View Full Version : MMC patched kernel when booting from MMC

Dear all,

I have a dual boot setup, normally booting from MMC on a new n770.

I flashed the ROM when I got the machine a couple of weeks ago to the latest from nokia.

I have done some reading on the fast MMC access patches, but can't see how I'd update the boot so that it would boot that version without losing a whole load of stuff now that I'm booting already from MMC.

Where is the kernel that is booted from when it boots from MMC? Does it boot from flash and then just do the pivot-root (or equivalent)?

I guess the question is then, can I reflash with the fast MMC kernel and still retain everything else already altered, without change, that I have setup on the MMC boot? (I don't mean data, I mean config - or does other stuff get changed too?)

Kind regards

Derek Jones.

I was able to add the "zImage-su-18-200639-2gb-mmcplus52Mhz" kernel to my externally booting 770. Right on fanoush's page there is a kernel flasher ("Kernel flasher for N770 and N800") that allows you to flash from within the OS, it worked perfectly for me from my MMC card.

Thanks Het, I'll look again. I didn't realize that worked from within the OS.

Kind regards,
