$13 is kind of steep. Seriously, everyone, do yourself a favor and goto EBgames. The Hori PSP screen protectors are the best on the market and go for $5. All you've got to do is cut about 2 cm off the end and your set.

What is funny is that site is selling Gameboy micro screen protectors. One of the nice features of the micro is that the faceplate doubles as a protector. Once it gets too scratched up simply toss it and get a new one. Those are $5 too.

Yes it is expensive, but I prefèr all the same Brando, it is a specialist in the accessories for PDA, I already bought (there is 3 áns) one protect screen from this type for my TH55 and I am very safisfait.
it is very easy to put, not reflections (significant when one is outside) I prefère to buy in somebody whom I know, not surprise (I already bought several accessories at his place) Significant: not need to cut it, it is already with dimensions ;)

I bought my brando for only $10 - I think they considered it a cell phone screen protector. It's still expensive, but I have to agree with direst here; brando makes a good screen protector.

Take a picture of your 770 with and without the Brando on. Then, post both of them in this thread so we can compare them.

I bought some writeright once and cut out and put it on my nokia 6650. It fit perfectly and provide great protection....but the visibility was lousy. Frankly, I wouldn't buy it again. Now for $10 for 1 screen protector, that is kind of steep and how do we know it's as good as they say. I'd have to see it to beleive it. How would you even remove a screen protector....does it come out cleanly without bending. If I put this thing in wrong am I out 10 bucks cause I'd have to get a new one...I'd say it should come in a pack of three for that much....then I might try it.

The PSP doesn't have a touchscreen, does it? I know that using a screen protector that was not designed for a touchscreen will render it unusable very quickly.

OTOH, the screen protector I'm using for my P910i was over USD 10 for one piece and it's still pretty much scarless -- after six months of heavy use (and "heavy" includes using it on a roof while fixing a hole!)

The review on gadgeteer does seem it's worth it...but he's using on a monochrome palm. How well does it work on nokia's really fine resolution? I just want to protect the screen but most of all...readable...my eyes aren't that great. direst would you mind posting a before and after photo of some text displayed on the screen?

I would like to see it. You should be able to open up the Jpegs in some sort of digital picture software and save them with higher compression.

Yes, but what will you do with a heavy compressed jpeg... if you' re interested in seeing the effect of the screen protector? You should want a decent image.

direst could use imageshack or other similar image hosting site.

That said, Brando Ultra Clear are considered the best screen protectors out there. Almost completely transparent, perhaps a bit of a PITA to install properly, but very durable.

What about posting them in one of the on-line picture developing places (i.e. shutterfly, imagestation, etc...) and pasting the links here?

The PSP doesn't have a touchscreen, does it? I know that using a screen protector that was not designed for a touchscreen will render it unusable very quickly.(snip)

A protector for a LCD screen is pretty much universal as long as it fits. I've tried a myriad of different materials ranging from the sticky clear sheets used to laminate paper to scotch tape to the PSP protector sheets. I've never damaged a screen sticking weird stuff to it but I've had loads of scratches from grit on a unprotected screen.

The only thing you have to watch out for it is to (as others have noted) avoid shoving the protector underneath the edges of the screen, thus applying constant pressure and rendering the digitizer unusable. Scary the first time you do it and wonder if you've ruined something, but merely an annoyance the next time. The Pelican PSP protector I used is wonderful because it's rigid enough to pull up and reposition easily without destroying it or introducing bubbles.

The worst material I've ever tried is the paper laminating sheet; it will leave a terrible gummy residue that only comes off using isopropyl (rubbing) alchohol.

In my humble opinion, the Pelican PSP Screen Protectors are great....Inexpensive, Crystal clear, Semi Anti Glare and easy to apply.....my Wife and I have been using them for over a month now on our 770's with NO wear.
I also love the fact that when applied correctly....you can't tell your using one....it looks like the Factory Screen.

