, I wouldn't sell it, if I had it...

But I'm at my N900's limit of performance, need a faster processor, bigger screen...

So what's left to hope for? Samsung to adopt Meego? Buy an Android phone with a keyboard, root it, and run Debian? Bluetooth keyboard with the N9?

Ugh, all ugly solutions, except for the Samsung one, which however seems very unlikely now...

there will be a few in the hands gotten by illegitimate means, but I doubt you will be one.

500 euro fine according to the NDA.

500 euro fine according to the NDA.

So that means you could actually sell the device for like €600 on ebay :p

Though handling stolen goods also leads to a fine, and any N950 on eBay should raise a red flag with someone at Nokia.

So what if you just tell them that you just lost the phone, give them the €500 and sell it at ebay :P
Do you really think that the guys at nokia are 24/7 checking out ebay?

Though, this is too good to be true. Doubt someone will do this :(

And what if you loose it?

Well, nobody wants a loose N950. It's all about the tight models.
But seriously, the people who got them are probably going to cherish them (they didn't give them to just anyone) and the troubles and headaches they'd get with Nokia probably wouldn't be worth 100 euros.

Why do you think someone who appreciate the device (which is the case for everyone who got it) would do something illegal to sell a priceless device effectively for about 100€? (according to your calculation: 500€ fee to Nokia, 600€ income = 100€ profit)

well theres better spec'ed phones now on the market... they wouldnt be worth that much and less as it gets older

It was just an example...

I'm pretty sure that someone will buy the phone even fror €800 - €1000.
Now lets recalculate it:
€500 fee to Nokia, €1000 income = €500 profit! yaay!

:D

The way eBay works, you don't have to. If you want to buy a Nokia N950, you can make and save a good search for it (limit it so you don't get battery chargers, cables etc) for the N950, and eBay will mail you when there's one available.

The best way for people on here to get one is put themselves on the "I'm going to write a cool app" waiting list with qgil.
I, for one, plan on returning my N950 once I've managed to run the gauntlet of actually sourcing an N9 at a decent price in the UK.
Partly because I want other people to have a chance to develop on one, and partly because I don't like having something which isn't technically mine and the niggling worry of theft/breakage.
