Re: Goodbye Meego, goodbye Nokia

I'm done. I bought a Google Nexus S at Best Buy. Popped the SIM out of the N900 and into the Nexus and now I am on the Android train. I have been assimilated.

I will miss lots of stuff about my...

Re: N9 scrapped according to Eldar and others.

I feel like this thread is three different discussions:

1. What should Nokia do to sell more/stay on top/get back on top/stay alive?

2. What will Elop do, regardless of whether it fits with my...

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego?

We invented the atomic bomb. Now stop saying things that make us angry. :D

Re: Android vs Maemo - social network integration

That integration is DBus and Telepathy at work. Telepathy provides a uniform system for creating communication "tubes" and the IM clients are built on top of that. DBus allows programs to send...

Re: MeeGo is "the Biggest Joke In the Tech Industry Right Now"

I'm not really sure what counts as "religious" or "puffering up" (though I'm quite sure that several religions would have problems with me puffering anyone up) in what I said. If your point is that...

Re: MeeGo is "the Biggest Joke In the Tech Industry Right Now"

What a freaking dufus. I don't know what problem Nokia has that he thinks using WP7 or Android will solve. Nobody disputes that Nokia has plenty of work to do to win back market share in the USA. ...

Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates

I have overcome my fear and I am installing now. This is great news (no matter how old the news was before I heard it)! I am especially happy to see the modest upgrade--I have been having issues...

Re: Xterminal Background

This is the problem with all of us N900 owners. Other phones don't even have a command line with root access. We do, and we complain that it doesn't have a transparent background! :D

Seriously,...

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego?

I will give T-Mobile some props here for their pricing model. The no-contract/no-phone monthly price is cheaper than the contract/subsidized-phone price. I think it was around $10 per month...

Re: Nokia CEO Elop lays groundwork for new strategy to be announced next month, a move away from meego?

So Nokia sold over 28 million smartphones last quarter (http://www.allaboutmeego.com/news/item/12525_Nokia_Q4_2010_results-profits_.php), including over 5 million Symbian^3 devices, its 7th...

Re: N900 no longer made by nokia

The N900 has to be manufactured by humans. From what I understand by listening to apple aficianados, Steve Jobs climbs Mount Sinai and returns 40 days later bearing a box full of new iPods and a...

Re: Meego vs Android apps (C or Java?)

Quite the contrary. Live homescreen widgets are already available on Maemo and Symbian, and will doubtless be available on meego platforms. On the N900 I have one glance at live widgets for music...

Re: Meego vs Android apps (C or Java?)

As mobile processors get better (and we might already be at the point where they are good enough), devices are going to be more like computers and less like iPhones. Multitasking and OS...

Re: do we have something like this???

To answer the OP's question: No. But the prevalence of (and celebration of) ridiculous, useless apps like this is one of the primary reasons I bought an N900 instead of an iPhone.

Whenever you...

Re: What would happen if the battery runs out?

I have let mine run down many times. It just shuts off. You plug it in, it charges, and it is fine.

Re: CONGRATULATIONS- you made the right choice buying the N900 - read why

I have to give some props to Groucho here. I have had my N900 for over a year now and, though I could make a list of gripes a mile long, I still think it is great and I wouldn't trade it in for...

If you are a complete newbie, I would recommend starting with just python. Get some "hello world" type stuff under your belt and then you can try to horn in qt (I recommend pyside over pyqt, though...

Re: [Announce] Mokomaze - great opensource Labirynth clone ported to N900

I popped in a new 4gb sd card, installed the nitdroid-installer, and rain it. I had to do the partitioning steps manually, but other than that I have to say that installing a ported secondary...

Re: Facebook Status truncating last word of update in MicroB

You can always download effing and set your status from a native N900 app. It is currently in the development repository.

I can rewrite it to drop the last letter as well, if that makes it more...