I'll second that opinion about the Pelican. I can't even tell it is on the screen. I had one bubble under the film after installation, and I just held it up to a desk lamp for a little while (15s) and the bubble went away with a little squeezing.

I bought the hori psp screen protectors from ebgames for $5/each. All you need to do is cut about 1/2 cm from the side and you're golden. They are great. I can barely tell that it has a screen protector when the screen is off, can't tell when it is on. Does not affect the sensitivity of the touch screen at all. Great screen protectors.

My question is simple. When the broswer boots up. It's in its default font size, quite small and I can just make out without anything on the screen. When you guys put the screen protector on. Can you still read that?

At first I thought I wasn't going to pay $13 for a screen, but it's beginning to look more convincing now.

I got a set of two from navprotector (http://www.navprotector.com/) yesterday. I got 'em via their eBay auction (http://cgi.ebay.ca/2-Screen-Protector-Nokia-9300-6630-8800-770-6620-6820_W0QQitemZ5841174134QQcategoryZ50332QQcmdZView Item). The protectors are of the thin variety and I was expecting a 1/2 hour battle to get it on "just right". However, it went on smoothly on first pass with no bubbles, no dust and perfect alignment! (credit the product and a bit of luck on my part). Note: Dust & smudges seen in the pics settled outside the protector and look bad as these are macro pics.

It's a good fit, but not a perfect fit. The width is perfect with about 1/2mm exposed on each side (need this to remove the product). However, there's about 3/4mm on each side height-wise. This is a tad bit too much, but not a big deal (I expect some dust to collect along the edges, but it can be easily wiped off as far I know from using screen protectors for a # of years).

One more thing: The screen looks less grainier after I applied the screen protector! I'm not sure if I'm imagining things, so I shall test this out under different lighting conditions and report back later.

The price is right: USD $11.50 including shipping within the USA for a set of two. I'm now thinking of ordering some for my i-Mate SP5 and my iPAQs as well (although it's left to seen how the "anti glare" effect works when using the products in daylight --> not important on the 770 as I'll be using it strictly indoors unless someone ports a GPS app for the product).

Cheers, Djinn.

Yes. Well, with my reading glasses (which I need even for paper now!).

I'm using a Brando ultra clear screen protector right now. I'm not sure if it makes the tiny fonts harder to read.....it was a ***** to put on though, that's for sure....

Does the Brando use adhesive like WriteRights? Does it scratch easily like WRs do?

joolsca
2006-01-12, 04:55
It does not scratch at all. It's removable and washable, although it obviously adheres to the screen. I have never seen or used a Writeright.
I have used Brando protectors for many different phones....great products...as are Boxwave and Martin Fields.

How does it adhere? Is there glue? I recall a protector someone was going to review for the Zaurus. It clung without any glue and looked to be damned good and unscratchable. I don't know who put it out, though. Or if the review was ever published.

Quick followup to my earlier post regarding the navprotectors: The screen can be read in daylight as well. Over the years I've used all varieties of major brand screen protectors (Boxwave, Brando, Martin Fields, Javo, EXIM, Fellowes WriteRight, PPCTechs WriteSHIELD, NuShield etc). I can safely say that the Navprotector holds its' own against these big boys. When it comes to ease of installing, it's second only to the Boxwave Cleartouch antiglare version (not the hard to install Crystal version). The screen looks as if there's no protector on it. Cheers, Sabesh.

Note: Javo and Boxwave are one and the same screen protector. Hence, Javoscreen antiglare = Boxwave Cleartouch antiglare

This sounds very similar to the Zaurus screen protector I once saw:

OK Djinn, your review convinced me. That and the lack of adhesive, my hair stood on end when I read Mike Cane post about the adhesive pulling away part of the 770's screen.

I went to the eBay auction and got a navprotector. I'll let you know how they worked.

Of course, back in the dark ages, I protected my first Handspring Visor by going to the local fabric store, purchasing a bit of thin transparent vinyl, and carefully cutting a piece to screen size.
