Re: Renaming "Maemo 6" to MeeGo / Harmattan

Of course, as Maemo and Moblin are both Linux based they'll already share the vast majority of their architecture already, so merging Maemo and Moblin to produce MeeGo is a case of choosing which...

Re: Renaming "Maemo 6" to MeeGo / Harmattan

My biggest gripe branding-wise (apart from the name choice itself :) ) is that Maemo 6 and MeeGo are not interchangeable. MeeGo (from what we've been hinted) is a much broader thing, more of a family...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

IMHO: You should get at least 2 years out of active development and support for your device.

What this means is: I don't necessarily thing MeeGo or Harmattan are required to be ported to the...

Re: Thanks Qgil!

Ok, allow me to ask this.

If you have a product that's out now, there's a questionable upgrade path, a recent announcement makes that upgrade path already more questionable... why not answer the...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

Exactly, and all things equal, why change (rhetorical question, not directed at Rob1n) ? Moblin was also DEB until a little over a year ago, I don't believe Moblin devs forgot how to do DEBs. So they...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

I personally prefer the RPM structure, tho nothing wrong with the DEB either. I also prefer yum over apt-get. Both, as a user, and as a developer. And it probably has more to do with the things I'm...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

A lot of the versioning conflict and problems that rpm used to have aren't as bad anymore, and honestly, if someone ports the Smart Package Manager over then its all moot. It tends to b e smarter...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

By "Linux" I assume you mean libc, GNU utilities and toolchain, X11, QT/GTK, KDE/Gnome, udev, dcop/dbus, etc. Do you have any idea how much integration work goes into transforming a bunch of source...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

Again you're ignoring some very important things in ordrer to simplify. Debian systems share a lot in common with regard to *structure* of the OS to every other GNU/Linux out there *except* rpm...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

Absolutely untrue.

Maemo is a Debian derivative in the same way Ubuntu is. They are not bound by Debian policy, no.. but it is counterproductive and expensive to stray far from mainline.

Of...

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

Switching to RPM also means switching to a different system as the base system. E.g. instead of Debian use Fedora. It is practically impossible to have a Debian system that only accepts RPMs.

Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo?

UPDATE: according to MeeGo developers MeeGo is going to be a new independent distribution
which uses the RPM format for packages but which is incompatible to Fedora or OpenSUSE,
i.e. there is no...

Ovi store is currently not supported in Maemo, but this is besides the point of this thread anyway. Here we are discussing the official points of contact with Nokia in the *.maemo.org domain.

About talk.maemo.org signatures, I do mention Nokia in mine and I expect the same from Peter and DanielWilms since we are paid (among other things) to be active here.

If I have something to say...
