If you're okay with the global firmware then you might as well continue with it, especially as Nokia seem reluctant to actually make the UK firmware images available...

No, that's the general European one - the UK one is RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11.203.2_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin (the 51-1 firmware still hadn't been uploaded at the end of last week).

Yes you do. 44.1 prepares the device (frees up some space in rootfs) to receive the bigger 51.1!
