Im just still wondering sometimes, where people get all informations before they buy a phone or any equipment.
Where is it mentioned that the NOKIA N900 can send or receive MMS? Never and nowwhere....

As already mentioned, sounds to me like a ISP problem as well.
Try different Access point for a check.
You can not install applications using PC due different Filesystems.
Dunno when using Linux,...

If this happens, then flash also eMMC that solves the problem. Just make sure that you safe the stuff on you mass memory.
