Re: [Testers needed] BackupMenu V2 - OS backup & restore

Ok, my restore did work in the end, but it never gives me any indication of when it's done, so I just have to guess and hope for the best then cancel out.

This happens with both optfs and rootfs.

Summarise:

Backing up:
Both optfs and rootfs, individually or together:
No error messages, however just hangs after a certain size but creates a working tar file.

Restoring:
Both optfs and rootfs, individually or together:
No error messages, no indication of progress (Size: N/A). However does seem to restore, just have to leave it for long enough then cancel out.

RootFS took 400+ seconds to back up, 100-200 to restore.

Edit: this happens on 2 N900s on PR1.3, one has very few apps installed and is not too different from stock, other has lots and lots of apps installed including custom scripts etc.

...I didn't make any sort of announcement. I shouldn't have posted the link on the front page yet.
Yes, it was broken.

-now-, with 0.50-3, it should work right. But only if you download it -after- the time of this post.

Ok, now you guys can try the latest version: 0.50-3
You can get it at:
http://robbiethe1st.afraid.org/Backu...0.50-3_all.deb
http://robbiethe1st.afraid.org/Backu..._amd64.changes for the changelog
Let me know how this goes - I think I improved the tar loop setup.

Yes, it was broken.

I wasn't accusing you/blaming you for anything man, just trying to help you out by explaining what my problems were.

Really appreciate all the work you're doing on this, makes it so much easier and simpler to switch N900s :)

It's just that I have an indirect link for less than an hour, and someone manages to download it.

Re: [Testers needed] BackupMenu V2 - OS backup & restore

Backed up to eMMC and SD using 50-3

eMMC:
rootfs filesize: 321MB
optfs filesize: 988MB

SD:
rootfs filesize: 321MB
optfs filesize: 227MB

Rootfs filesize is consistent but seems large, can I trust it?

SD:
2nd opffs try filesize 222MB

I'm now typing from my girlfriend's n900 which i've just restored to my os :D

The slightly dodgy backup created with 48 restored perfectly.

Thanks Robbie, where's the donate button?

The size is OK, because rootfs might be 256M, but it's compressed because of UBI, so it's not linear, could go either way. Also, a tarball also has stuff not normally reported, like names and possibly metadata. Also, it's a tar not a tar.gz, so it's almost guaranteed to be larger.

Optfs looks bad. I'm assuming it's 900M, not 200. I'd rerun backup, it's possible something went wrong. You did check the obvious avenues, like free space on SD, stuff like that?
