Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet

Research done in the UK showed the majority of adult smartphone users had never installed an app. Beyond that there's many users who only care about a few key apps (SatNav, WhatsApp, FaceBook,..). I...

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet

I have already said several times.

Open source the damn thing. I think it's too late to save Jolla the company, but a chance exists for save Sailfish OS as a community run project.

While he was discussing on topic about the problems and his opinion — all you can do is to answer "you are...", "you...".
Next thing would be probably pointing fingers and throwing stones, right?

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet

Just a few hours to december...the month where restructuring, new round of investments, lions share of tablet shipments shall take place. What a glorious month!

Could we get some good news already...

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet

You (and others) should really try using some different products. You have absolutely no idea just how far behind in features, functionality and performance Sailfish is, and the gap grows ever...

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet

You need to understand that there are not much people who like SailfishOS compared to the mobile market and the % of people using it :)

As well you need to understand that a lot of those who does...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

Nooo, we are crazy, but this has never been an option. :) Actually, the first prototypes were using Nux (the library used in Unity7), so indeed we have been wasting some time.

Absolutely. :)

Re: Discussion over the Design, Features, and Rollout of Jolla's new Tablet, Assuming that it isn't a Figment of our Collective Imagination

I really don't think any amount of money would have made a difference, with who was in charge. It just would have increased the scale of the failure. It's not like they didn't have opportunities...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

Well, you wrote it's fiction, so that can certainly be. :)
But, for a less fictional history, I can tell you that while Ubuntu benefited immensely from your work, we started working on a tablet and...

Re: WTS Jolla + be the first one OH + cameleon OH (with wireless charging) + pink OH + non-working HWKBOH (and soon + SolarOH)

Android is only Linux-based, it doesn't even have a normal glibc. You can't do normal C++ apps there (no std::string, for example) In Sailfish at least you have the normal core, you can theoretically...

Re: Discussing JollaOy strategy

That is such a fair message gerbick that I feel very good about respecting it as is, no need to dissect an answer. We have some differences of opinion of course, but probably not nearly as much as...

Re: Discussing JollaOy strategy

The reason I ask, it wasn't because of any vindictive endeavors; I'm genuinely curious and haven't only contributed to FOSS and largely my work has been either private sector or US Gov't work. Only...

Re: Discussing JollaOy strategy

Isn't most discussion, though?

I think that is absolutely fair that there are different views. I recommend added transparency to Jolla, others recommend secrecy.

Re: Discussing JollaOy strategy

Well, we are all having a conversation (I hope). We have our views, they are not absolute truths and large portions of them are opinions. Neither of us, of course, can know what some strategy we...

Re: Discussing JollaOy strategy

OK, good that we agree there can be more transparent companies than Jolla has been, because there certainly are many such examples in the world of SMBs. Transparency isn't easy, it isn't an instant...

The problem with examples is that some of them a very specific, when taken to the size of Jolla companies. Large stories like Toyota are very simple to communicate, it is much harder to translate...

Again, absolutely nothing wrong with the issues Jolla faced. Easy to understand them all.

Except the part where they chose to stay pretty much silent throughout, not offering any real information....

Companies do it all the time, though, provide information on what will be swapped out in such an event. And in the case of the SIM holder, many people had their tricks to keep it running, knowing...

I don't think Jolla people are evil or arrogant, those are your words, not mine.

But stezz said: "we will tell you what it is when we know what it is". Then in March he said "we have been able to...

Re: Discussing JollaOy strategy

No? Here stezz says they will tell when they know - and then in the last update say they have been able to isolate the root cause, but don't tell what it is, even when asked in the further comments?...
