Have you tried different audio files? Perhaps you are playing a stereo file with bad right signal. Try other files and see if you get better sound.

Not a n810, but I had a similar issue (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23001). Culprit turned out to be a slime-logged sd card...
